Browser Issues

I use Microsoft Edge as my browser of choice and occasionally get this error:

Warning: file_get_contents(http://www.mygolfspy.com/feed/atom/): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! in /home/forummyg/public_html/admin/applications_addon/other/custom_blocks/sources/custom_blocks.php(410) : eval()'d code on line 7

Anyone else get this error when accessing MGS using Edge?

It only happens on occasions so I was curious if anyone else got the same message.  I use Norton as my anti virus program and no alerts show when this happens.

Little off topic but our IT guy says to stay away from Edge for whatever reason and Norton antivirus is just invasive. Good luck getting rid of it if you ever want to change.

I am all Apple based and have no issues; use Safari and Firefox.  I will say that my wife has an older Apple computer (one of seven) that she put Norton on once, then tried to get it off.  Nope, still there!  Finally took it to an Apple repair store, and they managed to get it off but it wasn't easy!

I hopped back on Firefox which I used to use all the time however I've found that Microsoft Edge is much faster on my laptop.  Plus I'm not getting those funky messages any longer. I use to work in IT ten years ago and things change so I'm just rolling with the tide now.

Dump Norton now!

I have been using Norton Premier 360 for 15 years now with no issues.  In fact when I was working for the Air Force at Robins AFB, we used Norton there.  I recently purchased another year that expires August of 2018.   The suite I use costs over $100.00 per year.   I'm not sure if they would refund my money  although I will check if you can convince me why I should drop it?

Curious as to why they say to avoid Norton.  I've used it as our primary AV on 3 different OS's over the last 10 years or so, and it seems to be a very good program, and has never caused us any problems that I'm aware of

yep, we have Norton Security 17 deluxe I believe.   I'm interested in hearing what's bad about it as well.   It's always been highly rated from what I know, but I'm just a novice consumer, I'm not up on the latest IT stuff.

I'm not saying it's a bad antivirus program, just saying that if you ever want to go with something else it's tough to completely remove from the PC, kind of invasive...or at least it used to be. Just my mostly uneducated opinion :)

Ok gotcha.  I think I may have encountered that when we were installing our new Dell With Windows 10, Edge has a built in AV I guess, but said it's not compatible with Norton (or I guess any other AV program if I recall correctly)  I read some user forums on Windows 10 and heard the same thing about having issues completely uninstalling Norton.

So we decided to leave it since it was working and not use Edge.  We prefer Chrome anyway.

We were told by our IT guy not to use Edge. I don't remember why though.

Well just from a little bit of playing with it and reading about it on a Windows Forum, we quickly decided we didn't want to use it either, but I can't remember any specifics either as to why not...LOL

MDGolfHacker is very knowledgeable on all this, and if he wasn't on a Bahama's cruise right now, I'm sure he'd chime in.  Maybe when he returns, I'll bump the thread to get his input.
