Heavy putter, soft insert

Recommended Posts

As a an admitted putter junkie, I have quite a few different configurations that I play with on my indoor green during the winter. Surprisingly or not, I'm currently stroking a 20+ year old Natural Golf Thing putter the best. It's a solid brass center shafted small football shaped head with a square grip.

What I'm looking for is a heavy center shafted mallet with a very soft insert to experiment with.

Any ideas from the MSG braintrust? TIA

Nothing specific, but I'd start by searching for older belly or long putters with inserts.  Odyssey made a bunch that are generally heavier heads and they have soft inserts.

The new O Works inserts are plenty soft and you can adjust the weights to get a nice heavy feel.

Here's my input from my putter search. Odyssey as others have said. Maybe Ping Scottsdale. Way out there in looks,(and a bit old) but fulfills is the Nike Drone or Smart Square.

Most spontaneous choice; Taylomade Spider, if willing to spend some cheddar. Best of luck on your tinkering.

Almost any Bobby Grace mallet. All the way back to the original Amazing Grace. They are whisper quiet off the face and perfect for long smooth strokes on fast greens. It has always bothered me that Bobby won't submit for Most Wanted testing

I don't know for sure if they have inserts, but what about the company Heavy Putter, all of their putters are well, heavy

No inserts, that's why I didn't post earlier cause he asked for insert.

I have the center shafted H1 & just picked up a L3 M (had this model before). These are my putters of choice

An older STX long putter head. I think they are well over 400g and they always had really soft inserts in them.

My second putter was an STX Switchblade; comes with 2 weighted face inserts. one heavy and one light.  I always went with the heavy one.  The face is extremely soft.  That putter got me going in the direction of heavy putters, so I bought a used heavy Putter C2-DF model.  I used that for many years until last year when I went with the Ping Sigma G Doon with the CB grip.
