Last night Smithsonian Channel had “Normandy, 85 Days of Hell”, unbelievable video I had never seen before.
Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpyYeah, I watched that too and was amazed myself to see footage I've never seen before either...and I've watched just about everything WWII related it seems. It was very well done IMHO.

@PING Apologist #9 your reasoning was sound. Most “titanium” balls tend to be of the rock variety. When Nike debuted the One ball in the mid 2000’s it came out as One Black and One Gold, then One Platinum. Ironically, the gold and platinum were the high spin balls much like the RZN Platinum of recent year. They seem to be on the rare (as chicken lips) side now because they weren’t huge sellers and they are a decade plus old.
Verrrrrrry interesting stuff indeed...Thanks for the info! I pulled it (carefully) out of the ammo can and will be armed with the remaining 11 bombs as I venture out today to play a little golf hooky. 911 is on speed-dial...
Also, if this particular category came up as a set of Jeopardy! questions, no doubt you'd easily run the board..! You really got yer geek on with this one...

Did a little putting action in the living-room last night. I found that if I lock my left elbow (left-hand-down grip), I felt more "pendulum-like" and more in control. I'll try that out some more this evening when I go to the range and also hit the practice green.
I was able to indeed get out for some practice tonight and did a "normal" range session before hoofing it over to the practice green. I indeed did the "left-arm-lock" method and WOW! Just WOW! I instantly had better feedback and also felt I had better control. Most of my session here revolved around lag putts and the difference was amazing and very promising. Now to be clear, my putter grip is only 34" long so I'm not talking about doing an actual "arm-lock" grip with an extended shaft which is anchored against my left forearm. I'm simply trying to describe locking my left elbow in an attempt to help me minimize any wrist break or "floppy" putt stroke. I made no putts outright, but my feel during the session left me with some hope since many more putts seemed to track better on my intended line and finish nearer the 3' circle around the hole more often than I've ever experienced before.
Perhaps I need to try a true arm-lock putter one of these days. Until then, we'll see if this newly found "key" to my game can help lower my scores a bit. Only time will tell...
Now for my range session, please read up here...:

RIP Nike golf, that Platinum was a great ball but it’s a urethane tour ball, so no rock. Where in the world did you find a Nike One?
Crap! Fine, it's out of the mix then.
I figured (incorrectly it seems) that anything labeled with one of the harder substances known to man that exists on Earth (i.e: Titanium) would be a sure bet to qualify...!
A "tour" ball 'eh? Dammit!
As to where I found it..? Lord only knows, though if I had to take a guess, I'd say I may have "liberated" if from Jack's course out in Bend called Pronghorn when I played there for my 50'th b-day last August. Is this model rare..?

Placed my USS Arizona flag back out tonight in preparation for tomorrow's remembrance...
June 6'th, 1944...75-years ago (yes, seventy-five frickin' years ago!!!) we embarked on what the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (SACEUR) at that time (Dwight David Eisenhower) called the "Greatest Crusade" to open up the "Second Front" and take the war directly to those f-ing Nazi bastards. Starting in Normandy, on through France and finally into the German heartland, this particular decisive and historical battle would ultimately end the brutal tyranny, slavery and genocide Europe and Russia endured during this dark time of rule by Hitler.
The heroes who landed in France 75 years ago in order to do all these things shall not be forgotten...EVER. ALL of them... American, British, Canadian, Australian...I don't care...ALL heroes, and those who died that day and the days following (my Great Uncle included BTW...) deserve a day of recognition for their ultimate sacrifice...for all of us!!!
Make no mistake...without them and what they accomplished that day, our freedoms we enjoy each and every day would simply not exist.
I stand and salute them all.
Join me.

That ammo can is a great touch. Especially with the .22s creeping in the bottom. Those rocks are gonna be hawt as Ole Gray would say.
That Nike Platinum might be a little too hawt though. Is it a One Platinum?
Why yes. Yes it is... I'll make sure that my phone has 911 on speed dial...

On the range again earlier tonight. Once I got to driver, this happened...
These 250-260+ shots just keep happening! All with range rocks too! This driver is amazing and continues to blow my freaking mind.... Of my 10 best shots tonight (none lower than 220), I averaged 244..!
Now while many will ask, and it is a fair question to be honest, but: "No". My scores have not dropped with this particular weapon at my disposal. Not yet anyway... What it's done is lead me to more of a sense of confidence that hitting driver is not instant death..! AAAND...it will more often than not give a better chance at an approach shot that is more manageable and shorter than before. I simply(?) have to execute those approach shots better and give myself a chance on the greens. Thus the life of a high "capper'...! At very minimum, I have zero excuses for distance with driver any more. Accuracy is coming along and now my focus is on putting.
("Battle" scars...some good... a few, not so good)
I implore you that if you are searching for a new driver, to PLEASE do yourself a favor and try the PING G410 series.. You may find a new best friend...I know I have...

