I use charcoal lighter fluid and use just a little bit on the mouth of the grip. Putter grips I put the grip on on the vise and then put it in my jig fixture on the floor and hold it square and adjust if needed. Charcoal lighter fluid is cheap and evaporates fast. I have literally slid a grip on and walked out to the door right then and hit balls into my net

I put all of my grips on using air.  Putting some grip solvent in the end right before install really helps.  It gives you a little bit of time after the grip is on to do some small adjustments to alignment.  The downside is you can't play with the club right away.

For the past few years I have been struggling steeping the shaft in transition.  No matter what my body would not let the club head fall behind me in transition.  After using the plane mate a couple weeks my body was finally able to feel the correct move.  After the first few weeks it has been much easier for me to work on drills that help me to not steepen the shaft in transition.  I still have a ton of practice to do but am moving in the right direction.
If you have a flat back swing and then steepen the shaft in transition this is a good training aid.  It is pricey but about the cost of two lessons.  There is no way a pro would have been able to stop this fault in my swing in the first two sessions.

... Played with someone today that was visiting Hilton Head from Pittsburg and it was his first round in SC. He kept hitting his chip shots a hair fat and the velcro like bermuda grass was grabbing the club and advancing his ball a few inches only. I was having a hard time judging the swirling winds on an unfamiliar course so unfortunately I had lots of chipping opportunities. I was getting my chips close but actually chipped in a 2nd time midway thru the back 9 and Steve asked me how in the heck are you chipping so well when you play bent grass at home just like me!?!? I told him the technique is the same, you just have to add a little more speed and put contact is a must. But I also gave him a refresher on chipping basics before the tip that changed his chipping.

... Start with the ball just inside your back foot so your club head is descending into the ball. Make sure you have your with on your front foot and your hips are leaning forward with a slightly open stance.  I prefer to see at least 70% of the weight on the front foot but you can use how ever much is comfortable between 60% and 90%. Like most things in golf both hands equally is best, but you can use the leading hand more than the trailing hand if that helps you. It is a pulling of the club head forward, not a pushing motion so pulling mostly with the lead hand is perfectly OK and if you have been pushing with your rear hand, I would highly recommend using more lead hand until you get comfortable pulling the club head with both hands. If you have a lot of feel, I like to see some hinging of the wrists on the backswing and slight unhinging into the ball but no release, just a hit and hold. That said, keeping your wrists still with little or no hinging works well for those not blessed with good feel. So that covers the basics.

... If you have the basics down but still struggle with consistent contact, here is a drill for you. Look at the front of the ball only, and attempt to hit the front of the ball with your club head, not the rear or center of the ball. This should do two things. 1) Stop you from scooping from the rear attempting to get the club head under neath the ball and 2) create a slightly descending blow into the ball which is the key to solid contact. Many of you that struggle with chipping will be surprised how much better your contact is when focusing on and hitting only the front of the ball. Give it a try and I hope this helps!

... I have posted this before but it is mind boggling what the brain is capable of doing if you just let it. Much like walking down a rocky path, you look ahead and allow your brain to tell your feet where to step. Putting can be very similar. Granted I have always had a good feel for putting but I think part of the reason is trust. I just allow my brain to take in the slope and line, then just think about what speed I need to get the ball to the hole.

... I do not putt to a spot nor do I envision my exact line. It is more of a zen like approach where I just allow my brain to take in the information and then I just stroke the putt. I rarely 3 putt or miss on the low side, although my brain tends to see more break than is there when I miss a putt. I am also a die putter and that makes it easier to let my brain see the line because it has a destination not an interim target where a miss will roll 18" past, which I admit would be ideal for rolling thru anomalies and the "volcano cup" late in the day but alas I just can't putt that way.

... I would strongly suggest everyone try this method a few times if you struggle with line or speed. Before your round starts or when practicing, just drop a few balls on the practice green and take a cursory look at a few different holes at varying lengths, then putt to each of them not concentrating on line or speed just look at the overall putt, and then just putt with absolutely no care as to what happens. Many will be surprised at how close they come to holing putts and many of my students the had gotten too technical were freed up and started putting so much better. It isn't for everyone but it is worth a shot if you are struggling.

