Welcome to the forum! I see your bag has a bit of Sub70 gear, similar to myself! Have you ever been to their fitting studio in Sycamore, IL?  I’d really like to go someday

Thanks.  I love MSG so far.  I have been the store in Sycamore.  I live less than 2 hours from there.  Great old building that they have really decked out.  I spent over an hour with Jason (CEO) on my fitting.  I am a clubmaker and I have been buying components from Jason (he owns Diamond Tour Golf) for about 30 years.  Great guy.  The Sub 70 swag is awesome too!

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?   I've played my entire life.  I was on golf courses before I could walk.  I wanted to be a teaching pro or play professionally, but eventually got burnt out + married and family.  The past few years I've gotten deeper and deeper into golf again and have a renewed passion and appreciation for the game.

What do you love about golf?   The process of getting better. I love the simple grind of practice.  A lot of the time I'd rather just spend hours on the range than actually going out to play. The never ending search for perfection even knowing that is not something to ever by achieved.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?   I've known of MGS for years, but never bothered to sign up to the forums.  I don't know many golfers in real life these days  (especially fellow golf nerds) so it's nice to have some sort of community.

Where are you from? What is your home course?   SE MN -  I don't really have a home course here.  Options aren't too great unfortunately.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?   Overall, the courses in this area are really pretty and lush.  The worst is having a shorter season and memberships at the local courses charge as much as all year golfing locations I've lived in the past.

What do you do for a living?  Healthcare

How’d you pick your user name?   I'm was born and raised in Oklahoma, now living in MN.  So I thought Cold Okie would be a funny nod.

Hey everyone! Just recently joined and finally found the introduction thread! My WIYB is down below, glad to be here to meet everyone.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

I just recently started playing again after a 4 or 5 year hiatus. Played about 3 years prior and bought a set of clubs that I've taken with me every move and finally last summer I started playing again now that I have friends and my girlfriend's dad who will meet up for 9 or 18. My normal score is around +30 to +40

What do you love about golf?

I love just getting out and playing with friends and the challenge of improving my game.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I actually found this forum by accident looking for tips on Google. Started reading through and then found the testers page. Figured I should sign up to be able to use the forum fully and interact with everyone.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I live in the Metro Detroit area, my local courses are Plumbrook and Maple Lane, neither of which I'm a huge fan of. There are a lot of other courses near me I still have to try so I'm hoping I can find one I enjoy more close to home.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

I'd say the best thing is it seems like a very popular sport in my area, and the people you meet on the courses for the most part are really nice and accepting of new golfers. Worst thing is probably the weather being very inconsistent. The forecast and weather are often vastly different and with tee times being a few days to a week out a lot of places, it makes it harder to plan a weekend easier.

What do you do for a living?

I am the Packaging Manager at a meat company.

How’d you pick your user name?

This has just been a username I use often, and I'm not creative enough to think of another one. Uses a nickname I had years ago.

Welcome to the MGS forum from another not too far from the courses you mentioned.

This is a great site for those interested in golf to interact, and there are a few courses around that are much better than the two you mentioned and can be played at for reasonable rates.

Thanks! Yeah there are a few further north I want to try next. My girlfriend's dad lives more north of me and we use Cracklewood's driving range. Probably will play a round there soon.

Just a FYI - Cracklewood also has a "sister" course, Timberwood Golf Club located in Ray Twp. (31Mile & North Ave.) that I typically play at due to the fact that they sell Group Golfer coupons for a reduced rate that are good for all times they have openings. The Group Golfer site has many deals on reduced rates at courses in this area, so that too would be worth checking out.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
Started playing golf about 25 years ago, but for a long while was only playing about a round a year. I'm getting out a bit more regularly the last couple years now that my wife and kids are playing. I'm right about a bogey golfer.
  2. What do you love about golf?
Ah, so much. The challenge of it. The constant learning. The research. Honestly, enjoy being on the range or practice green almost as much as playing a round.
  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
Love the data-driven approach and that I can find quality research on most everything in the golf space. I do not know any other Spies.
  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?
Northwest suburbs of Chicago. I consider Palatine Hills my home course. It's a municipal, but has hosted a couple USGA qualifiers over the last couple years, so not bad.
  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
Chicago area has a ton of courses which is great! Worst thing I'd say is the weather, especially in the spring.
  6. What do you do for a living?
I manage a team of software engineers.
  7. How’d you pick your user name?
Used to play a video game with some buddies, Rocket League, and that was my gamer tag.

