Needed a new 3 wood. With review on here and price comparison this was a no brainer. It is very consistent for carry distance 248-255 in my testing, and is higher ball flight which suits my game.

I got the Honma Big-LB head only for $45 in fair condition, but with a swipe of the magic eraser it was like new. Shafted it with a Helium S staff I had and it is very easy to launch for a 14 degree 3w. Huge all Titanium head with a heavy steel sole and GREAT off the tee. Easy to Launch high off the deck as well. Long.
This auction if interested.

Also found a great deal on a Black/camo Jones stand Bag locally. When I picked it up there were 4 Sunfish Headcovers and 3 Golf Pride chorded Tour Velvet grips and a pro-v1 valuables/ball bag in there. Contacted him and he told me to discard it. I did not.

UNCRoss reacted to azstu324 in DIY Gloss to Matte finish
Recently I had come across a post about redoing a gloss finish into matte. I had posted in the club ho page but @cnosilwas kind enough to point me in the right direction to this DIY section. I'm afraid this might soon become my favorite part of MGS as I'm a true DIY nerd and there are a ton of cool ideas in here.
As I had mentioned in the other forum, I had somehow managed to swing my Cobra Radspeed hybrid into the chain on my garage door.. oof. Total McFly moment 😖. Needless to say it did a number on the crown of my club. I've loved the Radspeed hybrid so it was a hard pill to swallow when it happened. Well I managed to put my OCD aside for a little while and continue to play the club with the wounded top.
Recently I fell deep down the rabbit hole of DIY gloss to matte paint refinishing and found some really cool stuff out there. Here are some instructions that I've "borrowed" from another site that seemed to work beautifully
I followed it up with a couple of coats of this stuff
And here are my results
I'm pretty stoked about the outcome. The pic on the left is from the Internet. I wish I would have taken a pic before when it had the chain marks. It was pretty gnarly looking. In my eyes this is a whole new club.

Not so much what I bought as what I did. I just didn't know where else to share it 😜
I love the Cobra Radspeed hybrid! When I first set up my garage practice area, I wasn't sure which direction to hit without hitting the garage door tracks or chain. Well one day I ended up hitting the garage door chain and it really messed up the top of the club. I was gutted. I like the club so much that I just have continued to use it with the nasty battle damage on top.
Well yesterday I found myself deep down a DIY rabbit hole and managed to do this
If you look really closely you can still barely see the scratches but it's a night/day difference. I'm actually loving the matte black look and to keep almost "looks" like a brand new club.
Used to look like this before the scars were added.

I just bought a ping g425 3 hybrid. I didn't believe it when people said ping clubs were so easy to hit, but they are!
I'm on the hunt for a ping 2 hybrid and 3 wood now!

UNCRoss reacted to Tom the Golf Nut in How'd you play?
Got a round in today with my son and my brother-in law (Tim). It turned out to be perfect golf weather. Slight breeze, sunny and 77 degrees. The greens were rolling well and hitting the fairway would reward you with some decent rollout as the fairways are going dormant. My son struggled on the front 9 but got things figured out on the back. Tim and I were steady. The scores were different but we both shot the same score on the front and the back. I was 36-36 and Tim was 44-44.
Good company and good golf on a nice day. What else can you ask for.
The only negative part of the day was my wife and my sister-in-law went shopping while we were playing. Women can do a whole lot of damage in 5 hours.😳

UNCRoss reacted to Kenny B in How'd you play?
Well, as I posted in the Good Morning thread today, this was my first round after GHIN closed in our area until March 1. I felt pretty good, but it was a chilly 39º and cloudy but no wind. I was still cold!! My wife and I played with two friends of ours that had a tee time at 8:21... 15 minutes before ours.
I made it through the front nine in a usual for me 41 (+4). I even had a birdie on the par 5 #5 hole (on in regulation). It's been a long time since I have been on that green in regulation. Fairways are drier and ground is getting firmer so more distance!! 😃
Starting on #9, my swing was a lot more fluid and the short game was working. Shot 34 (-1) with another birdie on our risk/reward Par 4 #14. Since everything was working well and there was no wind, I decided to go for the green. I usually don't go for the green unless I have a tailwind and the tee box is near the front of the teeing ground. It wasn't but the pin was favorably located for a shot short in the bunker, which was where I ended up... sandy tap-in birdie!! 🤩. I also had sandy pars on #13 and #18.
Score today was 75 and a great-for-me 11 GIR, but I did miss a few makable birdie putts. It was nice to record another sub-age round this year, especially under less than ideal temperatures. Let's see what happens tomorrow when we have a little rain tonight followed by winds 15-20 with gusts to 35mph.

UNCRoss reacted to Golf2Much in SEASON 2 - WEEK 33 MYGOLFSPY FORUM MEMBER WEEKLY VIRTUAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR (VCT)
Date 11/18/2023 Course Name Key West Golf Club Gross Score 83 Course Handicap 13 Gross Strokes over/under par 13 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 70 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 181 SIM Round Overall, it was a solid round today. We had anywhere between 10-14 inches of rain in the Keys on Wednesday with spotty rain on Thursday and Friday. So, the course was wet and played longer than usual. Add in about a 20 mph wind and the course was a challenge today!
A decent driving round as far as fairways hit. However the lack of roll, yielded shorter drives than I'm accustomed to. Still, 79% fairways hit is pretty good with a couple of misses only a foot or two into the rough. The greens in regulations wasn't very good. My irons really didn't heat up until three-quarters of the way through the round. Four up and downs are about right and only 26 putts hide most of my iron accuracy issues. Nine one putts and no three putts really allowed me to score better than I should have. The two putts I had were also mostly within 1 foot, so my speed was pretty good today. The extra time I've been spending in my backyard putting green has seemed to help. I did chip in from the back fringe on our par three 16th hole. It was the only birdie in the men's league today!
It's strange to see that I averaged whole numbers on my par three, fours and fives today.

Got a Cobra King Vintage Sport-60 putter for next to nothing, in great condition minus a mark on the sik face insert. From what I can tell, and read online it shouldn't effect performance at all. Have been wanting a blade style to mess around with, and I love how the hosel flows into the head on this putter. Maybe could use a little extra length on the shaft (34" currently), and not a huge fan of the grip so might tinker with that.

UNCRoss reacted to Lacesr4suckers in Any 8+ handicaps that play Ping i230 irons?
Most of my golfing life I’ve been a 16-20 hdcp. Last year I was a 17. Decided to put some more time and effort into golf so I got fitted for irons this spring. Went there expecting to get fitted into g425s or jpx hot metal or something game improvementish but was surprised when the i230s ended up being the winner. I had been gaming rocketbladez from 10 years ago so anything would be an upgrade but the i230s have been great for me. I’ve played a ton of golf this summer and a lot of work on the range but I still occasionally use the entire face of the club and I definitely notice my poor strikes don’t end up as terrible a result as I probably deserve. I’m fairly steep with my irons and these don’t dig unless I completely chunk one. I’m confident in the i230s hitting my number when I make a decent swing and rarely hit a flier or fall short. I’m still not as strong in my approach game as my driving and chipping but that’s a me thing not a club issue. Played at a 10-11 hdcp since early summer and will definitely be keeping the i230s in the bag next year

Sounds like the S159 is the replacement for the glide series. Going back to a bit more of a traditional shape. Definitely a cleaner look too.