Quick check in. I've played two times since my last post, but my Game Golf (mercifully) died just before the wheels totally fell off my last round. My overall handicap has continued to be steady: from 15.6 at the start of the season to 15.7 now. That said, I still think there's value in comparing my year so far through the same point last year.
It remains the case that in every category, I'm ahead of where I was through 10 rounds last season. The putting is obviously the biggest difference, and I think that's very sustainable. I'm actually happier with the improvement off the tee. Further data off the tee, beginning with the bad news: the left miss (that I thought the Rogue SZ would mitigate) is back with a vengeance:
The "off the tee" distance in GG is every tee shot, not just driver. I'm still not hitting my driver (on average) far enough; it's just at 200 yards. But it's been coming around a bit lately: here's the first shot of my last round:
The tee shot on the first hole is slightly downhill, but there wasn't anything else (strong wind, bounce off the path) that contributed to the distance. The course is finally starting to dry a bit, and getting a ball that rolls even a little is a big boost to distance. I wish the drive wouldn't have ended up under a tree, though
Here's my biggest improvement thus far:
So I'm hitting essentially twice as many GIRs as this time last year, with fractionally fewer putts per hole. That's a good combination. That GIR number is still not OK, but progress is good.
Tomorrow night is my first league match of the season. I'm partnering with my dad this season, which puts me in a different position that previous years in league: I'll be matching up with the better player on the teams we play, so that should provide some healthy pressure.
Next week, my wife and I celebrate our tenth anniversary. My parents are watching our children for a few days while she and I take a short trip, and that'll include two rounds of golf. She doesn't play (though she's a better athlete than I am), but she does enjoy being outdoors and so she'll join me for walking those rounds. I'm looking forward to playing a couple different courses (I play almost all my golf at one course) and seeing how my game travels.
Well, Happy Anniversary to you two! Have a good time out there and just play your game. Nice work so far!

Thanks! That hole can be a monster, I don't remember the last time I had a par on that hole. I can only think of one, maybe two bogeys in the last year . At best, laying up leaves a nice cool 150-160 plus additional club uphill to a double tier green with a false front and two pot bunkers guarding the front left (my usual miss).
My 3 wood has been an absolute nightmare lately and yesterday I'm hitting the driver okay and controlling it okay. Worst case scenario I'm in the drink with the driver, take a drop and I'll have a shot at the green that I'm used to taking. Best case, I clear the second creek for the first time ever. It was a no brainer, to take the risk and it worked out nicely. Come to find out, carrying the second creek leaves a nice full wedge in, and makes the hole playable!
Great detail and it indeed seems you've found the key to this one for sure! Keep us posted on your next few trips there for sure!
Funny how clubs we get comfortable with and count on can just become crap overnight it seems. My FW's are definitely that way. I'll be able to just stripe them over and over again for weeks, then a brain fart sets in and I start topping and skulling every shot. I've found that I have to have a long dragging take-away from the ball before I pick up the club head to the back-swing otherwise...well...crap.

Had a really good round going Sunday and played the front 9 to only(?) +10. My "bad" hole is my nemisis #3 where I was in the water off the tee for the 5'th straight round...maybe 6'th! Anyhow, the next hole is the first par-5 of the day and I hit a decent drive just off the right side of the FW. Then hit a 3w to within 50-yds in front of the green. The shot-o-the-day, was a full-on 60* wedge from there to land about 8-ft or so...
Yes, it was a par...sigh...

Two shots are in contention from yesterday. Par 3 #16 is a nice 200-220 yard par 3. Green was middle right yesterday. For the second time in as many rounds, when I needed my 4 iron, I absolutely smashed it. This beauty went 210 to about 16-17 feet, for a nice two putt par which was needed after a dumb double on the previous hole.
Second shot, was on one of my nemesis holes the 387 yard par 4, 17th. There is a downhill landing area in between two creeks. The first creek is a 200 yard carry, the second you have to carry 260 off the tee. I normally lay up inbetween creeks but I went for it yesterday. For the first time in my life I carried the second creek and the boom stick ended up at 292 just to the right of the fairway in the rough. It felt as though I have finally conquered the beast.
Nicely done! I can only occasionally produce a driver shot that long. I'd still chicken out on that one and tee-off with 3w.

Thanks! On that Platinum, I'm not sure. I'll examine it a bit closer tonight and let you know. I think it came with its own fuse though...

Thank you! I have had a lot of trouble squaring my driver this spring leading to a lot of short and awful slices. So it was nice to finally uncork one yesterday on my nemesis hole even if it was downhill. You have that new 410 in the bag, I'm expecting to see you on the leaderboard here before long!
Yeah (knocking on wood) I think I finally have driver figured out...for now... Time will tell and I hope to have some positives with the HRC with it for sure.

I'm in! Er...I reckon I qualify as a "High" handicapper, yes? Where is the mid-cap line generally?

First round in! I may have had an advantage today by having a golf lesson earlier today....but you boys better go low, because as much to my own surprise, the gauntlet has been thrown down.
I played the back 9 at my home course, Spring Lake Country Club. The white tees rate (70.9, 121). The evnroll was on fire and got me to a 46. My long drive for the day ended up at 292 on a downhill hole (#17). However, with two creeks that have to be cleared at 260, driver is not a safe bet. I can thank the drought for the roll out but the tee shot ended up in the rough. So my paltry uphill and into the wind fade will have to count for my long drive at a whopping 218 on the par 4 12th hole.
I had the pure joy of playing a nice piece of fine granite, a number 3 Nitro Extreme Distance, until it was shanked into the woods on it's way to a 9 stroke blow up on the par 5 13th. An exquisite piece of hardened Gold from Pinnacle made it the rest of the way and boy was it pure gold. It should have been labelled Extreme Distance. That ball, though not as rock hard as a Top Flite, could still have it's dimples counted from the center of your clubface. But that rock solid feel did rocket off of the face and roll out like the road runner running from Wile E. Coyote. It also made a great showing with my Evnroll, as mentioned before, smashing into the pin and dropping from 23 feet and 12 feet. It also scared a few holes with a few bump n' runs. The honeymoon period has been nice, but I'll be glad to get back to a urethane covered ball soon.
No closest to the pin for this round. Let's see what you guys can do!
Nice work out there John! That 292 had me shaking in my boots until you retracted it! Wow!
