3 Vapor Drivers Hit the USGA List

Filed under You Knew This Was Coming, 3 Nike Vapor Drivers landed on the USGA list today. 

 

Clearing the conformity hurdle are two variants of the Vapor Speed and one Vapor Pro.

 

It's hard to make much of anything out of the USGA's photos, so we don't know, for example if the Pro is smaller (it appears more compact, but you don't know until you know). Unlike what was shown in the original leaks on WRX, none of the 3 are fixed hosel designs.

 

Perhaps most interesting is that the core-flippable Vapor Flex driver isn't among the 3. 

 

My guess is we'll see that one a bit later as I suspect the technology will be targeted more towards the consumer than the Tour Pro. If you look at recent history you'll see that nobody creates more one-off variants of their drivers than Nike (half of them are probably for Tiger Woods). They'll tweak (and tweak, and tweak) until everybody's happy, and that leads to an abundance of near-sameness on the list.

 

My bet is that at least one of these 3 is a one-off, with the other two likely identical to what eventually hits retail alongside the Flex. I'd still wager on 3 unique models at retail.
