  1. The physics is definitely interesting. You can go lighter and faster to a point that there isn't enough mass to generate the ball speed or you can go heavier (increase mass) and slower and get more ball speed until you get too slow. Always tradeoffs that need to be figured out by the golfer. Are you thinking of a driver change or just playing?
  2. Let me know where you are marshalling or when you are working. I will be scoring everyday and would love to say hello. The walking scorer group is pretty consistent year after year but they do get a few new people every year. Gotta get signed up quick especially since returning volunteers get to sign up early. I started as a standard bearer and that is a great committee as well; even sub for them when they are short. The only reason I switched was because adults only work 2 days of the tournament.
  3. I don't think there is really an issue doing that since we really don't know the metric that will be to determine the winner.
  4. Interesting strategy; play a bunch of rounds and then figure out which one to enter.
  5. It is definitely all relative. When you can't break 100 you say you would be happy to score in 90s; until you do. When in the 90s you want 80s and then 70s and then 60s. It becomes even more frustrating when your scores go the other way since you still feel like you can play better.
  6. Hate greens like that. There are a few with similar features that really challenge you if you are on the wrong part of the green.
  7. I had 2 of 5 make it to the weekend. Not optimistic that I will get any wins as I am losing all but 1 of my matchups.
  8. You play your round and enter your score. At the end, they will announce the metric that use for scoring and who wins. The only hint we have is that it has to do with putting. Any course (18 holes), any location.
  9. I have used launch monitor data to improve. Haven’t seen a drop in handicap yet as the improvements have revealed issues in other areas. I would also say the use of launch monitor numbers will vary significantly based on the skill of the player and what you are trying to change. For someone looking for large changes vs changes in degrees a launch monitor may or may not be necessary. I have used launch monitor data to send/review information to my coach as baseline information to support the video or in person lessons. While not chasing specific numbers, we show for example that my face is closed to the patch, my aoa aid too steep, or I need to have more shaft lean and I can use a launch monitor to check the numbers myself instead of trying to interpret divots or setting up aids. I don’t use on course stat trackers to assess weaknesses. I use basic stats like is a tee shot playable, approach distance, GIR/nGIR, and putting distances, chipping/pitching distances. My coach has provided me with expectations for proximity to the hole for different distances. From there it is easy to assess where I need to work. But for players looking to understand bag makeup and actual club distancing those devices are ideal. there great think about these types of tools is that they can capture a significant amount of data. However, if you don’t understand the numbers, chase specific numbers, or don’t know how to interpret the numbers you may practice or work on incorrect aspects of your game.
  10. It isn’t the leaderboard. When you are setting up your round there is a “tour event” drop down. For ther you can select The next event.
  11. I applaud the effort as that can be a fairly difficult task without the right tools. Can’t get better at something until you try. My feedback is don’t get discouraged and keep trying. You can’t learn until you try.
  12. Continuing to work on my game. There are definitely some bright encouraging things: Shot 2 over for 9 holes during league match. Ball striking and distance off the tee were both really good played a 2 over front nine before totally falling apart on the back. short game shots have definitely improved. Need to focus on distance control by better understanding ball release. Pitch shots are now going past the hole instead of short due to poor contact. hitting the ball the best I have in a long time during my most wanted testing sessions. Have even struggled with hitting too far toward the heel. Exchanged some emails and provided round statistics to my coach and decided an intervention is needed. Going to have an in person lesson tomorrow to work on ball striking. While I try to avoid tips, I think that just reading or hearing them influences my swing. Time for a reset to what I need to work on. My though right now is I need to control face angle better and understand how to hit the center of the club face. I want to wear our the center of the face and not the toe area outside the grooves. I think I am close and just need some input on things to tighten up to have a little better control over 18 holes.
  13. Fantasy golf is so frustrating. I really thought I had a good core of players and do good weekly substitutions but can manage to get many weekly wins. I just don’t have the vision that some of our trade geniuses have to think three trades down the road. I look at my players and where they stand but I just can’t figure out the right strategy. I know, it isn’t supposed to be easy but it needs to be easier
  14. You can do this! Hopefully it will inspire me to get back to working out. I know I should and I need to lose the COVID/work from home 15 but am lacking the motivation.
  15. What @Tom the Golf Nut says is the way handicaps work. Playing within 3 strokes of your handicap is playing really good golf; you are not supposed to shoot your handicap every round as it measures potential. Sometimes handicaps don’t travel because peoples misses are less penal on a course they normally play; which sounds like your scenario. The caps are in place to prevent people from tanking a few rounds to increase their handicaps significantly before a match. you post indicates you are a very competitive person; my advice would be to try and enjoy the course, time with your playing partners, and spend some time working on improving your game
  16. I know it doesn’t help now, but this is why external backups are so important for things you cannot lose. Hopefully this isn’t too costly of a learning experience.
  17. The top balls in the market; like the proV line, will perform the best at any swing speed. But you may also want to consider price, how many you lose, what you are looking for in a ball, etc. what confused you about the reviews? id look at ProV1, Snell, Kirkland.
  18. Interesting question. My guess is that it is because in sports that have hated teams the team is “built” while golf is individual. Owners of pro teams spend money to attract the best players and build the wining team. Colleges are paid based on TV exposure and boosters build the best facilities to attract the best players. Golfers can come from anywhere and their success is largely driven by individual talent and desire. fundamentally i think it comes down to team vs individual sports.
  19. Look good, the bigger question is how do the work?
  20. Don't need to go back to the tee. My group plays the local rule that was added regarding OB; we drop and take a two stroke penalty. My golf league does the same thing.
  21. To me the decision was logical based on sound reasoning. Your opinion is that it isn't logical. The belief that something is overly harsh is also an opinion. Everyday people make decisions by applying logic to a situation and there isn't a requirement for 100% agreement. I can name things in today's world that I believe are overly harsh. My opinion is that you could have approached this thread a whole different way and gotten the type of feedback you were looking for. My opinion is that you just like to create controversy and I say that because I have asked if you agree with potential changes and you ignore that aspect of the post and focus on things that perpetuate the controversy. So lets look at this a different way. You want the rules to look like this: OB is an area of the golf course that is marked in a way to indicated to the player that they cannot play their ball from that area. If you hit a ball OB then the player has several options. 1. Stroke and Distance. 2. Drop two club lengths from the point where the ball crossed OB and take a 1 stroke penalty. Red Staked Penalty Area: The person has the following options from a penalty area. 1. Play the ball as it lies. 2. Stroke and Distance. 3. take it back on a line of relief by going back as far as you want one the line between the hole and where you crossed. 4. lateral relief and drop two club lengths from where the ball crossed the hazard line and take a 1 stroke penalty. Fundamentally we have 2 different penalty areas but there are different options and the penalties are the same. While I don't think there is any more "logic" applied to the change, it doesn't make the game "better", and it doesn't change the "fairness" of the game but I believe it captures how you would want the rules to read. While I don't think a change is necessary, I would be fine with this type of change. Would that meet your criteria for how the rules should be written?
  22. What is valid logic??? Logic is looking at the various arguments and making a determination based on the information. Explain why the rule is unfair; using the ball at the bottom of a lake isn't a valid reason as it is simply a penalty area and if conditions allow it can be played. Why is it illogical to treat areas of a golf course differently and have different penalties. Stroke and distance is an option for a penalty area. If the local rule that allowed the player to drop at the point it crossed OB was made an official rule you would be fine with the 2 stroke penalty? If that is your position I am fine with that rule change.
  23. hoping for a quick recovery. Wives should definitely listen to husbands....occasionally.
