Ive been playing Snell MTB-X for about a year, love it. But by complete accident, played a recovered Bridgestone TOUR BRX this spring, on a high wind day. The ball flight was substantially better for me off the tee with driver. Similar launch as MTB-X, but flew noticeably straighter. 13hcp, 95mph maverick max, neutral swing path. Experimented a little the next day, strong wind again. Played Tour BRX front 9 and MT B-X back nine, results confirmed. Bought some 2020 BRX and have played the last 15 rounds with them. Now that the greens in MN are playing a bit closer to normal, i find it a little harder to hold greens outside 160yards. Not sure what the greens are rolling, but courses i play the most are around 138-145 slope. I know that the packaging and GolfSpy research shows that the Bridgestone Tour BX doesnt quite fit my swing speeds but the Golf Spy study shows some evidence of slightly higher spin, with minimal sacrifice to ball speed and launch angle at slower swing speeds. Going to pick up some Tour BX this week and see if i can hold more greens with similar ball flights, especially in the wind. But all of this leads me to feel conflicted. I love Snell as a company and the MTB-X is fantastic at the price point, but i also love the results ive had with the Tour BRX, and the “Made in the USA” is huge to me. Considering playing 2 balls, Tour BRX/BX on windy days, MTB-X on calm days. Does anyone else play 2 balls for this reason?

Same situation with the RX, try a sleeve of the RXS , much better stopping power for me, I am trying some BX versions now and I admit it was a way better than average shot for me but were were 85 out and I hit a hard low spinner wedge 3 foot right of the pin in a 4 man scramble, my sight is crap so I asked my partners where my divot was because I knew it hit the green and one of them blurted out its under the $%$^&&**& ball lol. I havent tried the BXS but will eventually to satisfy my curiosity but 1 sleeve of the RXS put the RX on the backup shelf , carry slightly less on irons if I remember right but stops on the green and better carry on the driver for me. Tag me and keep me posted, sounds like were in the same golfing shoes.

The player:
Current gamer - Left Dash ProV1 ProV1x '21 TP5x CSxLS
Handicap - 3.8
7 iron carry distance with current ball - 183yd
Trajectory - high
Putter - Toulon Seattle

The ball: TP5x PROTO '24

Distance - Remarkable. No noticeable gains in distance out on play. Notice some really long balls but not to say balls I game with would not have done that either. Have not had the chance to get on LM for numbers.

Trajectory - Mid/high flight. Off the tee its not ultra high but a good medium high one. Its comparable to prov1x but a bit less in irons. I compare iron trajectory to a vice pro plus. Wedges can be flighted nicely and no evidence of any ballooning.

Spin - Remarkable. Compared to the tour balls it has enough spin around the greens. Its comparable to the '21 TP5x. Not like the '19 TP5x where you would have to play for more roll out in short game shots.

Feel - Extra firm. With that the '24 tp5x proto is def clickier than the previous. I noticed it more on 1/2 to 3/4 wedge shots especially when you don't get it center center on the face. You hit it low toe or high it def has a more pronounced click to it. Which makes sense since with a shorter slower swing you are not compressing it at all and just hitting the cover. To whom that do not use firm balls I could see as a turn off but to whom have used firm balls like left dash and CSxLS its not too different from their clicks.

With putting it has a satisfying feedback. Obviously there is no traits of being soft or mushy so you can use the softest insert made and its still going to click off a putter without feeling like hitting a cement ball. Overall satisfying to putt with the adage of the diamond shaped pix pattern.

Durability - I was overall pleased with the durability after two rounds. One was a par3 course with mostly wedges and admittedly with a couple of bladed knifes in there 😅 and a round on a sandy overseeded course with a couple of bunker shots, the ball came out overall well and will not toss until lost haha.

Rating -  Its a great ball that competes with the best. I like their mypix program that lets you design the entire ball yourself. You can really make your golf your own way and not even have numbers on them and I think that is innovative in the ball industry.

Yesterday I was able to test the 2024 TP5x on my Bushnell Launch Pro inside.  Some interesting findings against the ProV1x.  For myself, the TP5x spun more on irons and less on driver then the ProV1x.  The TP5x was also about 3-5 yards longer on irons and about 4-6 on driver.  I tested with 9 iron, 5 iron, and driver.  I can't wait to try it out on the course.

Just bought the Taylormade TP5 and was curious, they have 1,2,3,5 is that because it’s a TP”5” or because it’s a 5 piece ball? Why did TM skip 4 on the ball numbering? I actually like the 5 but just curious if someone knows

I've been trying a few sleeves of the new Callaway Chrome Tour balls before I work out what my golf ball will be for the year (us Aussies get to play golf all year round!).

I like the feel and the performance of the Chrome Tour ball, but I noticed that their durability leaves a lot to be desired! A few times I've hit a Chrome Tour into a single gum tree, and it comes out the other side looking like the ball has picked a fight with several trees!

Has anyone else noticed similar durability issues with the Chrome Tour ball?

