Golfspy_CG2
This topic csme up in another thread, but this excellent article by Marty Jertson of PING gives a great look as to what smash factor is and why it shouldn’t be the determining factor in buying clubs, especially irons. I found the part about the accuracy of club head speed eye opening! Micah T
Good read and confirms that my fitter knows what he is doing: he wasn’t the least bit interested in my smash factor during my driver fitting. We spent a lot of time on launch angle, dispersion, and peak height. During my wedge fitting last week, we were mostly looking at spin rpms on partial shots...Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Golfspy_CG2 1 Quote Driver - Cobra LtDxLS 3 Wood - Ping g410 LST 2iron - Titleist U505 Irons - Ping i59 Wedges - Vokey Sm9 Putter - Mizuno Mcraft IV
Siamese Moose
I had a driver fitting a few weeks ago (coincidentally ended up with Ping), and my fitter told me to ignore smash factor. I don't remember the whole explanation, but basically he said the reported smash factor was unreliable, and that the clubhead speed reported was not a direct measurement, but an estimated value derived from something else. (I really wish I could remember the specific explanation, but I was focused on fitting a club.)
