  1. @revkev I definitely am thankful that we have a group of testers and forum members that keep us motivated. I don't think I would be outside at 7 p.m. doing this training as frequently without you guys. If I had bought this, without the same support and had the same results, this would be going in the closet. Wouldn't sell it, I'm too stubborn. You guys keep the motivation going.

  2. You're almost certainly right that it's psychological and it's easy to focus on that little white thing and start thinking about hitting the ball rather than swinging the club.
Give this a go next time you're on the tee/driving range:
    • Use an alignment aid on the ball to line up your intended strike path
    • Away from the ball, get in some practice swings that are fast and smooth, just keep gently building until the swing arc feels good to you. Don't even look at the ball yet, just get the swing movement feeling good
    • Step up to the ball, using the alignment line to find your position and stance as quickly (but accurately) as possible, so you don't start thinking about the ball
    • Keep your eye on the ball, but not your mind. In your mind just focus on what the "through" part of your practice swings felt like and all you're going to think about in your actual swing is getting to the point where the "exit" of the swing feels the same as the practice swings did.
You really want the impact with the ball to be an incidental note on the swing of the club.
Focusing on impact is the easiest way to decelerate into the ball or to stiffen up your muscles as if you're trying to smack an axe into a tree and you're expecting real impact. The golf ball is a tiny, light-weight little thing that is actually just getting in the way of your swing path.
Good golf is about good swings that happen to pass through the resting location of a ball...
Thanks Jon! I'll try that out the next time I get to the range.

  3. What I find interesting is that we are swinging the same SuperSpeed Senior set of clubs; your speeds are overall much faster than mine with all clubs.  However, our driver swing speed is close to the same now.  The only difference seems to be that my driver weighs 328 grams and yours weighs 279 grams.  With your higher club speeds and lighter driver, you should be blowing my doors off!!
It's definitely interesting, Kenny. I can't figure it out at all. The speed is there, except when I see a ball in front of me. So now, I've got so many thoughts going through my head. Deceleration, lag, ground interaction, and more. I can swing my driver faster without a ball than with one.

This test is fun, and it's hitting all the high notes with the exception of on course performance, for me. I think this is just a mental hurdle that I've got to get over. I feel like it's right there...just gotta get over the hump.

  4. Took the clubs to the driving range today to work on some things that I've noticed in my game, most notably tee shots that went up but not out. I'm trying to focus on keeping the driver lower longer on my backswing and coming in on a similar angle. The good news: better drives, the bad news: After eight weeks of training I still haven't hit the five percent increase in speed.

I'm seeing gains from the beginning of the test, but it isn't what I was hoping for or expecting. Today it was a 91 mph average, which is better than my starting speed of 89.

I know I can swing faster, but you put a ball in front of me it's just not happening. One of the things we were told before the test is that you swing faster when you're hitting a ball and that you'll be slower if you swing a driver without one. Starting the test, the first thing I did was swing just my driver and ended up with a swing of 78 mph and the initial driving range session was faster by 11 mph. I took two swings today with just the driver and had 90 and 93 on the radar. It's that little white ball....

Weather permitting, I'll record some video this weekend and post it up. It's been a wet and chilly fall here in Tennessee, so I'm hoping for some dry weather to come in.

Other than that, week nine is off to a good start, this is a plateau phase in the training so I know my speeds will remain constant during the training.

  5. Careful guys: this is what your swing looks like if you OD on SuperSpeed step swings:
[/url] That said: he just won an event, so swing your swing!
That's pretty much how my step swings look. I know my neighbors have to be looking at me like I'm crazy when I'm doing them. "Honey, go back inside, the weird guy is outside again".

    Guy makes it work, though.

  6. Kyle, here are the numbers from my aggressive driver swings with no ball. I did my dynamic warm-up complete with the ten swings with the heaviest club. The last two were 90 and 93 mph.

    Now for the driver: I took ten swings and the speeds were 78, 83, 90, 89, 89, 90, 93, 95, 87, and 77. I averaged that out to. 87.1 mph.