I’m headed out to LA to take two lessons from him in a few months.  I’m not expecting him to work miracles, I just want to feel what he’s talking about and hear his teaching cues in person.  It’s definitely not like me to do something like this, but I’m absolutely pumped.  I’ll report back afterwards if interested.  I’m also excited to see his new website.

... There's a billion things I would rather do than sit thru a podcast, especially the MGS guys. But I did watch/listen to the latest ball issue because I am interested in their findings, if not their opinions about those findings. That said, at least Tony mused that the Vice ball is just misleading not an inferior product. Foremost the ball producer, has their own R&D team and produce a very playable ball. They went on to say they are not telling anyone not to play the ball, just know they are simply buying balls from a catalog that others buy from and have the exact same ball with another name on it.

... I have said before I do not have a problem with marketing and hyperbole as the two go hand in hand. But that is only as long as they are just engaging in typical capitalism perhaps misleading hype, not out right lying to me. Lets just say for arguments sake that Foremost has a run that does not meet QC and sells them at a discount. Would Vice buy these because the average high index player can't tell the difference and they could make more money? Of course we don't have the answer to that question but lie to me once and I simply do not trust you.

... And for me at least, I will always choose to support the guys that do the right thing. Do their own R&D, their own QC and produce their own ball. Will Vice/Cut have 2 out of 12 ball with a defect? 4 out of 12? Even 1 out of 12 is too many for me. I simply want to reward the guys like Snell or the OEMs that put in the work from start to finish and produce the best ball they can. One of the awesome things about living in a free country is anyone is free to sell a ball even if they have no idea how they are made and you are free to buy them. It is all about personal choice and the MGS ball series is just helping you be informed.

7-iron swing sequence from a recent range session. Amazing how much progress I've made this year. Still taking the club back a bit inside though. Misses lately have been blocked right or hooky as a result. Something to focus on during my next session.
According my Swing Caddie, this particular swing was 169-yard carry.

mooremikea reacted to MHernandez1914 in Swing speed increases using only simple drills
    Hi all,
So 2 months ago i decided i need to try and up my swing speed. I’m not exactly sure what my club head speed was at the time but i was averaging around 145 mph ball speed (so around a 102ish club head speed if my SF was 1.45). I had been looking at some training aides (super speed golf, golf stick pro, tour tempo, etc.)  but didn’t really have to $$ to spend. However, i figured, if i do the exercises and movements that they promote, i would surely get some benefit out of it. So i started a training routing, 3-4 times a week, using only my driver. The training goes as follows:
Do all exercises both right handed and left handed. Focus on a good tempo and use of body mechanics but swing out of my shoes
1 - Regular stance, full super fast swing
2 - Feet together Stance, full super fast swing
3 - Start with feet together, take your back swing, step out, swing
4 - Regular stance, bring backswing to left arm parallel, then hit the downswing
5 - Leading hand on grip, trailing hand half way down the shaft, Start with feet close, skip forward twice, back swing on the first skip, down swing on the second
6 - Regular stance width, but you are swinging on your knees

Using these exercises  i have seen my have seen a pretty dramatic increase in club head speed. I was at a roger Dunn the other day, and was able to use a GC Quad that also detected club head data. My normal course swing speed was now 107-110 mph and when i stepped on it i could push it to 112 mph. My average ball speed was also 155 mph, and I broke into the low 160s once or twice. Not bad gains for only using my driver and simple exercises. The left handed swing (my weaker side) was definitely awkward at first and still is (probably doesn’t help that I’m swinging the club baackwards) however it is less so and I can feel a definite improvement in body coordination. I also i feel that i am using more of my body as an engine and whip whereas before i felt like i was all arms.
So i thought i would share this info with you all, maybe it’ll help some of you all who are looking for some speed gains. Also, I want note that I am not saying that the swing speed products are not needed or anything like that, but that gains can be made other ways. I personally and still looking to buy either the swing speed sticks or the tour tempo speedball power module. I’m hoping these will help me push my club head speed into the high teens and ball speed into the mid/high 160s. So hope this info helps and some people give it a go. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Gorgeous photo. Wish I had time to get down there. I’ve settled for Hidden River Golf and Casting Club, Charlevoix Country Club, and possibly a Boyne Course this week.

Then Rum Pointe, Great Hope, and maybe Captains Cove a few times while on the Eastern Shore.