Lets talk about the 2023 Maxfli Tour Ball

Current gamer - Maxfli Tour (2023)
Handicap - 14.7
7 iron carry distance with current ball - 165
Trajectory - High
Putter - TaylorMade Spider GTx (PureRoll Face Insert) - Medium

The ball:
2023 Maxfli Tour

Distance - Same
Trajectory - High
Spin - Release some
Feel - Soft but not mushy
Durability (1 round) - scuffed, wouldn't game 2 rounds with 1 ball
Rating - Gamer

Notes or writeup:
I started playing the Maxfli brand balls when I slowly started improving my game. I switched to the Maxfli Tour balls about 12 months ago and I am loving them so far! I can't find a better ball for a better price. Main 2 gripes I have with it, is probably using it when playing 60-110 yard wedge shots. I'm looking for a little more stopping power to even more backspin. I just got new wedges, so I have fresh grooves. I recently played a round with the 2024 TP5 and TP5x, and I was pleasantly surprised with the similarities they had, although short game spin goes to TaylorMade. I would love to game those, IF they weren't $55/doz. Overall, I'd give the Maxfli Tour Ball a 8/10 from my experience playing with it. Hope this helps!

I agree that the Chrome Tour hasn't been super durable, although it seems better than the Chrome Soft X LS that I played last year.

Will add that it feels comparable to the Chrome Soft X LS off the tee, but better spin on iron shots and around the green. Need to get on a sim at some point to confirm those feels.

Just in time for a weekend round the vice golf balls I bought when they had the free customization sale going a few weeks back came in.  Got some Air and Pro to see what fits me best based on what the ball tests showed.  I have been on the hunt for a new ball since Kirkland updated to version 3 (I loved version 2 but the 3 felt like I was hitting a rock when I had super forgiving irons with graphite shafts but when I went back to steel shafts and forged irons it they were almost painful to hit for me).  Bounced around with a bunch of the two-piece balls supersofts, velocities, and the like but needed more stopping power around the greens.  Plus with the free customization, I put bigfoot on them so when someone finds one in the woods it will put a smile on their face so any Western Mass golfers on here keep an eye out for bigfoot stamped balls in the courses around Springfield.

I agree with this review.  Played ProV1x for first half of season, got some Maxfli Tour and I can't see a ton of difference.  I would say the Pro V may spin a touch more around the green, but not much.  For the price I don't really feel like I am missing much performance.

Current gamer - Taylormade TP5x Previous years models
Handicap or Ave score - 13.1 Average score 89
7 iron carry distance with current ball - 195 yds (5,000 feet elevation: Tahoe)
Trajectory - VERY HIGH
Putter - Ping Anser 2, Full steel head, firm

The ball:
Taylormade TP5x 2024(".5 club longer")

Distance - as a 13.1 handicap, this ball did fly further, but for an inconstant golfer this might hurt you with a flyer lie or thinner contact with the ball.
Trajectory - This years TP5x actually helped my trajectory a bit. It is lower than last years model(for me) but the height does not effect the stopping power and spin you can get even out of long iron shots.
Spin - I have noticed that this ball has one hop stop mentality and I love seeing it just stick like Velcro to the green. It may depend on your shot type, even with a draw/hook for me the stopping power is still there on medium to shorter range shots into the green.
Feel - Long iron/Driver shots feel smooth off the club face almost as if you can feel the compression in slow motion, shorter green side shots feel a bit firm but still produce spin and trajectory that you are looking for.
Durability (1 round) - I played one full round(mountain golf as a 13.1) and had a few member bounces off pine trees into the fairways, noticed that the ball help up reasonably well for what I put it through. With a flushed iron shot you will not notice any true club "scuff marks" but I have noticed this ball tends to get grass stained very easily so make sure you bring your towel to the green with you when one sticks its landing or has some spin on it. Might have lost one or two on the round, but what 13.1 doesn't lose at least one??
Rating - Total gamer. The ".5 club longer" marketing is true in a sense that the ball can and will travel a bit further on perfect contact, but for a 13.1 handicap that perfect contact can be as many as a few shots a round. This will definitely be something to look out for but overall this ball has been perfect for my game recently.

Notes or writeup:
To conclude- the TP5x ball is one of my favorites I have played in a long time. The trajectory of the newest model is better than the last TP5x and overall feel is relatively the same. Something to keep in mind is that this ball does fly a bit further and when you have a flyer lie it will come out hot, but this also helps in a sense that on miss hits you might get some of that distance back. Overall, this ball will be my newest gamer and I think it will stick around in my bag for a while. I am new to these reviews and testing of equipment, but hope this helps out a fellow mid-high handicap guy like me.

Thanks!

Bumping this again because it really serves as a great resource.

I’ve played the ZStar XV the last two years. Out of curiosity I switched to the Diamond, primarily for the iron spin.

To keep this concise, what I’ve realized is this ball is the XV, only better.

I haven’t seen any loss of distance off the tee and the control inside 100 yards is superior. It’s no wonder this ball tested so well in MGS ball testing.

I’ll share more soon  My daughter returns to school next week and I have five rounds scheduled 😊

I didn’t lose one today and split the round. One for the front and one for the back. Here’s the typical wear for reference.

I also have a Maxfli surprise upcoming thanks to the generosity of @chisag