I'm going to hit the range tomorrow and check there. I have had a couple of swing thoughts that I want to experiment with. One is that I'm using my iron swing with my driver, causing a downward strike on the ball, thus the extra spin. The other is I noticed that my on course swing is more compact in the backswing than the drill a moment ago.

I appreciate you taking the opportunity to give advice here on the forum. I think it gives the readers a good idea of how great your customer service is.

  7. Hi Jason, I think you are spot on about looking into your driver. We have commonly found that once someone gains a good amount of speed as you have their current driver no longer is suitable for them. Spin often increases too much. The amount of speed you have gained with each SuperSpeed clubs has been outstanding and if it isn't transferring over that is the first place to look. Do you know how much your current driver weighs in total? Down the line you may also want to look at doing a ball fitting as that can change too.

The good thing is that it is the off season so it is a good time for you to focus on speed and then as the spring hits you will be better suited to take this new speed to the course.

One other test you could try is to measure some max out driver swings using the radar but not hitting a ball. Let us know how those numbers look.

    Kyle

Thanks Kyle! I have not personally weighed my driver, but have looked up the spec sheet on TaylorMade's website and they say it's 279 grams. Would it affect my training if I went to a heavier driver? I'm currently in the Senior set of speed sticks, which hit the -20, -10, and +5 extremely well. I'm also wondering about my angle of attack with the driver since I've really been focusing on my iron game lately and I might be hitting down on the ball with my driver.

I appreciate the feedback, it's definitely something I'll have to look into. I'll get some numbers with my driver and get them to you.

  8. Week 8 is officially over for me. My numbers have been pretty consistent the last few weeks, I guess that has to do with this being a plateau phase. That, and adding the kneeling swings into the mix. Daisy from SuperSpeed said this was to be expected.

My kneeling swings have gotten better, my highs this week were 88, 89, and 80 on my dominant side and 80, 81, and 76 non dominant. I'm actually just a hair faster with the medium club than my light.

I played a round earlier today and took the swing radar with me to get some numbers on course. I'm disappointed that I'm not seeing the numbers on the course that I'm getting at the range. I had a high today of 94 and a low of 87. I recorded eight drives and only averaged 90 mph.

I don't know if this is the mental part of the game in that I'm trying to control where my drives are going and limiting myself on speed. I did hit a 3 wood 208 off the deck according to Arccos, a new record! Maybe I need to ditch the driver.

I am noticing that my driver is ballooning, I hit em high and not far. I probably need to get a new one as I think mine might spin too much. Daisy recommended getting fitted for a new one, but after getting new irons a couple of months ago that's a little over budget. I did use TrueFit that My Golf Spy has put out and got recommended for a Srixon z765 that I might look into as you can find them used at a reasonable rate. I know it's not a fitting, but $300 plus is quite a bit to have to shell out this close to Christmas.

I'm going to hit the range again on Sunday to see if there's been any change there. I do feel like I can swing more freely when there's not trees to hit into. 20181123_172406.jpegScreenshot_20181123-174743.jpeg

  9. Do you mean "What would you do after the heart attack you had after your employer gave you a surprise three day paid vacation"?

Depends on the weather, if it's nice I would definitely go play a round. I would probably spend the rest of the time relaxing at home with the wife and fur babies.

  10. First off, congratulations Kenny for hitting a milestone. That's awesome! That's one of the beautiful things about SuperSpeed, seeing speed increases and knowing the work is paying off.

I did my second session today. The highlights: 110, 105, and 102 from lightest to heaviest. It's the first time I hit over 100 with the heaviest (blue for me) club.

The lowlight: I nearly fell off the stability pad. Just a friendly warning, when using the Stability Pro mat use caution and pay attention to where your knees wander off to. If you happen to notice they are getting near the edge of the mat, please reposition them closer to the center. At least it's a short drop from knee height.

I'm loving the mat, it's a lot more comfortable than the one I bought from Lowes. I feel it's kinder and gentler to the knees.

