I drove down to the range and was going to do some testing but the wind was straight into the mats and cranking 17mph with stronger gust. It was going to create some high spin numbers no matter what so I will get back out this weekend and run them thru the Mevo+

No worries. I’ve got time before making any switches, so whenever you get to it is perfectly fine. 😁

I want to know just as much. Haha. I have somewhat limited time with both the 4 and 5 dot and decide what I'm going to do with the Ventus Blue.

I finally got outside today. Wind was only 30mph so I said what the hell.

I mean if the pros can play in it… but I’m not a pro so, yeah. I do play in tournaments though for the VGA and have played in some nasty weather… Anyway, I took the 4, 5, and 6 dot out. The 6 may not be for me, more to come.
IMG_4099.jpeg.d5c00667e819136b4e931e02a0fb2730.jpeg

I hit both 4 and 5 dot well, but with the wind I couldn’t tell what it was doing. I was hitting in a left to right cross wind so everything had a right tail. But at launch to about 150 out the crappy range balls went straight. Some even tried a baby draw. I was the only crazy nut-job on the range so I turned 90 degrees and hit a few down wind (shhhh don’t tell the pro shop but a couple of their range balls are on hole 6).
IMG_4131.gif.cc92ed2d27497b34e11aa8c6fbe927fd.gif

Those balls were straight with both shafts. All the balls I hit in the sweet spot did go high. I’m seeing everyone have the same issue in the discussion, so I turned the trusty Ping down to a 7 1/2 degree. That made it hit like a 9 degree. The mis hits weren’t too terrible with either shaft. I don’t know, maybe… never mind.
IMG_4139.gif.1d2d5180f48a0a0ffb497d50a8b4cb5f.gif

Now I’m not getting any younger, so I have a dilemma. I like both shafts. So which one should I choose? I’m not quite in golf shape, just got over the China Virus, and hit both pretty well. I probably hit the 4 a tad better, but again, not in golf shape. I do have the rest of the week and am playing tomorrow so I guess I’ll figure it out. Right now I’m leaning 5. I may take them to the PGA Superstore along with my 425 LST and try them on the new 430. I am not a fan of the 425 so that could be a good down payment. Maybe I keep both. I am building a travel set and I don’t think I’m leaving Ping drivers soon. Although I could re-tip them, or ask Newton, I have options… More to come.

I guess you'll have to give them both another go! Why was 6dot out of the equation? Too low spinning?

I think I’m going to give it another go tomorrow on the range. I’m playing in Colorado where the wind is low so I’ll be able to see how each one performs without wind. The last time I hit it was in the wind. The weather has just been poop here. I emailed Angelo and Melodie and told them the plan.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Angelo and Melodie are the customer reps I am in contact with about the shafts. Great customer service. Angelo and I talked on the phone for 45 minutes about the shafts.

Any new updates on these shafts? Looking to hear some 5 dot reviews. Hit them good gents!!

I played today and didn't make it to the range with the Mevo+.

I changed up grip today and worked thru some things and started hitting the 5 dot great. I plan on hitting the range in the morning with the LM to get numbers.

UGGGGHHH!!!

The good, the bad, the ugly.

The good: I love the way these shafts feel.

The bad: I hate how high they go.

The ugly: I have to adjust my Ping 410 LST to the lowest loft to hit it like a 9 degree. I don't like that.

The 5 is the way to go for me. I can hit both the 4 and the 6, I hit the 4 better, the 6 does launch lower, but the 5 is in my wheelhouse. I didn't hit any draws with these shafts, I hit my baby fade with each one, or hit it dead straight. I'm fine with that. What I am not fine with is how high these balls go FOR ME. I played 18 holes today and finished MEH. If you were to ask me to choose right now, I would say no way FOR ME. The launch is not right for me. I am going to email Newton and have a conversation. If they can change the launch angle then I will probably get the 5. If they can't then I will say thank you, shaft feels good, but doesn't fit my swing. I don't have numbers, I don't have a launch monitor; sorry. I will let you all know what Newton has to say, but the shafts I have right now are going back to California.

What are you dropping loft to?  And honest question... what bothers you about that?  Are you not getting the results you want by dropping the loft?

I struggle with height so for me I have liked the ball flight. It's been penetrating but has the elevation I need.

Thank you for the feedback. I like you, already hit the ball plenty high. In fact, I am always looking to lower the launch and spin. The new PXG Black Ops I purchased: love the 3 wood and hybrids when I put the Hrzdus smoke shafts in them. However, the driver launches too high for me. That’s why I went back to the Callaway

Play like a champion today!

