  1. Are you all using your top numbers for the week or are you using an average of your top numbers from each day?

We are tracking our top numbers from each week and putting them in our charts. I went back over my book that I use to record daily and saw that the averages for each day work out to about 1-3 mph different.

  2. @JonBrittan if I'm not mistaken, the theory behind the early training has to do with your mind being more receptive to the reprogramming that the over speed training is trying to accomplish. According to SuperSpeed, we are working our minds as much as our bodies toward the goal of learning we can swing faster. I tend to train later in the day because I am usually up before 4 a.m. and the only thing I'm receptive to is more coffee.

@KennyB you are tougher than I am. Playing when it's below freezing, I guess that's what being from the Northwest will do for you.

On to the weekly wrap up,

    20181207_192951.jpeg

Had a pretty good week, highlighted by a 113 mph swing with my medium club during a step change.
    rps20181207_192456.jpeg

Honestly, I seem to get along with that club more than my lightest club recently.

I did have to change my schedule this week to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because of inclement weather last week that made me end week 9 on Saturday. Like Kenny, I'm doing this all outdoors. I have a feeling my neighbors think I'm crazy standing in front of my house at 7 p.m. swinging a club. I use a light to help illuminate the radar as it's usually in my shadow.

    rps20181207_192519.jpeg

I also hit 100 mph for the first time left handed with my heaviest club. I'm pretty proud of that.

I was hoping to play this weekend, but the chance for rain is running close to 100 percent this weekend.

  3. Sgold7, revkev, or sounds like you both put on a couple of good rounds this week and are showing the benefits of SuperSpeed training. That's awesome guys!

My week 10 training got off to a fantastic start, with highs of 110, 108, and 107. I was even able to break 100 with my non-dominant side in three of my protocols. The 108 and 107 were both with the regular swing, also. That had me pretty excited.

Since we're getting cooler weather here in Tennessee, I went this weekend and bought a pair of WinterSof gloves to help keep the hands warm and a good grip on my clubs. I like them, so far. They'll get put to a good test tomorrow night when it's going to be in the 30's. rps20181204_211221.jpeg.96d7241e3e9687e096917f34080f9662.jpeg

I was able to hit the range and work on the ballooning issue I had. I figured I was using more of an iron swing with the driver, causing me to hit down on the ball. A little adjustment in the takeaway and it was a lot better.

  4. Y'know, it's interesting to hear about the swing issues during the program, as your body is adapting to swinging in a slightly different way without the ball/turf being in the way of your swing. I had that same issue one year when I did a lot of swinging inside during the winter, where I intentionally wasn't hitting the floor since it was just swing practice. It took me a good 3-4 range sessions in the spring to finally get things back to "normal".
It has been a challenge to maintain good contact, especially with the irons. I try to get one range session in a week with a heavy focus on making contact with the ground in front of the ball.

I'll start at the range working on short chips: weight forward, hands in front of the ball, and crisp contact. I have had a problem with the first couple of full wedges where I'm visited by the spirit of El Hosel and the shot goes way right.

I've always had a problem taking a divot in front of the ball, hence my name. I've been really trying to work on that throughout the time I've been doing this test since I'm spending a lot more time at the range than I ever have.

  5. @sirchunksalot - I have a funny casualty story for you.

I played the Friday after Thanksgiving. It was slow and we had to wait on the tee often. Soo told the guys that I was playing with about SuperSpeed and specifically about how difficult the kneeling swings were. So my wiseguy friend decided to try a few. Hybrid in hand his first swing was horribly awkward and his second hit the turf. After telling him he wasn’t supposed to do that he took a mighty swing trying not to.

He just picked up his reshafted hybrid this morning. :)

That's hilarious! I hate that for your friend, but you gotta be aware of the ground.

  6. 20181201_115543.jpg.c41417afcb11bae76fdc7564b00b058e.jpgWeek nine is is the books. This has been a crazy week for me with the weather and work. Normally I like to do my protocols on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday, but that just wasn't in the cards for this week. My Friday workout had to be moved to this morning due to rain and being stuck in traffic.

My numbers were staying consistent with just a little drop off. I did hit a personal best of 107 left handed this morning with the lightest club. Also, I did my kneeling swings standing with my feet together today, due to the fact that it was still very wet outside.

One of the things I wanted to gauge with this training was how well it works with a busy schedule. I've gotta say, it's been phenomenal.

