Honestly the 2 are so very close in performance and feel that going with what visually looks better to you would be the way to make your decision.

Oh god. I have a TS-3 7 iron that I bought to demo several months ago and I like it but man the TS4s look awesome. The TS-1IMs look nice as well. Seems like the TS-1IM has a slightly higher CG, multi-material face, slightly stronger lofts and has tungsten through the entire set whereas the TS4 stops at 8i. I guess I will just await Gabe's review. Feels like I probably would get along with any of them though I do take a fairly standard divot so maybe a slightly higher CG isn't the worst thing in the world.

For kicks, What do you think is a good combo set using TS1-IM, TS3, TE+ V4 or TS4?

I watched the video and if anyone was on the fence about Maltby that should clear things up for them. As for me, I was already bought in on Maltby so this just creates a new problem for me....I guess I have to order a TS1-IM 7 iron to go along with the TE+ V4 7 iron and TS3 7 irons I have. 😝

In all seriousness, this was great content and I love that it beats the Kirkland irons. I knew it should but glad Gabe saw it that way.

That's where Maltby kind of creates their own problem. They make too many clubs that are too awesome and it makes you want to buy a demo of each 😜

The Costco thing really isn't a surprise. I really want him to run these head to head with the Takomos.. or TM P790 to really show people what Maltby is all about.

This may already be out among the 550 posts, so apologies if my post is a repeat question.

What's the technical differences between the TS1 and TSI-IM? Other than the maraging face and lack of tungsten in the lofted clubs?

Are the IM's worth the 50% increase in cost or are the standard ones plenty hot and forgiving as they are?

I have a set of Recoil Prototype 125's in need of heads that are long, forgiving, feel great, and priced right for the performance.

Can anybody who has been playing the TC Pro driver possibly provide an update on your experience so far?

You probably already saw this...

image.png.0449b4fcc66d99d25b32b4a590f7f80d.png

The sole widths vary in the new TS1 IM whereas the TS1 had a static sole width through the entire set. MOI is higher in the TS1 IM but the center of gravity is higher also (by a rather small amount from .750 to .788). But I also have the same questions as you as to what the feel and performance difference actually is. I like the look of the IM more (vanity) so that may end up ruling the day.

I agree that the look is better in the IM. Much cleaner and sleeker look. But if I can save $20/head, that's a big savings when you're talking about these amounts ($40v$60).

Unlikely but if anyone wants to demo a TS3 (7 iron, standard L/L/L, FST 125 Stiff shaft) and has a 7 iron in the TS1 IM in a stiff shaft that they want to swap that would be great.

Here’s my recently built Maltby KE4 HyWay 21° utility. The shaft is the Mitsubishi Kuro Kage in R flex. It’s 42” long with a D2 swing weight.
I’ll cut to the chase, I’m using this thing way more often than I expected. I struggle with fairway woods. I’ve played six rounds with it and have hit it off the fairway, from the rough, and off a tee. Distance is very good, and consistent. For me, it is one of those confidence inspiring clubs. I typically hit a draw, but this club seems to prefer hitting the ball straight. My only negative is that the sound is tinny. I stuffed yarn in the head which helps a little.
I’m a hobby club builder and have built a couple of hundred clubs, for myself and others, over the years. The HyWay is in my top 5. Definitely a keeper.

Forget to mention - I used it off the tee on a par 5, then again on the second shot from the fairway. My third shot, with a nine iron, cleared the front bunker and rolled up the green toward the flag. It dropped in the hole for an eagle! HyWay gets a double assist….

I hear ya. I used the Hywood and UST COMP shaft for a few months and its pretty versatile. But I went to my 20 degree 42" Great Big Bertha 7 wood and thats my go to now. I also didnt like the white paint on the Maltby clubs and stripped mine. I told them the same and looks like no more white paint on the new clubs. Congrats on the eagle, those always make your day. Good club and it sails when you catch it right.

@vandyland I don't have anything to offer you in return, but I am interested in what you think of the FST 125 shaft you have in your demo TS3?  I am having difficulty committing to a full set of irons with the Project X 6.0. @Popeye64 mentioned the FST as an option and I have been trying research it but have only found scant information. However, at less than 1/3 the price of of the Project X I am seriously considering it. I think the launch profile of the TT Score is too high for me but the FST has some potential.

I have had good luck with the Apollo Spectre shafts as a low cost alternative. Very similar to the DG105 flight wise and weight. The issue is weight tolerance. I ordered 7 shafts and while 5 were within a 1\10th of a gram, the other two were a few grams out of spec.

If you want a low-mid launching shaft like the Project X, the easiest to suggest is the Original Dynamic golds. You can get a pulled set for very cheap.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/375165864417

for example.

Also Apollo stepless shafts are very good shafts not just for the money. Overall good and have a low-mid launch similar to Project X

Thanks for the direction. My issue with these shafts is that GW doesn't currently carry them and I was planning on their assembly expertise as I don't have the tools. I can see possibly building a demo club but not sure I am up for an entire set. I see all of the beautiful club builds on the site and I get very intimidated.

I have read of folks shipping their shafts to Golfworks and having clubs assembled.  You’d have to give them a call to get this setup.  Or, maybe there’s a local builder.  I went local with my TS1s as the local fitter fit me for iron shafts.

If youre having GW assemble them, use their shafts. Just request a shaft with a similar profile to the project x. Give them a call.

Also dont underestimate your ability to diy. They have lots of guides and really all you need is a pipe cutter, measuring tape, a ferrule and some epoxy and to follow instructions. Just request a low-mid launch shaft tour weight, or the project X. They will suggest the KBS tour 120 or the DG originals and that isnt much of a price change. You just wanna avoid high launch shafts like the scor or multistep.

FWIW, in my experience, both the KBS Tour and DG are great shafts.  I find that the KBS launches higher than PX while the DGs tend to be lower launching like the PX.   But that could just be me, admittedly.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

The new MultiStep is nothing like the old one. They really should given it a different name because it is not a high launch shaft now and is much lighter. It could be a good idea to try one out.

@Robh65 For what it is worth, I think the FST shaft performs a lot like my KBS Tour shaft, slightly lighter since it is cut to size from one length. In the past I have not gotten along with Project X as I find them to play a bit stiffer to flex (for me) and I like a "lively" shaft. Also, I like a higher launching shaft as well. I would think you might find the FST to be more "active" than you like.

@Robh65 For what it is worth, I think the FST shaft performs a lot like my KBS Tour shaft, slightly lighter since it is cut to size from one length. I decided to order a TS4 7i with an FST 125 X-stiff shaft demo club today so I can get a sense of the head and the shaft. If it doesn’t pan out then at least I will feel better about pulling the trigger on a set with the Project X.

ENOUGH, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

I am going to order a 7 iron in the TS1-IM with the same 125g FST shaft as the TS3 I currently have. Then I will have TWO maltby demos even though I don't need new irons (and I already demoed the TE+ V4 DBM which I swapped with another forum user to get the TS3). Gahhhh.

Update: I ordered it. Should be here in a few weeks. Even with the FST shaft it was about $95 with shipping and taxes for the 7 iron which is still a deal compared to other brands but man I hope I can sell it to someone else trying the same experiment for $60 so I can at least net off some of that expense.
