For me it's about finding a balance while still staying hydrated. If the only drink I have cracked is a beer, then it'll negatively impact my play after 8 or 9 holes (sooner if I drink it faster). But if I have a water or Gatorade at the same time, then I can drink from that when my body is telling me I need to drink liquids, and help avoid the negative impacts of beer.

That balance is so key, I always have 2 litres of rehydrate with me too, especially if its above 30 Degrees Celsius...

  2. I've been struggling to maintain or improve my HCP this year, too many thoughts going through my head, nerves, and me putting pressure on myself to break 10 HCP this year.

CBD oil doesn't work, chewing gum works a tiny bit, but a flask of whiskey or a premixed flask of G&T is working like a charm! I'm down 3 HCP points in 3 weeks! I even manage to be sober before the comp is done....🤪

Would love to hear others thoughts on this from fellow drunks or teetotalers....

  3. From a quality and budget perspective these are my best pics that you can't go wrong with:

Pants - Inesis (Decathlon) or Kando (Uniqlo) Great quality, Dirt Cheap, and a good selection.

Polos - Uniqlo, well priced and last long

For that extra touch of funk or humour its all Golf Gods or William (Bill) Murray for me:

I try to practice just to keep what I've got.

If my score drops, it feels like I'm a burden to my playing partners.

Sometimes,  a  change will happen, and my score will drop.

It is just a constant practice, and when a new area improves, it's a real bonus.

to elaborate on the playing partners, if they are better than you it can be very motivating too. Yes, you don't wanna kill the pace of play, but you also want to give them a run for their money.

I’m by nature entirely too competitive, so until I break par consistently I will not be satisfied. That being said, I make note of positives from every round. It’s easy to beat myself up over the bad shots but it’s the good ones that keep you going back. What did I do well in hitting that approach shot? How do I replicate the physical and mental approach of that moment to get more consistent? To me, that’s just fun.

I was just talking to a former golfer who is playing D1 golf about this yesterday. He said it perfectly. “No one makes it to the next level unless they fall in love with the process.” Find your joy in improving, grab it by the reins, and run with it. If you’re not having fun you’re doing it wrong.

I assume you read the Zen Golf book! hahahah

Was a great eye opener for me.

  6. I'd love to hear from other hackers what you do to stay motivated when the going gets tough?

Since i'm a proud golf bum aka thrift store7udget golfer, every-time I break into a new HCP segment I buy something new/fitted.

When I broke 20, I bought, new Adidas shoes, when I broke 15 I got a fitted Cobra driver. Breaking 10 will mean some new cutlery (irons) for me...

Down to 266.4 from 318 pre-covid. Keto is the sole reason for this. I also got a push cart a few weeks ago so I could start walking more often.

My goal was 250 before EOY and now I’m shooting for 235 by EOY. That would be my lowest weight since 1999 and I’d end up 83 pounds down this year.

Keto/Banting is the 💣. Been doing that for a year now and lost 10kg and have sooo much more energy. Tim Noake's Real Meal Revolution is great https://realmealrevolution.com/

Played for the first time in 2 months last week. First 2 drives out of the gate with the SZ were slices. Turned my right hand under a little more and it straightened everything out. Also try the 8 deg draw setting. Works for me.

If I turn my right hand under any more, I'll end up dislocating my wrist. 🤪

But the 3 deg draw settings sounds worth trying, even though the lower loft would mean I can't go tiger line anymore. 😕

I think the SZ sets up a little open faced by default. I'm still tweaking between std and draw setting.

Last week had a couple of slices during a round so my quick fix was closing the face on address to salvage the round.

The next day went to the range to hit a shitload of balls and they all went straight. So I would like to think it was just a couple of bad swings.

Thats what I thought, I guess I gotta keep tweaking and practicing. Kinda like when you get a new car, confidence is off a bit. Different type of driving! hahaha

  10. Heyo fellow Hackers,

so I recently ''upgraded'' from my M3 to the SZ, I could shape the M3 nicely, but the consistency and distance needed some help. After a Cobra demo day and a proper fitting the SZ gave me less spread and an average of 7 meters extra distance.

Shockingly though, out on the course, with the same swing and setup as I had with my M3 I hit this huuuuuge slice in comparison to my fairly straight hits on the launch monitor. The only key difference I can think of is going from a silverish (M3) face to a very dark silver7 blackish (SZ) Face, which is different to read and messes with my face to path setup.

Other thing I thought was that they just favourably tweaked the trackman at the pro shop to make the club work for me inside?

Anybody else experience this when getting a new boom stick? All I want is my draw back.... 😞

I really liked the LZ performance today. I hit some towering shots with the forged Tec irons.

are you only looking to retrofit them to the wilsons?  You clubs always order one and make sure you like that combo.

Yeah, I'm gonna test my C300 with the LZ & the Dynamic Gold 300s, just to see if the result is actually close to a 30$ difference per shaft. I want to play these clubs at least another 3 years (5 years in total), or if I manage to get to a steady single digit hcp.

I am currently gaming the LZ 6.5 in my Cobra Forged Tec irons for #CCC4. I was originally fit into the Nippon Modus 120x but that was unavailable. I think they are similar, with the modus feeling a touch softer in the handle and smoother overall.

If you can give them a try I would. But it sounds like the LZ are a perfect match for you.

I used to have C-Taper Lite in stiff and the regular C-Taper was offered as a substitute, but I did not try them in person.

Question for you... did you try the LZ in your current iron head? I only ask because I went up 15g in shaft weight and also love the feel for the head I have now, but the heads themselves are also 7-8 grams heavier which is a significant factor.

No, the LZ was fitted to AP2 Irons, don't know if they are heavier than my C300's 😕

I have these in my current 790s and when I tested the G710's. Love this shaft. As I have paid more attention to feel of shafts and how they bend these are as good as it gets for me (Modus 125 is a close second). I can tell where the club head is with this while not feeling like I am bending/losing control. Little heavier which helps with my mental that if I am a little chunky I will clear and still get some good distance out of the ball. Highly recommend these shafts but they do look expensive over there which is tough.

I agree with the chunking bit, I couldn't believe how much easier it was to get good impact after hitting it fat!

I tried the LZ in my i500 review for MGS and couldn't get along with it. I was playing the normal PX before that and for some reason the fitter thought it would be a good alternative, big mistake IMO.

Yeah, apparently if you have a steady tempo and smooth transition the LZ won't feel too great. if you're on the opposite scale like me, it helps you steady your swing.

  15. Let me start off with a confession, my irons Wilson c300, KBS regular shafts, were bought as a demo set, not fitted.  😳

I have a 6 iron swing speed of 88/mph and tend to hook mis-hits.

I knew a stiffer shaft could be the way to increase accuracy and lower dispersion for me from listening to "no putts given", so I went for a fitting and tried the Dynamic Gold shaft amongst others, but I was blown away by the Project X LZ Steel 6.5. It decreased my dispersion drastically and stabilised my swing.

What I liked most though is the 125 grams of weight, which is mostly shifted closer to the club head. This feeling gave me so much more confidence when picking up the club!

The only downside is that in Australia, the shaft costs 30 AU$/shaft more than the dynamic gold, which is making me consider biting the bullet and getting new irons in the process, even though mine are only 2 years old.

Any thoughts or different experiences with this shaft?