I did have a slight casualty this morning, my heaviest club (blue) came in contact with my driveway. I was scared to look at the damage, but it held up wonderfully. Little bit of a scuff on the weight, and no structural damage. rps20181201_115137.jpg.223f78f69c74d0528662318611ea22f7.jpg

  7. Certainly willing to concede the possibility that it was a radar misread, but my sequence for the green step swings was 126, 133, 120, 138, 126, so even if the 138 was generous, I still had some good speed going there.
For my own part, I have to return to the discussion of the need for the radar: there is virtually no chance at all that I would be making this progress without the immediate feedback of the radar. I've gotten much better at taking a swing and knowing (even without looking) whether a given swing was fast or not, whereas when I first got the radar, there were lots of times when the reading was quite opposite of my expectations.
I couldn't agree more with you about the radar. I think it's a valuable resource while using the SuperSpeed system. Anyone looking to purchase this system would be doing themselves a favor buying this along with the sticks. Like you, I've had some swings that surprised me, mostly in a good way. I have had some hiccups with it, swing fast and see something like 72. That's more of the exception than the norm. Plus, with the radar you get a feeling of encouragement when you see high numbers.

  8. It's time for the good news, bad news report.
Good news: speeds are up—considerably. Here are my average numbers for the standing swings (no steps) for each club for the first four weeks:
    image.png.f156aad53e872d7cc0b8d9e080f61d9c.png
And here are the numbers so far through two sessions this week:
    image.png.2fc7a24ef980cf16bb90d8e304e40daa.png
I also had a crazy new personal best: a step-swing with the green club for 138mph!
This week, I added the kneeling swings and upped the reps to five for each set.
Now for the bad news: you know that red stick, the one called Thor's hammer earlier in the thread? Did you know that it's a bad thing if that flies out of your hand when you're swinging? Especially if [cough, cough] you're swinging in a church building?
    Ugh.
That said, it could have been way worse. But I've applied a bit of wood putty to a part of the trim on a doorway. A little touch-up paint this afternoon and we'll be golden.
Here's the other "good" news to come out of the bad news: the impact did jar the end washer loose from my DIY club. But because I epoxied all the washers on, everything else stayed attached. So I'll be able to repair the club easily.
Two improvements to make to keep problems from happening going forward. First, I'm going to wear gloves on both hands. The release of the club happened on a left-hand step swing, and I didn't have a glove on my right hand. Definitely not doing that again.
Second, I'm going to refortify my pool noodle covers of the washers. The hole in the bottom of the noodle needs to be filled, to keep the weight from sliding down at impact.

138, that's an awesome number! You must've tapped into the speed force for that one. Keep up the good work, it's going to be interesting to see how your numbers look after the first six weeks.

  9. Yes, looking at the long range forecast I am seeing low 20's next week.  I wish I had a place inside, but I don't.
I'm with you on that, it would be nice to have somewhere indoors to do it. I'm wishing I would have bought a house with a garage. But, I think it gives our readers a good insight on what to expect and see what it's like to do it outside in the cold. It's a really good routine in the fact that the warm-up can be done indoors and the rest of the protocol goes by pretty quick.

  10. I've just gained a new level of respect for my northern friends. Got my second session of week nine in tonight after work and was greeted to a temperature of 32 degrees. After layering up real good with thermals, a fleece jacket, and a beanie (toboggan to us southerners), I was good to go. I will say that a leather golf glove doesn't work out to well.  I even chose to only record my fastest speed ala Kenny. I usually record everything, but I decided to smart thing to do was save time and get back inside to a heater.

I had some good swings tonight hitting a high of 106 dominant and 103 non dominant. I say it was a good night and a great way to end the day. rps20181127_200055.thumb.jpg.dd9b08590c25dea588f527c2f9d2f764.jpg

I got an email from Kyle today asking for me to send a video of my swing so they can offer some advice. I'm hoping the rain that's forecasted for the weekend doesn't hit so I can head out to the range and take care of this.

@Kegger, the kneeling swings will get easier. After my first session my lower back was quite stiff, but as I've gotten used to it, it's not as bad. I'm glad to hear the air quality out in California has improved and an saddened by all the lives that have been affected by the fires. I'm glad to hear you're safe.

