Help with a hip

Recommended Posts

I play in a simulator league over the winter to make it through Buffalo winters. Last week during a wedge shot I pulled a muscle in my hip. No idea why other than being 73. I immediately quit and had it checked out. Told to be active so I have been. Sore as hell and swollen but bound and determined.  However...

Our season starts in earnest in 3 weeks and I am looking for some help with finding exercises that will help strengthen the muscle in the hip. The season is too short to miss any of it...period.

I know its been just a few days but there's no way I could swing a club with this weak of hip.

Still swinging!

A few years ago I hurt my back when I slipped on swing . Two holes later I couldn’t get the ball out of the hole and went home. Woke up the next day and could barely get out of bed. I had never had back pain like that in my life. My wife who has had 3 spinal fusion operations and goes through periods where her back acts up. She sets me up with an acupuncturist she used from time to time. I’m really not sure but he had helped her quite a bit so I go. My wife went with to see what it looked like since being her back she could never see what happened when he did the treatment. He puts in the needles and my wife said all these red lines went to the area in my back where the pain was. He also gave me some stretches for between treatments. After 5 treatments which was about 2 weeks I was back playing. It took 3 treatments before I felt relief. The next 2 just about knocked the pain out. I would look at doing it again if I ever hurt my back again.

I was seen by a Doctor at the Buffalo VA emergency room. No Xrays just an exam of motion, and resistance testing of muscles.

As a certified personal trainer if you were to come to me as a client I would refer you to a PT for an evaluation and then either let the PT clear you for exercise or if the PT felt you needed further medical clearance the PT would refer you out to a doctor/specialist to be cleared.

There are a a few or so exercises i would recommend someone to work on the hip but without a full medical clearance I won’t give any examples.

There are several pre has/rehab type YouTube channels that get into the exercises as well