Played there last summer.  It is a great layout that is challenging but also fair.  Bring your "A" putting game for the greens they are faster than what I am used to with quite a bit of slope.  When in doubt the putt will break toward Lake Michigan.   The groups I have played in hit a water ball into Lake Michigan on the number 12 tee box that has a large drop off overlooking the lake.

mooremikea reacted to KCLeo12 in 2019 Official Forum Member Review-Bettinardi Arm Lock Putter
First, some apologies that my testing and review has taken longer than I have ever intended. This also has been the most difficult review that I have ever done. I had my biggest tournament of the year which was 9 rounds in 10 days. I would rather take an extra couple days and get you guys the honest and best review I can do. However, I have put this putter through its paces and given it the full treatment. I have been struggling with separating my feelings about the style of the putter and the actual putter.

LOOKS: 10 out of 10 – This is a great looking putter as most Bettinardi putters are. The compact round head that frames the ball fantastic. The matte or brushed finish provides great contest to the green and the shiny ball. It reduces glare and really allows you to focus on the ball. I found that the alignment and the framing of the face allowed me to easily align the ball in the center of the face and I have a tendency to get the ball more towards the toe.

SOUND AND FEEL: 10 out of 10 – The sound and feel are perfect in my opinion. It is soft but of firm feel the shorter putts feel a little softer and the long putts feel firmer. For me this was something I really like because on longer putts with a softer feel and sound I feel like I have to hit them harder. It has a great sound also the has a firm click to it on longer putts and just a nice smooth sound on the shorter putts

BASIC CHARACTERISTICS: 18 out of 20. There isn’t anything as far as the putter it self goes that isn’t great about this putter. The only thing I found was that the putter didn’t easily sit flat on the ground when you set it down to align it. I had to develop a different pre-shot routine to get this putter to aim consistently. I will go more into detail about that later. The grip is the only reason this putter itself doesn’t get a score of 20 for this category. I felt the grip was too short, when I gripped the putter in a comfortable position on my right thumb was at the very end of the grip. More about this later also.

ON COURSE PERFORMANCE: 23 out of 30 – So this is the part of the review that I struggle with because half of the review is the putter and the other half is the Arm-Lock style of putting. I loved the putter itself and the style I just couldn’t get along with. I wanted to love it and had a very hard time letting go. My first round was phenomenal I shot a 68 and made everything. Unfortunately that was the last of the success I had with this putter on the course. I played 8 rounds total with this putter. And what I did was track those 8 rounds vs the previous 8 rounds that I played before the review.

In the 8 previous rounds I averaged 30.2 putts per round which is about average for me. The 8 rounds I played with the SS38 Arm-Lock was 36.3 putts per round. My scoring average was 3.4 strokes higher also. But part of the increase in putts is because I started hitting the ball better and averaging 2 GIR more per round during the 8 rounds. That is why the 6 stokes difference in putts per round only equated to 3.4 in scoring average.

    http://

Most of my struggle came from distance control on long putts of more than 30 ft. I had a tough time getting the speed right. I was consistently long and really struggled on faster greens or downhill putts because I felt like I had no feel. I felt just mechanical not smooth.

    http://

MISCELLANEOUS: 9 out of 10 – The details in the putter are fantastic from the beautiful blue paint to the extremely high quality headcover. I loved the headcover design and feel although I really prefer a magnetized headcover vs the Velcro. The putter was built and shipped quickly in a great high-class looking black box. The grip was actually my least favorite part of the putter and I plan on replacing it and seeing if this makes any difference for me.

    http://

PLAY IT OR TRADE IT: 12 out of 20 – This score is 100% based off the arm-lock style of putting and has zero to do with the putter or the quality of the putter. There is absolutely no chance this putter in its current set up makes it in the bag. I have ordered a JumboMax putter grip with a flat side that I think will really make a difference. I think the flat side against the arm with make it more consistent against my arm.

CONCLUSION: The armlock putter style is not something you can just tinker with and have success. I think you have to be professionally fit for this putter style in order to get the specs right so that you are comfortable and able to get in the same position every time. For me after the first day it was never able to get completely comfortable over the ball again. I have bought a different grip and plan to get fit properly for this putter because I do see some benefits in the style of putting if you commit to it and get fit properly.
FINAL SCORE: 82 out of 100
