HeathS16
Hey guys, I am seeking some advice on something that I have never done before. I have been a member here since 2016 and I have loved my time here. I trust what you have to say so I do not feel too embarrassed asking about this. After having taught for 3 years I just started a new job corporate job two weeks ago. A member of my team invited me to join the company golf league. They play every other Thursday right after work and there are a considerable amount of people there. My friend also said that it is a great place to network as well, since several members of the executive board play regularly. I guess what I am seeking is a bit of advice as to how to go about this. I have never been in a league before, skins match or anything like that. So I am not starting with too much knowledge here. I have the basic format of the league like how its set up and how they play. I guess I am just looking for any advice you guys might have for a golf league newbie. Thanks in advance ya'll! STUDque
Step 1: Show off your fancy new irons Step 2: Win all the skins Step 3: Share your success secrets with the big wigs Step 4: Enjoy the positive first impression Step 5: Profit In earnest, most leagues like this have the rules written out somewhere. I'd try to get a hold of those to read up before the first round. If not, I'm sure people in your playing group would be more than happy to walk you through it as you go. djahubes
Just don't be a sandbagger and all will be well. Nothing worse than the new guy showing up, shooting a 75 as a 20 HC and taking all the $$$!! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
cnosil
I play in my companies golf league and there are players that range from hourly to executive management. The most important thing is that you are going to play to have fun. As was said, get a copy of the rules and see how the league is run. Most are handicap based so be prepared to report average scores or a handicap. Just treat is like it is, a bunch of guys that enjoy the game of golf and are going out for some friendly competition. MGoBlue100
Many people say you can learn a lot about a person by playing a round of golf with that person. Just be sure when someone discusses you, they can say: “He plays in our golf league, he's a good guy!†Doesn't matter one iota how you play, well or poorly. Mr. 82
FYI +1 on a previous comment of not being a sandbagger. I have that situation now - match play two weeks ago in league we played against a guy who killed us, he was gir on most holes and had a 30 handicap - really Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy I would imagine, just speaking from my own personal approach, but you can burn me once on something like this, but I just make a mental note, and blacklist this cat from existence. Not only do I never play golf with him again, but I don't even give him the time of day. Sandbagging is a crime in my book, especially when money is involved, because you are basically telling everyone you are a thief, and proud to be one. I played in a member guest a few years ago and was in a flight with a father and son, who bested their combined handicap by 12 strokes in one round. I complained to the club, and they simply laughed it off. This duo won our flight and when their names were announced as winners, there were more than a few very loud "SANDBAGGERS!!!" shouted out. But my anger was more with the club then with these two. If the club allows them to claim a $1,500 prize, then the club has no integrity, no backbone, and is not worthy of me ever patronizing them again. No one likes to be stolen from, and that is exactly what happens when you sandbag - you steal. Sorry, rant over.