  11. @revkev I definitely am thankful that we have a group of testers and forum members that keep us motivated. I don't think I would be outside at 7 p.m. doing this training as frequently without you guys. If I had bought this, without the same support and had the same results, this would be going in the closet. Wouldn't sell it, I'm too stubborn. You guys keep the motivation going.

  12. You're almost certainly right that it's psychological and it's easy to focus on that little white thing and start thinking about hitting the ball rather than swinging the club.
Give this a go next time you're on the tee/driving range:
    • Use an alignment aid on the ball to line up your intended strike path
    • Away from the ball, get in some practice swings that are fast and smooth, just keep gently building until the swing arc feels good to you. Don't even look at the ball yet, just get the swing movement feeling good
    • Step up to the ball, using the alignment line to find your position and stance as quickly (but accurately) as possible, so you don't start thinking about the ball
    • Keep your eye on the ball, but not your mind. In your mind just focus on what the "through" part of your practice swings felt like and all you're going to think about in your actual swing is getting to the point where the "exit" of the swing feels the same as the practice swings did.
You really want the impact with the ball to be an incidental note on the swing of the club.
Focusing on impact is the easiest way to decelerate into the ball or to stiffen up your muscles as if you're trying to smack an axe into a tree and you're expecting real impact. The golf ball is a tiny, light-weight little thing that is actually just getting in the way of your swing path.
Good golf is about good swings that happen to pass through the resting location of a ball...
Thanks Jon! I'll try that out the next time I get to the range.

  13. What I find interesting is that we are swinging the same SuperSpeed Senior set of clubs; your speeds are overall much faster than mine with all clubs.  However, our driver swing speed is close to the same now.  The only difference seems to be that my driver weighs 328 grams and yours weighs 279 grams.  With your higher club speeds and lighter driver, you should be blowing my doors off!!
It's definitely interesting, Kenny. I can't figure it out at all. The speed is there, except when I see a ball in front of me. So now, I've got so many thoughts going through my head. Deceleration, lag, ground interaction, and more. I can swing my driver faster without a ball than with one.

This test is fun, and it's hitting all the high notes with the exception of on course performance, for me. I think this is just a mental hurdle that I've got to get over. I feel like it's right there...just gotta get over the hump.

  14. Took the clubs to the driving range today to work on some things that I've noticed in my game, most notably tee shots that went up but not out. I'm trying to focus on keeping the driver lower longer on my backswing and coming in on a similar angle. The good news: better drives, the bad news: After eight weeks of training I still haven't hit the five percent increase in speed.

I'm seeing gains from the beginning of the test, but it isn't what I was hoping for or expecting. Today it was a 91 mph average, which is better than my starting speed of 89.

I know I can swing faster, but you put a ball in front of me it's just not happening. One of the things we were told before the test is that you swing faster when you're hitting a ball and that you'll be slower if you swing a driver without one. Starting the test, the first thing I did was swing just my driver and ended up with a swing of 78 mph and the initial driving range session was faster by 11 mph. I took two swings today with just the driver and had 90 and 93 on the radar. It's that little white ball....

Weather permitting, I'll record some video this weekend and post it up. It's been a wet and chilly fall here in Tennessee, so I'm hoping for some dry weather to come in.

Other than that, week nine is off to a good start, this is a plateau phase in the training so I know my speeds will remain constant during the training.

  15. Careful guys: this is what your swing looks like if you OD on SuperSpeed step swings:
[/url] That said: he just won an event, so swing your swing!
That's pretty much how my step swings look. I know my neighbors have to be looking at me like I'm crazy when I'm doing them. "Honey, go back inside, the weird guy is outside again".

    Guy makes it work, though.

  16. Kyle, here are the numbers from my aggressive driver swings with no ball. I did my dynamic warm-up complete with the ten swings with the heaviest club. The last two were 90 and 93 mph.

    Now for the driver: I took ten swings and the speeds were 78, 83, 90, 89, 89, 90, 93, 95, 87, and 77. I averaged that out to. 87.1 mph.

I'm going to hit the range tomorrow and check there. I have had a couple of swing thoughts that I want to experiment with. One is that I'm using my iron swing with my driver, causing a downward strike on the ball, thus the extra spin. The other is I noticed that my on course swing is more compact in the backswing than the drill a moment ago.

I appreciate you taking the opportunity to give advice here on the forum. I think it gives the readers a good idea of how great your customer service is.

