RexS
So I wonder if this will be the last year for the LPGA at Kingsmill. The new owners have been making a lot of changes. They let about 70% of the staff go this year to bring in all their own. RexS
There are 3 courses but, according to the website the Woods Course is the members only course. It doesn't matter to me though because all 3 courses are too Rich for my wallet. cnosil
So I wonder if this will be the last year for the LPGA at Kingsmill. The new owners have been making a lot of changes. They let about 70% of the staff go this year to bring in all their own. During our volunteer meeting we were told that they were close to having a deal to extend the tournament. They were hoping to have the deal in place before the tournament but that didn't happen. Executives from the new ownership will be playing in the pro-am. I hear that the River course is now a private club. Really doesn't matter to me, I'd rather play the Golden Horseshoe anyway. The courses have been private for a while. River is for resort guests. cnosil
Spent the last two days at Kingsmill watching the qualifier and practice rounds. It is interesting to note that there are quite a few players playing PXG clubs but are not sponsored players. Saw lots of players using Aimpoint Express during their practice putting; most were testing the greens with their levels. Pelz Putting tutor is used by a lot of players. The visio putting template was in use by a bunch of players as well; seems like a 2 person job to get it laid down on the green to get it flat since it is stored rollled up. Course is in great condition; going to be warm and humid most of the tournament. Looking forward to starting my volunteer duties starting tomorrow. Was a walking scorer for some great players this week: Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr, Brooke Henderson, Carlota Ciganda, and So Yeon Ryu I was rooting for her too. She made some great putts. Her swing is hard for me to watch, but she really gets after it. I like In Gee Chun's swing a lot. I'm glad to see the U.S. ladies starting to show up on the leaderboards again. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
