I had 3 sets of irons in the garage and we were moving to another house and my wife decided I had too many golf clubs (I disagree, can never have too many) so since I wasn't going to win this argue.....discussion I eBayed them.

OK, well this is weird.  I started out this spring at a 9.2 HI and played lousy most of the year, worked my way up to 12 by mid-July.  However, the last few weeks have been awesome, and I have gotten back down to 8.8.  Over the last week or so, I had a hole-in-one, chipped in twice for birdies and shot my course personal best at 73.
 
Today, my wife decided she wanted to play nine after work.  She even left work early so we could get done before dark.  It was 75* but the wind was blowing 15-25mph (tomorrow it's supposed to blow 30-40mph).  I started off with pars on the first 4 holes, then lipped out a par putt on the 570 yard #5 hole playing into the wind.  I got it back on #6 with a birdie, then bogeyed the 380 yard #7 back into the wind.  I made an unlikely par on the 210 yard par 3 #8 also playing into the wind.  Then on the dogleg par 5 #9, downwind off the tee, but not after the dogleg, I hit my tee shot into the left rough at the dogleg; downhill/sidehill lie I hit a nice 4H down the middle to 128 from the pin.  PW two-hopped into the hole for Eagle.  My wife called me an a$$hole (term of endearment).  Bottom line is I shot -1 for the front nine.  
 
That's my all time best front nine score by 2 shots.  My game feels pretty solid right now, but I'm headed to Phoenix on Sunday... golf school so I can learn how to play this silly game.

The last couple of weeks I was feeling pretty discouraged, but feel much better after a decent range session tonight. Really focused on keeping my right arm connected to my body and some flex in my right knee. It's amazing how many things that cleaned up in my swing. I still come over the top just a little bit, but it sure looks better on camera than it did before. Irons went really well, driver still needs work but was flying better overall. It felt like there is actually a chance I might get better at this game for the first time in a couple weeks.

A guy I know went to play a round of golf with our friend and left his brain at home. On the first tee he took several practice swing while waiting for his turn. Swing waist height too close to the ball washer stand hit it an broke the shaft sending it flying and stabbed my other friend in the thigh the round was over they were all went to the ER. It was 15-16 years ago that guy still walks with a limp. Mother forking shirtball!

I hit it today - incredible. Was left to right down wind aiming at a flag that I shot at 170. No way I'm getting my 6 Iron there so I would have had to grip down, take something off the 5 hybrid and hope for the best. No chance over a Hazzard.

My handicap has risen from 1.2 to 5.8 over the past 8 years. Some of that is age - 52 to 60 (61 tomorrow) but not all of it. I think I've got it now though.
 
I don't play a lot - just a hair over once a week between 60 and 70 rounds a season (remember I can play 12 months). With the move to the private club my clubs are stored so I only practice when I go there. It's about 15 minutes from my house but half an hour or more from work. I used to keep my wedge, putter and shag bag in the car. So I've started doing that. I'm going two or three times a week to the muni that's around the corner from work and spending 20 to 30 minutes chipping, pitching and putting.
 
My short game was sick when I played on Sunday and I hit the ball very well for someone who hadn't played in a week. I've chipped, pitched and putted twice this week and hit the ball better on the range this evening than I have in several years.
 
I had 25 shots from 47 yards that brought a smile to my face. Off tight wet turf, over a trap, I didn't miss the green once, didn't hit a single one thin, holed one, hit two inside two feet and hit as many long as short, right as left.
 
I also crushed my 4 wood.
 
I'm feeling very good about golf right now.

My father, 30 years ago, said he'd tie a piece of string to my nose and attach a jag hook to the other end and place it...well, you know where. I don't think that would have worked either.

Back from Hilton Head Island and was gaming my Bellum-Winmore putter so I shot a 40/40:80......no birdies BUT I did score an Eagle with a 60 yard Hole out on #10, using my Ben Hogan Ft Worth 57* wedge.
 
With the 80, I scored first place and some cash $72 plus $30 for the eagle. Drives and irons were smoking today.

... Been a frustrating week or so with very high heat in the mid 90's which really makes the ball fly and always feels good on my back, but superintendents afraid they might lose greens and fairways have severely over watered courses. Greens are slow and shaggy and fairways have turned into wet, light rough.
 
... Finally played a course today with real greens again rolling true and while not exactly fast they certainly were not slow. Had 6 makable birdie putts and converted 4 of them. Add 2 bogies and a nice 70 after shooting over par my last several rounds, and on one of them losing a ball in the middle of the fairway that just got sucked under ground in the very wet conditions. My son almost shot in the 80's for the first time carding a 90. But he did hit a monster 345 yd drive on #16. The whole way home from the course he was recounting shots he should not have missed including two topped tee shots, two short putts and 1 chunked chip. He is finally a real golfer!   

"...clubs, bags, shoes, gloves, shirt, pants. Hey, orange balls! I'll have a box of those and give me a box of those naked-lady tees, gimme two of those, gimme six of those..."   

Didn't buy them, more traded for my 716 AP1 irons, but three Vokey wedges plus an odyssey Xmetal small mallet. Buddy said the wedges were pretty new over text. When he showed up, they still had the friggin plastic on them!
 
Hopefully I'm able to get in a round with a few of them before the season ends

I had some swing thoughts to work on and went to hit a bucket on the range. It started out really well, irons felt under control and I even started to play with hitting different trajectories with the shorter irons. Move on to the driver and hit the 5 best drives I've ever hit in my life, solid center face contact and a smooth feeling swing. And then the wheels fell off. Tried to hit a few more with the driver to figure out what I changed, didn't work. Went back to irons and it took probably ten swings to get a ball to fly well. Tried hitting some chip shots and that went ok. But not great. Went back to driver and got a few decent shots but nothing that felt like the first few. Course was empty so decided to play 9. Focused on picking a target off the tee and trying to swing smooth. Had some good shots but overall scored really high. I'll blame the high score on everything being cut down for reseeding and hang on to the good shots. Haha

My blood pressure is already rising.

I agree. If I lived in Arizona or someplace I could golf all year I wouldn't even care about Football.

I know that lots of people love college football. To me it represents everything that is wrong with the world. I don't know why I can't stand the way athletes are being exploited for the NCAA to make billions here and enjoy college hoops so much but there is no rationale for emotion.
 
So I'm glad that it makes others happy - rest assured I will be playing golf, mowing the lawn or something else during the season.