To all you out there, wherever you are, I hope each of you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

  11. Just got home to find my brand new stability mat waiting for me. Unfortunately, I did my session last night and will have to wait another day before trying it out.
I did take it out of the box and try it out on my living room floor, I really like the way it feels. It's thicker than the AWP mat i bought at Lowes and my first impression is that it feels better.

The old kneeling pad I will give to my wife for gardening, I've never understood how she can go without one.

Thank you to SuperSpeed Golf for surprising us with this.

  12. Tempo is certainly important for each individual player. However, each player does need to find the best tempo that will work for them to produce consistent results. We have found that by increasing the overall athleticism and efficiency of the golf swing, a player will fall into a much more consistent and repeatable tempo. This happens as a result of proper sequencing in the golf swing.
Welcome to the forum! It's nice to see y'all here.

  13. The radar may have tracked your ball instead of the club on the 110 outlier. Did it get turned a little forward instead of angled back for that one shot?

In any case you may as well tell everyone you hulked up for one shot and smashed it!

I pretty much tried to keep it consistent putting the tee in about the same spot and not moving the radar. I'm going to go with me channeling my inner Hulk. .

  14. Wow!  85-110mph seems like a lot of variation!!
I thought so, too. I can see the lower speed being feasible, as most of my speeds were just above it. It could be falling into old swing habits or just being tired. I do all my driver swings toward the end of my range sessions.

The 110 really seems like an anomaly, it's a speed that's usually reserved for my lightest speed stick. It may be a hiccup by the radar, as I've seen those during training. Sometimes it won't pick up a swing and it also shows a very slow speed. I've had to take a few extra swings during the training.

I put them in because they felt like they were hit solid. I did have one that registered 109, but I had hit the ground behind the ball and I felt it didn't need to be in the averages.

My Arccos handicap is now sitting at 27, so I'm not the most consistent golfer out there. I'm convinced that this test has helped in this regard, as I've been playing and practicing a lot more than ever. My wife's convinced that it's very important to the MGS community that I play a lot for the integrity of the test.

Here are the notes from the range session:

  15. Ok guys, went to the driving range today to see if I could see an improvement over my week six results. After the first protocol I saw an increase of 1.6 percent in my initial swing speed, which was lower than my fellow testers.

Today I took 17 shots with my driver, recording each good one. I say that because I had a couple of outliers where I hit the ground before the ball, so I made sure not to include them in my statistics. I did have one of these hit 109 mph, but most of them were in the 84-86 range.

My final statistics were an average of 92 mph, with a high of 110 (good, solid contact) and a low of 84. Most of my drives were in the 91-92 mph range.

Now I'm sitting at an increase of 3.37 percent in overall swing speed. I'm still looking for the magical five percent increase, but at least I'm going in the right direction. Now if I could just remember how I hit that one....

It's back to the driving range next weekend to get more numbers. Maybe week eight will be the lucky number.

  16. Week seven has been a crazy one for me. It's been unseasonably cold and wet here in southeast Tennessee, I've been working lots of overtime, and my wife has been sick. My schedule for training has been altered because I've had to make runs into town on my way home to get food, so my training was on Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday. I'll be doing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week.

It was a good week, I've noticed that my speeds were a little slower earlier in the week due to having to bundle up, and guys, I'm not very flexible to begin with. My kneeling swings are basically feeling like I'm just flailing water in order to stay afloat. My speeds were faster today as it was sixty degrees outside and that's perfect weather for a tee shirt and freedom.

I got an all time high with my lightest (yellow) club of 114 mph with the step change drill and tied a high of 108 with my medium (green).

I'm planning on hitting the range again to see if I can reach the five percent gain that eluded me after the initial six week period. I ended up buying a pass to the driving range for forty dollars and I'll get fifteen buckets at that price. That's a steal of a deal and I knew that with this test and still adjusting to my new irons, I couldn't pass it up.

  17. That's great progress so far mpatrickriley, I'm glad to see you're off to a good start. I think it's going to be an interesting read to see how you come along.

As far as the speeds we record goes, we are only showing in our weekly updates the fastest swings with each club for the week. I'm keeping track of every swing I take, as I'm sure everyone else is doing in this program. I think it's a great motivational tool that we can use to try to beat the previous week.

