... Thanks. My gut feeling is MIM will not be as soft feeling as a true forged iron like Cobra's past offerings, especially not using 8620. My guess is they will fall somewhere between and softer than a typical cast iron and not as soft as a true 1020 to 1030 carbon forging. I do not think the T100-S are as soft as my last set of Forged Tours but that is nit picking because I had to hit them side by side to feel the difference as it was very close. I wonder of range balls were a factor in your MIM 7 iron demo?

Do you know what metal they use in the MIM? I didn't catch it on their website.

I'm sure range balls factored in a bit, but any time I test irons outside of an actual fitting (Forged Tour, T100 as two relevant examples) I use this range and their range balls, so I am at least measuring apples to apples.

I'm hoping it was just an off day because I want the MIMs to be the answer for me! With a slightly larger blade length and a touch more forgiveness than my CBs, paired with a thin topline and minimal offset, they are perfect for me (on paper).

... I think you know I played all the previous versions. Amp Forged, Fly Z and Forged Tours. More will follow in my review of course but I think these have a niche maybe all by themselves. Slightly larger blade length for a little additional forgiveness and plenty of perimeter weighting but a pure players look and performance. I was smitten with the originals and Rick Shiels also did a great review on the Amp Forged and was spot on when he said he absolutely loved them but thought very few would even look at them let alone play them. Maybe the most under the radar irons ever produced.

I am very interested in your feedback here - glad that you will be reviewing given your in depth knowledge of their past irons. I was surprised that I did not love the feel when I tried out the MIM 7 iron. If you really like them and think the feel is in line with their past strong offerings, then it's very possible something was off when I tried them, and I'll need to give them another shot!

  3. I got a chance to hit the 7 iron the other day at the range. As a huge Cobra fan I was surprisingly disappointed in the feel to be honest. I will try again and see if I can hit one with the $ Taper that matches my King Forged CBs (they only had the Modus 120x available when I hit it).

  4. I think a lot of the "blades" with wider bodies are hollow players distance (i500, Forged Tec) or game improvement irons with some sort of "goo" injected into the head, so a fully enclosed package (hehe) is necessary.

But as far as true single piece blades with a wider body, what's an example iron you're thinking of? I'd be curious to learn more about them too.

Seems to be some good feedback on these drivers. I just picked up a very lightly used TSi3 w/ ventus black 6x to try out. I also have a speeder evo 661 2.0 (dj shaft) to try it in. I will be comparing it to a Sim with the dj shaft and a ATMOS ts 7x. Can't wait to try it out.

Nice! Curious how your TSi3 matches up to the Sim once you get testing started. Obviously ymmv, but one of my best friends that I golf with regularly, ~4 handicap, tried out my TSi3 a couple of weeks ago and has since ditched his Sim that he had gotten fitted for about 2 months prior.

Maybe I missed this in the thread but .....

what shafts did everyone get fit into?

I'm trying to decide which shaft to pursue with my upcoming purchase.  Since @Golfspy_CG2won't hook a brutha up with his TSi2, I have to buy my own.  So I want to make sure the shaft is correct if I'm spending that kinda cash $$$

98 - 102 mph club speed (the upper end on a good day when my back doesn't hurt)  HA!

I am sitting in the ~106-108 mph swing speed range and was fit into the AD-IZ 7x. Of the non-markup shafts, the Tensei Raw Blue 75x was really good and numbers were almost even with the IZ; I would have no issues buying it. I really liked the RDX shaft too...definitely softer than the original HZRDUS and I think a little softer feeling than the smoke too, but I was getting better (higher) launch with the Tensei Blue and IZ.

I think Titleist did a really good job with stock shaft selection. You should def get fit if you can but you have a wide range of options that may be appropriate at that swing speed.

  7. I like this discussion, and I go back and forth on this myself. I have a set PW & GW at 46* and 50*, and then a Vokey 54* & 58*. That means I don't have room for both the hybrid and driving iron at the top of the bag. At some courses I have removed driver, some I have removed the 50 (I can dial down the PW or hit a 3/4 9 iron, but need to get better at both), but usually I just keep the driving iron out of the bag as I would only hit it 1-2 times per round at most of the courses I play.