I didn't know they had a sister course, I'll definitely have to check it out! I actually get group golfer emails everyday basically lol I used them last year for Maple Lane. I'll have to keep my eyes out for courses around us on there.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

I started playing golf when I was 11 (I'm 36 now), played competitively in high school for my school's team; however, during college and graduate school I was focused on school/partying and only played golf maybe 2-3 rounds a year for about decade. I am a bogey golfer or just slightly better at this point. I don't have an official handicap but am looking maybe get one and play more regularly now.

What do you love about golf?

Getting outside and enjoying a beautiful course. The feeling you get when you hit a perfect golf shot and/or the feeling of flushing the ball right on the sweet spot of the club. I'm a father of 2 (6 y/o girl and 4 y/o boy) and I'm getting them into golf and I suspect golf can lead to some amazing memories and shared experiences over the year with them.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I am a scientist and I got dragged in by the ball data studies and ball lab. I love it. I do not know any other spies on this forum, but I have some buddies I golf with who come to the MGS for news and reviews and we chat about that at work and out on the course.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I live just south of Madison, WI (Oregon, WI) -- I typically play at Evansville Golf Club in Evansville, WI. I like to play a number of the course here in Madison.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Weather/limited season. This year it feels like a lot of courses have had a tough time staying dry or even just not flooded. Bugs, mosquitoes specifically, are also a downside of how wet it has been.

What do you do for a living?

I am a chemist. I am on an R&D team working towards synthesizing and manufacturing portions of highly potent cancer therapeutics called Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).

How’d you pick your user name?

User name given to me by my university/undergrad first letter of our first name, first 4 letters of our last name, and last 4 digits in our student ID. I've used it on a number of website forums/emails etc over the years

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

Ive been playing golf for 20 years. I started playing around 10 years old. My grandfather caddied and played golf his whole life and taught me how to play. In the last couple of years I have been taking golf more seriously and have improved from a 20ish handicap to a 14.6 at the moment.

What do you love about golf?

I am very competitive and enjoy having this competitive outlet now that I am away from team sports. The bigger love though is the time that I get to spend with family. My dad and I play together weekly and that time together is full of life wisdom and frustrated groans at way to many bad shots.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy?

I found MGS through the 2023 Golf Ball Test. I love the overtly scientific method of golf reviews.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I'm from Indianapolis, IN and play Saddlebrook Golf Club mostly. I have been a member there in the past.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The winter

What do you do for a living?

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

I have been playing golf seriously for about 5 years (currently 33). I was a 3 sport athlete in high school but unfortunately golf was not one of them. My dad or siblings did not golf so it was not something I was exposed to growing up. My current handicap is 14.

What do you love about golf?

I really enjoy the variety. Now I don't mean the inconsistency in my game, more so the different courses and equipment available. I enjoy testing out new courses for the first time, even if my score suffers a little.

Although it doesnt happen as often as I would like, I also really like the feeling of sticking a ball close with a nice approach shot. Mose people like crushing drives or hitting a long putt, but I would much rather hit a solid approach that hopes once or twice and stops dead in its tracks.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I have been a frequent visitor of the site for the last 3-4 years and am now just making my way to the forum. I like the no BS articles that are to the point and that let you decide for your own if the equipment will fit your game.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I am from Wisconsin and do not necessarily have a home course. I don't know that I see the value in belonging to an expensive private club (I have an open mind and would love someone to convince me). I could see belonging to an inexpensive public course a little more but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Like everyone in the north, the weather is the worst.

What do you do for a living?

I have been a Youth Pastor for 5 yrs.

Man, Rocket League is a good game! I've not had time to play it in a looooooong time, though.

Hi all! Excited to peruse around these forums and learn more about you all and I hope to contribute along with you fellow spyers.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

I’ve been playing golf very since I was a teenager, yet I didn’t understand the importance of sticking with it until I started my working career.  I golfed freshman year of high school and that was my only official golfing experience.  Since then, I’ve been a once every few months golfer.  My score is generally in the +20 range.

What do you love about golf?

I enjoy playing this game by myself, with friends, family, and in any format.  I’ve gotten my wife into the game, and I hope we can instill the joy of the game in our baby boy.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

JBernGolfs is my fellow MyGolfSpy.  He spread the good word on the interesting testing opportunities and forum discussions, so I thought I would see what it’s all about.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

I live in the Findlay, Ohio area.  Central in Ohio. We have a few courses nearby including Hillcrest and Birch Run.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The best thing about golf in my area is that a majority of courses are public and welcome to all golfers.  The courses are not the most difficult but are good enough for a casual golfer like me.  The worst thing is likely the number of courses in my area of northwest Ohio.  There’s about a 30 minute drive between any course.

What do you do for a living?

I am a Marketing Analyst at a Fortune 20 company.

How’d you pick your user name?

My nickname mirrors my best friend and brother JBernGolfs, who is a veteran on the golf spy forum.