  17. Hi Jason, I think you are spot on about looking into your driver. We have commonly found that once someone gains a good amount of speed as you have their current driver no longer is suitable for them. Spin often increases too much. The amount of speed you have gained with each SuperSpeed clubs has been outstanding and if it isn't transferring over that is the first place to look. Do you know how much your current driver weighs in total? Down the line you may also want to look at doing a ball fitting as that can change too.

The good thing is that it is the off season so it is a good time for you to focus on speed and then as the spring hits you will be better suited to take this new speed to the course.

One other test you could try is to measure some max out driver swings using the radar but not hitting a ball. Let us know how those numbers look.

    Kyle

Thanks Kyle! I have not personally weighed my driver, but have looked up the spec sheet on TaylorMade's website and they say it's 279 grams. Would it affect my training if I went to a heavier driver? I'm currently in the Senior set of speed sticks, which hit the -20, -10, and +5 extremely well. I'm also wondering about my angle of attack with the driver since I've really been focusing on my iron game lately and I might be hitting down on the ball with my driver.

I appreciate the feedback, it's definitely something I'll have to look into. I'll get some numbers with my driver and get them to you.

  18. Week 8 is officially over for me. My numbers have been pretty consistent the last few weeks, I guess that has to do with this being a plateau phase. That, and adding the kneeling swings into the mix. Daisy from SuperSpeed said this was to be expected.

My kneeling swings have gotten better, my highs this week were 88, 89, and 80 on my dominant side and 80, 81, and 76 non dominant. I'm actually just a hair faster with the medium club than my light.

I played a round earlier today and took the swing radar with me to get some numbers on course. I'm disappointed that I'm not seeing the numbers on the course that I'm getting at the range. I had a high today of 94 and a low of 87. I recorded eight drives and only averaged 90 mph.

I don't know if this is the mental part of the game in that I'm trying to control where my drives are going and limiting myself on speed. I did hit a 3 wood 208 off the deck according to Arccos, a new record! Maybe I need to ditch the driver.

I am noticing that my driver is ballooning, I hit em high and not far. I probably need to get a new one as I think mine might spin too much. Daisy recommended getting fitted for a new one, but after getting new irons a couple of months ago that's a little over budget. I did use TrueFit that My Golf Spy has put out and got recommended for a Srixon z765 that I might look into as you can find them used at a reasonable rate. I know it's not a fitting, but $300 plus is quite a bit to have to shell out this close to Christmas.

I'm going to hit the range again on Sunday to see if there's been any change there. I do feel like I can swing more freely when there's not trees to hit into. 20181123_172406.jpegScreenshot_20181123-174743.jpeg

  19. Do you mean "What would you do after the heart attack you had after your employer gave you a surprise three day paid vacation"?

Depends on the weather, if it's nice I would definitely go play a round. I would probably spend the rest of the time relaxing at home with the wife and fur babies.

  20. First off, congratulations Kenny for hitting a milestone. That's awesome! That's one of the beautiful things about SuperSpeed, seeing speed increases and knowing the work is paying off.

I did my second session today. The highlights: 110, 105, and 102 from lightest to heaviest. It's the first time I hit over 100 with the heaviest (blue for me) club.

The lowlight: I nearly fell off the stability pad. Just a friendly warning, when using the Stability Pro mat use caution and pay attention to where your knees wander off to. If you happen to notice they are getting near the edge of the mat, please reposition them closer to the center. At least it's a short drop from knee height.

I'm loving the mat, it's a lot more comfortable than the one I bought from Lowes. I feel it's kinder and gentler to the knees.

To all you out there, wherever you are, I hope each of you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

  21. Just got home to find my brand new stability mat waiting for me. Unfortunately, I did my session last night and will have to wait another day before trying it out.
I did take it out of the box and try it out on my living room floor, I really like the way it feels. It's thicker than the AWP mat i bought at Lowes and my first impression is that it feels better.

The old kneeling pad I will give to my wife for gardening, I've never understood how she can go without one.

Thank you to SuperSpeed Golf for surprising us with this.

  22. Tempo is certainly important for each individual player. However, each player does need to find the best tempo that will work for them to produce consistent results. We have found that by increasing the overall athleticism and efficiency of the golf swing, a player will fall into a much more consistent and repeatable tempo. This happens as a result of proper sequencing in the golf swing.
Welcome to the forum! It's nice to see y'all here.
