Not sure if you regularly compete in state competitions but in Texas you'd better be scratch or even plus. Or forget being a competitive player. Sure in Texas you can possibly enter the event with an 8 hcp - some require a 6 or under I think... but those entrants are only "field-fillers". Texas is tough - meaning very competitive golf market for state amature events. I have tried our senior events but couldn't sniff at really competing. These guys that play in these tournaments are basically amature pros. I currently carry a 4 hcp and wouldn't be competitive. From looking at your state site and the TGA site; Texas is much more restrictive and many players have exemptions further limiting who can walk in. Like I said... it's an extremely competitive association. Best of luck to ya!
