fixyurdivot
We golfers immediately understand that lingo . I'm curious how many of you experience the "tale of two nines" syndrome? You know, those rounds where a front or back nine inexplicably plays/scores completely different. I've had a handful of these since last summer. If memory serves me correctly, most of the time its been the front nine I struggle with. I can only chalk it up to me getting my game "on plane"; working out swing kinks, recalling the muscle memory and feel on short game, and dialing in green speeds? I've tracked this but know many of you track lots of your stats. I wonder if PGA stats track this - though suspect the difference is really subtle at pro level play. Curious what your experience and thoughts are here. Tom the Golf Nut
My course has a harder front nine in my opinion. It is also one stroke longer than the back. (two par 5's on front and one on the back) But looking back at a bunch of score cards from last year the front plays harder for me by two strokes over the back. But if I warmed up more often before I played maybe that would get better. fixyurdivot 1 Quote Driver, TSi 1 S Flex 3 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 7 Wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 Hybrid King Tec MMT R Flex Irons, Tour UST Recoil 95 R Flex (6 - Gap) Wedges, Snakebite KBS Hi- Rev2.0 54* & 60* Agera 35" Ultralight 14-way Cart Bag
DiscipleofPenick
I used to do this a lot. No prep before playing go out and have a rough few holes 1-4 and kind of check out. Then reset on the back 9 and go on a tear. Now it can only happen at my home course where the back 9 is far tougher than the front. I posted a lot of 36-42 type scores over the last few years. RickyBobby_PR
I don’t really pay attention once the round is over. I play courses that the two sides play different and a mistake on one side is going to be more penal than the other. It’s been awhile since I played the PB Dye course but the back side pace of play would be a lot slower than the front and it would affect scores. fixyurdivot 1 Quote Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1
Kenny B
Over the years I have better scores on the back nine, but there are a lot of factors to consider. Par 37 Front; Par 35 Back 3 par 5's Front; 3 Par 3's Back Front has tighter fairways, more uneven lies, and more grassy mounds in the rough Back is generally more open and flatter The harder holes for me are on the Front and generally play into the wind Being old, I don't get loosened up until hole #5, which unfortunately is a difficult hole Being old, I sometimes run out of gas on hole #16 However, I have shot even par on both the Front and the Back... just not on the same day!! I have also shot 48 on both nines; fortunately not on the same day!!! fixyurdivot 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
revkev
It depends - when I’m playing a lot of golf it really doesn’t matter - if I’m next t playing much it’s very common for me to be lower on the back even if the back is more difficult. There are often some significance can’t differences between nines because they are really different in difficulty. At my club the front is a stroke and a half more difficult than the back because it has 3 par 4’s over 400 to one on the back. For those who like to play the tips those par 4’s are all over 450Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy fixyurdivot 1 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
THEZIPR23
My Club starts like a hurricane. If I get through the first 4 holes 1-2 over I am usually in good shape. That being said it is not as far skewed front to back score wise as I would assume. fixyurdivot 1 Quote Stealth 2+ 9 (Diamana PD 60 S 45") Stealth 2+ 15 (Diamana PD 70 S 43") G425 19 (Raijin 2.0 85x) G425 22 (Raijin 2.0 85x) ZX7 5-9 (KBS C Taper S) Vokey SM9 45 10 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 49 08 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 55 08 M (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 59 04 T (KBS 610) Spider GT Splitback 34" ProV1 #23 Twitter @THEZIPR23 "One thing Golf has taught me, is that my muscles have no memory." LeftyRM7
When I first started playing a few years back It was pretty common to shoot a handful of shots better on the back. From time to time it would be 8-10 strokes, my worst being 12! A lot of it for me was just not having a lot of confidence early in a round, then I’d get settled in and manage my game much better. Also have to take into account that my home course plays about 2 strokes harder on the front. Back 9 is much more open with fairways running back to back. Front 9 runs through heavy wooded areas, makes tee shots a premium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Kenny B and fixyurdivot
TR1PTIK
I'd say on average my front/back nine scores are about the same, but I have certainly experienced a number of rounds where I can see a back nine improvement upwards of 10 strokes. Usually it's due to some sort of penalty or poor putting on the front nine if I didn't warm up or haven't been practicing at all for a while. fixyurdivot and Kenny B 2 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour
