  1. I bought myself a new meat thermometer for smoking and the US Open Superstroke pistol 1.0 grip. Wife doesn't know it yet so I'll give them to her tonight to wrap for me from the kids.
  2. 166 for me and it's because i have 4 players that haven't tee'd off yet and are still marked as even
  3. Nothing too exciting, but I bought a shaft extension. Had the stock HZRDUS yellow laying around that came in my driver so I'm going to test out a 47" setup and see what the hubbub is about.
  4. Now that I've made my picks it would be safe to not place any money on any of my selections if past performance in these things is any sort of indicator.
  5. We have 4 sets of markers with usually 3 tee boxes. Silvers are their own box way up, greens are their own box way back. Then gold and black are usually on the same box but one forward and one back. We also have one par 3 with two green they will rotate between and one par 3 with two complete sets of tee boxes. One on the right the same elevation as the hole and one on the left that is up on a hill above the hole. So there can be quite a difference day to day on how some holes play. But to be more specific to your question, we also have two combo variations that have been rated so you can enter valid scores for handicap purposes. One uses a combination of only the 2 most forward set of tees. Usually used for seniors and really young kids that makes the course much shorter. Then we also have a combo setup we occasionally use for mens league that will use all four boxes on various holes. It's a ton of fun because it brings in a couple driveable par 4's, lengthens a couple par 3's and turns one of our par 5's into a par 4. I live on the course so I play 99% of my rounds at the same place. It's fun to be able to mix it up from time to time and still enter scores for handicaps. Another game we play is start at the tips, if nobody makes a birdie we move up a box on the next hole, no birdie again move up another box etc until you are just playing from the most forward box. If someone makes a birdie move back to the tips and start the process again.
  6. Congrats on the retirement Rob! I gotta say it's pretty fun to just come and go as you please and not feel the pressure to always be posting and around. Hopefully you enjoy the extra work in the day job!
  7. It's one thing to have a 4.5hr round with an afternoon tee time on a packed course. If you are the 2nd group out and play in 4.5 you are setting up the course for 5hr+ rounds by the end of the day. Sure maybe it could have been communicated better, but from the sounds of it your buddies were all playing pretty damn decent. There is zero reason for a guy to shoot anywhere under 90 and take longer than 4hrs as a foursome. I can guarantee the twosome behind you was either waiting and you didn't realize it, or purposely playing slow because they didn't want to sit around and wait for every shot. Sorry but I'm siding with the course on this one. 10 minute tee time spacing is plenty of gap and 200 rounds in a day is busy, but for this time of year with longer days it can go higher.
  8. Started with an Odyssey 10 I bought over the winter but have since switched back to the Odyssey red #7. SLDR is currently out of the bag and I'm gaming a TSi4. Both have Ventus black. I will say that SLDR is never far from coming back in though so we will have to wait and see with that one.
  9. The other question to ask is what is your iron set makeup? Do you already go all the way to the 11 iron (gap wedge)? Personally I'd try to spend a little time with each iron you play and figure out what distances they are going. After that you can look at the top end of he bag and plot out what distances you want to fill between your longest iron and your driver. If you are hitting it farther you might only have 1-2 clubs that fill a needed gap there. Then you can look at the bottom end of the bag and figure out what distances you want a full swing to go and then it's just a matter to finding the lofts that will fit that distance. I don't think I heard this said yet either, but make sure it wasn't a one shot only type of situation, and that it wasn't hotter than normal and down wind. From the sounds of it though I'll just add congrats on the new found distance, and a preemptive congrats on the new woods and/or wedges you will be getting
  10. Not sure if this is a special weird case, but in general a heat gun on low just to soften up the tape and glue and then peal off. If you have sticky gunk left on it after the tape is gone try getting some Goo Gone. Spray it on and let it sit a minute then wipe off with paper towels. Might have to work on it for a little bit.
  11. You are literally posting this on the forum for the one place on the internet that offers independent, data driven, un-biased testing of golf equipment. If you are already here I don't think you need to travel or link to a different site to find the best performing golf equipment for any category. So my suggestion? Go visit the main page and read the most wanted articles. Palm Springs Golf is not going to be in the conversation.
  12. That was one of my favorites, the only bad part is only 3 books were out when I first read it, so had to wait around 15 years to finish the series.
  13. I've read all the Mitch Rapp and Gray Man books, both are fantastic. Also check out Brad Thor and Brad Taylor, both have great series with the same main character and are along the lines of Gray Man and Rapp
  14. I'm a huge reader, mostly fantasy or spy/military thriller. Currently working through Daniel Silva (Gabriel Allon series), just finished the new Andy Weir book Project Hail Mary. Before than I read the newest Jack Carr book and re-read Tom Clancy Without Remorse for like the 15th time. Then there are a bunch of series I'm just patiently waiting for the next book to come out.
  15. Sorry, I'm choosing to ignore the initial rule.... By far "Will this specific shaft help my swing? or a variation of which high end shaft is best for me?"
  16. Like mentioned above there is not going to be a program that you input your specs and it spits out the ideal settings for your driver. Once you figure out your average club head speed then take that times 1.5 to find your theoretical max ball speed. Then use the link that Jlukes post above and play around with various launch and spin number to find the max distance that ball speed is going to travel. Once you have the ball speed, launch and spin numbers it's really up to you to mess around on a launch monitor and try various settings to see which combo comes closest to those numbers. If you are happy with the ball flight and shape of your current driver and are getting close the approx distance you should be getting then congratulations, you are well fit and a new club isn't going to do a whole lot for you. If you are unhappy with any of those things then I would recommend heading to a quality fitter and see if you can find some extra yards with a new club setup.
  17. The setup is finally here. 2 rounds in so far and shows great promise!
  18. I like the drop down, I'd leave it as an option there. Might be nice to also have it in the Testers Wanted section pinned to the top though. I can see lots of people navigating there just because it's visible without hovering over a menu option. Or once it's not used anymore bury the old forum section and just place the link for the new one in it's place.
  19. Where is this located within the forum? I can click the link above to get there and I saw it posted on the forum Twitter account, but I don't actually see it when just trying to navigate the forum through the menu's.
  20. For a player of your caliber I'm guessing this is mostly a "thinking out loud" post to talk through the decision process I'm guessing that's a typo in point 3 where you say 5w is a 172 carry, guessing that should be 9w? Have you tried choking down a couple inches with a 3/4 swing to take off 5 yds? I've had good luck with that over the past year once I committed to it. For the top end I'm guessing you just need to get on a monitor and tinker. I'm assuming you've already tried the 3w that matches the rest of your woods? Maybe even a 4w (or 3hl) could be an option?
  21. I guess the answer depends on if you care if a random single gets inserted in to the group? Also best course of action would probably be ask the course when you make the tee times, even if it's a rotation of 12 courses if it's a place you play with any frequency you don't want to be that guy.
  22. How about S300 hard stepped once or maybe even twice then?
  23. Thanks guys, rain held off and got to play 18 so it was a great birthday!
  24. I've been waiting for this one, thanks for putting it together!! Also was this the easiest Tier 6 pick we've ever had for a major?