I have noticed that my speeds have dropped slightly this week, so far. I think it might have to do with the combination of the new drill and the cooler temperatures that have moved in. Bundling up is killing my already lackluster flexibility.

I've still got one more session to go to have my weekly numbers finalized. Between work, weather, and a sick wife this week has been rough on my training schedule. At least it's going to be sunny and 60 tomorrow.

Keep us posted on how you're doing, it's always great to have another voice to share their experiences.

  18. Just wanted to chime in on something Rev stated earlier. He mentioned that as a group we probably would see an increase that was in line with what SuperSpeed advertises.

Combined this group started out with a total SS of 549.5 and after six weeks that number went up to a total of 587.4, an increase of 37.9 mph.

That's right at a 7 percent increase across the group.

    That's pretty impressive.

  19. Okay I got to the range in between church on my conference. I was unsure of what to expect as two services and a Bible Study are demanding but my all out swing at the end of the dynamic warm up produced this with the red club produced this so I was ready.

Hit some nine irons and drivers, got the right position with the radar and was ready, 94, 95, 96, 98, 97.

    IMG_1434.thumb.JPG.3ee4027d0a45fa622fab945c17734c8a.JPG

That’s 96 in my book which is 5 mph over where I started for a solid 5 percent game. All shots produced ball speeds in the high 130’s on SwingCaddy with nice smash factors for an average of 93.4 and 1.47 smash on that device.

That’s the way I used to do it. I’m pretty pumped.

On to the next protocol. First one is in the books for that one, too. While we aren’t doing our Stage 2 review until the New Year I will say these results are impressive. Someone else noted it and I will reiterate that Daisy emphasized that the level of service we are receiving comes with purchasing the sticks. It’s a remarkable value when you think about it.

Like anything worthwhile this is some work. You have to have the discipline to set aside the time to do it three days a week. For those who live in cold climates you need the space and I would say the radar to push yourself.

As a negative example we have a pro on staff who is a mini tour player. He was on the range with me when I first started out seven weeks ago and was getting my first measurements. He heard Swingcaddy shouting out 208, 211, 210 that day.

He had the SuperSpeed sticks and had given up on them. I showed him the 231 on Tuesday - he made me go to the range to prove it was me. I ripped one off, 94 mph SS, 138 ball speed, 218 carry, 239 total (probably more like 245 down wind).

He then asked if I had followed their protocols. I said religiously other than I can’t always do mornings like SuperSpeed suggests.

He said, “I’m going to do it. If I can find 20 yards it’s the Hooters Tour for me.”

Great job Rev! You ain't kidding about the level of service that comes standard with these sticks. Daisy, Kyle, and the SuperSpeed staff have been nothing short of excellent. I'm sad that I missed the conference call and am hoping to be able to make the next one.

I'm also glad that you convinced your pro to give these another shot. I believe he could really benefit from them.

    Congrats on the impressive numbers!

  20. I was able to hit the course today and play nine. It was a very nice day on a wet course, at least some spots were not too swampy.

I played pretty good, still not seeing ill effects from the training as far as course management and accuracy. My ball striking has improved greatly, I'm going to credit that to SuperSpeed and my Cobra irons (they're awesome). Although, I've also been killing my three wood off the deck.

    rps20181111_161954.jpgrps20181111_162019.jpg

I'm still not seeing any speed gains off the tee, I hit a few extra drives because I pretty much had the course to myself. My average over 11 shots was 89 mph, mix that in with the range numbers yesterday and it gives me an average of 89.9 mph. That's a one percent increase from my starting speed.

I agree with Rev, I think as a group we will probably average the five percent increase overall. My fellow testers are just killing it when it comes to gains. I'm feeling like I'm the outlier in the group when it comes to gaining the least. I'm discouraged, but fascinated by the results. I really don't understand why, I can see gains with the sticks but when there's a ball in front of me it all goes downhill. The limiter on my brain just hasn't been overcome, yet. I have faith that it will.