I have been toying with a 52* wedge to replace the 50 and 54 and give me back the slot at the top of the bag, but am probably just going to wait until I get my next set of irons in a year or two to make the change.

I have a primo tee time on Torrey North Saturday morning. I hear the rough over there is starting to get pretty nasty so it will be a good test of the TSi. Cannot. Wait.

Well the TSi passed the test with flying colors. My stats say I was 6/14, but of the 8 misses, 6 of them were well-struck fades that were just off of the right side of the fairway (I wasn't starting the ball far enough left). Things also got better as the day went along. I absolutely striped the last 3 of the day on 16, 17, and 18, with 16 as the most rewarding in my book; this is an uphill dogleg right with the pacific on the left, and I haven't had the confidence to pull driver, aim toward the trouble and trust a fade for quite some time. I also like it for the view you get when you reach your ball and turn around 🙂

The distance difference is less so than the forgiveness and playability. So far in my on course data (haven’t been on an LM yet) the TSi and Epic SZ are fairly close in distance with Tiffany beating Eddie by 6-8 yards most times and based on the fitting she’s smacking him pretty hard on ball speed.

But more research will be needed to determine the ultimate distance king/queen

I have actually yet to hit 160 ball speed on the LM with the TSI, while I have got up to 161 with the EFSZ. The Epic’s shaft and head is lighter, and is playing -1/2” compared to my TSi, so not really apples to apples; YMMV. Anyway, the forgiveness across the face is what really stands out about the TSi, for me at least.

  10. Just range this weekend and boy was it crowded. No chance at renting a top tracer bay and had to wait to get a spot on a regular mat. I did start messing with the tracer app though. Bit of a hassle to work with but I did properly record a couple good ones and they are cool to have.

I was also able to test out the consistency across the face (strictly for the testing obviously, otherwise we would stick to just hitting the middle 😜). I am really liking this aspect of the club so far.

Is there a Golf Shop you frequent often that will let you have some free LM time at “slow time”?
I have a SC 200 that is now a “neighborhood” unit and waiting until monsoon stops.
I’m going to get some Golf Shop (off peak) time for spin rates which are not available on the SC200.
I like the SC200 because it’s being used outside.

I just have the local driving range which has a few TopTracer bays for rent. Would be great to get on a Trackman, but I don't have a connection for that unfortunately.

  12. Ended up still playing yesterday but there was standing water on about half the greens so we played simulator rules for putting. Didn’t matter for the driver! I had a couple loose drives to start the day but got it going on the back 9. I don’t have any shot tracking data and wind was swirling so distances were kind of whacky, but I was 5/7 in fairways (2/5 on the front with driver). It was actually nice (for review purposes) to have a few of my typical misses. I think the big takeaway is that my TSi felt more forgiving than my Epic. I don’t know how much comes from the heavier shaft mitigating some of my bad left misses vs a more forgiving head, but what would have been snappy hooks turned into pulls - not good shots, but playable.

I recently went to a store with GC Hawks to do some driver testing with a Honma TR20 I won.  AT the end decided to check out TSi3.  Gathered the data for info/entertainment.  MY takeaway was, ball speed off TSi3 wasn't any faster than M5.  Avg were about equal.  My spin numbers with M5 were very erradic.  More stable with TSi3.  I don't think I found the best combination as all I had avail was Tensei wt and Smoke RDX in 60gX, TSi3 couldn't keep it right of target at all.  Best with M5 was 163.1mph 294yd/313yd, best with TSi3 161.8mph 292yd/308yd.

I am generally finding similar results re: ball speed so far. It is every bit as fast as my Epic, but isn't some world beater. To Titleist's credit, I don't think they are making any grand promises to hit new ball speed records, but they are touting a focus on ball speed consistency across the face, which should in theory help me more often.

  14. I should add from the range yesterday that in tweaking my epic to match the TSi (up to 10 loft from 8 and moving the weight from heel to toe side) my launch and carry numbers immediately improved. I had been at those settings previously but have been messing with them searching for answers lately.

Still A LOT of work to be done but I think I can at least put up a decent battle with the current setup.
