Is a mallet putter too big for your bag?

I have played blade style putters, either anser style or vintage 50's or 60's blades or bulls eyes all my life. I recently tried out a mallet style putter and thought it was pretty accurate. I put it in my bag and damn that thing takes up a lot of space. I use carry bag so it isn't the biggest bag but I just couldn't stand this giant putter in my bag.

 

Anyone else turned off from mallets simply because of how much room it takes up in your bag?

Nope, I'll go with whatever puts the ball in the hole.

 

That said with my last bag (Bagboy Revolver) I couldn't try anything bigger than a Superstroke 3.0 grip because it wouldn't fit in the hole.

it's mostly the grip size for me tht I have issues with, but I use a push cart mostly.  I tried to put a Cork Tree Stumpy on my putter  (SS fat sized), but it kept getting caught up in the slot, ( felt slightly too big anyway), so I swapped it out for a Gimme, which is the SS slim 2.0 size type but with a tapered end.

Did you ever think that maybe the Monster grips that you are putting on putters these days could be the problem?

Yeah, I don't use those giant putter grips because my regular sized grips make it tough to get clubs in and out of the bag sometimes.

I use either a Callaway HL5 or Ping Hoofer as my bag and no issue when I have the Futura X in the bag or any other mallet for that matter.

I always find it is grip size that plays the biggest role. Especially since I carry every time with a stand bag.

Man, I used one of those super grips; the big lite series to be specific. I had one of the giant ones, but I loved it on my old putter. The problem was that it actually got the outside leather stripped off of it because of the bag. I ripped it off potentially violating USGA rules if I used it again, but I'm always thinking about putting it on my new putter.
