I'm a big fan of live and acoustical music...and before the other day I had never really paid any attention to all the hoopla around Lady Gaga. Partly because I listen to Sirius radio all day and not much Top 40 stuff.

 

But I have to say when she performed on Howard Stern the other day the girl made me put down my work and listen. The girl can sing!

 

Here is that video and another I found of her doing a live version of another one of her songs. If you like hearing someone passionate about what they do...I would recommend listening to these:

Elton might not have used very sophisticated chord changes within his songs, but his melodies (along with Bernie's lyrics) will stand the test of time.

 

Your great grandkids will be listening to Elton John songs, not Lady Gaga.

Ha! I was gonna comment that comparing Gaga to Elton John is a pretty huge stretch! I would compare her more to Madonna, she's Madonna 2.0 if anything.

 

Lady Gaga, while a talented vocalist, is a success at least as much for her ability to manipulate the media and her image as she is for her her musical talent. She is imo an ongoing piece of performance art, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way. She embodies the term "celebrity" in a way that very few have. She does this quite deliberately. Its not just coincidence that she shows up on the street in an outrageous hat with no pants on and a reporter with a camera just happens to be there!

Oh make no mistake, I was not comparing Gaga to Elton John talent wise; I was saying that she has the flamboyant style with a "I'm gonna be me, F the world" attitude. She is way more talented (not successful)than Madonna ever could have dreamed to be.