The new PXG Black Ops I purchased: love the 3 wood and hybrids when I put the Hrzdus smoke shafts in them. However, the driver launches too high for me. That’s why I went back to the Callaway

My Ping is a 9 degree standard and the lowest setting is 7 1/2. That is what I have to set it at to hit it like a normal 9 degree. I tried to go flat vs upright as well. Upright is the best setting for me, at 7 1/2 degrees with the Newton. I want to be able to adjust from 9 degrees either way based on a windy day in windy as eff Cheyenne Wyoming, so not having that adjustment is an issue for me. I talked to Angelo and am going to play the 6 on Sunday, weather permitting, and let him know. I am only playing the 6 dot. I have hit the 5 and 4 enough to know if we can fix the launch angle I would take the 5 dot.

On a side note, I went to Sheels after my round and hit a couple drivers just for the hell of it. I hated the new TaylorMade, the new Ping and the Callaway. I absolutely LOVED the Titleist TSR4. I was crushing it in the Tensi Black Xstiff 65 gram shaft. I also hit the Tensi Black stiff 65 gram shaft and didn't see much of a difference. I used to play the Tensi orange and blue, hated the white, but the black was fantastic. Oh, and I broke their Ventus 6X. The tip just came off; weird.

They didn't have the setup in stock, so I didn't buy one, but I was a good 20 yards longer than the 410 LST with the same ball placement, launch angle, ect and was hitting my baby fade better than the 410 LST. I was fitted for that club a couple months ago and if I had the money back then I would have bought it. I am going to get it as soon as I can find the set up in stock.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Fun to see this shaft get some attention. I am behind and need to read up in what everyone is doing with these, but plan to get setup here at the new place and behind testing again.

It's been a fun thread and testing these shafts out. Slightly varied results but that's to be expected.

I talked to Angelo last night. He’s aware of us so that’s kinda cool. He’s taking my experiences to his team, meanwhile the 6 dot is in the Ping 410 LST. May take the weight out to see if that changes anything. Did I mention how I was smoking the Titleist TSR4 at Sheels? I’m in love!

Any new updates on these shafts? Looking to hear some 5 dot reviews. Hit them good gents!!

Down here in southwest Florida for 10 days.  Played a fabulous Jack Nicklaus design, Old Corkscrew, located in Estero, FL.  Great track, pricey, disappointed with slow green speeds, but course conditions were immaculate.  It’s like winding through the Everglades while playing golf.  Anyhow, I was able to navigate this course to a 77 with a double bogey on the last hole, played the white tees at 6200 yards.  Target golf with tight driving lanes, and the Newton 4 dot was phenomenal for me.  Mostly straight tight draws with a low boring ball flight and significant carry advantages(I’m 62 yrs old and drove a 290 yard par 4 with very little roll out).  My swing speed is usually upper 90’s to low 100’s.  I may not have swung the driver easier or smoother but it sure felt like it.  On the longer par 4’s of 425 plus I routinely found myself with 8 iron or less into the greens.  My driver is a 9* PXG Black Ops Tour1, turned down 1/2*.  Love it.  Great combo with this Newton 4 dot shaft.  I might add that I switched my irons out over the winter from PXG to New Level 623MB’s with KBS Tour Lite shafts, and finding kind of an old school pure feel with those babies.  Anyhow, that’s my most recent report on the Newton 4 dot shaft.  Any day you make 5 birds is a good day, and yesterday was a lot of fun.

Just got done at the sim, still hit the steadfast better than the Newton. I was hitting the 5 and 6 today. I noticed that they're just a tad too long for me. There's only a half inch difference but I am hitting the ball high on the face and closer to the heel. I am talking to Angelo and seeing what he wants to do next. I am hoping that tipping the shaft and shortening it will make it all better. I hit the 6 best out of the three shafts the way they are set up right now. My swing speed is coming back, reached 104 today, and was consistent at 101-102. It takes a second to get the cobwebs out. I had my pro with me and he pointed out that I hit down more in the sim than on the course. Sim woes, I wrote a post about it. He also hit the Newton 5 and 6 and hit them well, but he hit the present I brought him even better, the Ventus blue Xstiff for the Aerojet. We played 13 holes and he kicked my rear by 8 strokes, even with my birdie on the first hole. We were just messing around having fun. I did swing the Paradym and the BRNR and even the 3 wood very well so I am excited about that. The 425 was a close second, and I never have been real good with that. But I think it likes the Newton shaft a little better than the 410. The BRNR and 3 wood had steadfast Jupiter 1 plus shafts in them. I put the Xstiff stock Ping shaft back in the 425. I just don't think the Newton shaft is right for me. I am waiting to see what Angelo wants to do. It was his idea to try the 6 again before moving to the next steps. Great customer service!
