Haven’t tried it yet but it’s an interesting new piece that could help with club selection for their AI caddie recommendations.

Seriously looking forward to taking a look at that.

Can you provide more details? I have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and have had zero problems on my second season using the watch with Arccos.

My watch is a Classic (2, maybe?). It kept wanting to drop connection & wouldn't advance holes. But maybe it's just the version of watch?

Welcome to MGS.

I have had this same problem with the old and new Links.  If you stand in the spot for a bit longer I find it does get more accurate  I usually set location when I have finished the hole and I set the flag stick back or stand next to it for a longer period. Which is harder when you are still playing the hole with others

It’s a lot better with the Apple watch but it still can be off. The key information is the distance of the first putt for stat purposes.

I usually just check the flagstick locations after my round on the scorecard summary to see 1st putt distances and if they are off I change it by going to that particular hole.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, yes I have been doing this too. Just wasn’t sure if there was some re-calculating of the GPS that needed to happen. Thank you for the input.

Welcome!

Occasionally I have seen issue that are clearly a mapping issue. If you look closely when you are in the green view, you can see the satellite view behind the illustrated green. Sometimes they don't line up very well you have to decide whether you want to putting more accurate or the distance from prior shot to be more accurate and edit accordingly as best you can.

Thank you. Alway want the distance from prior shot to be accurate. Can alway fix the putting issue.

That would be my guess. I', pretty sure Samsung switched from their own home-brewed OS to Google's Wear OS with the release of the 4, so it could be a watch issue.

Agreed. Having putts off by a few feet/yards doesn't seem to have a huge effect on strokes gained and I would imagine it would all average out over time.

We all know one thing - it's not going to go down.

I just wonder how many active paying subscribers they have. Part of the business model must surely be making “data as a service” available to OEMs by Lou and the team. I’m99% sure that’s how Shotscope works. In any event as different options appear I don’t see how Arccos can continue to grow subscription revenue besides raising the rate. Even the notion of something other than the “thou must pay for a year regardless of whether you use it” model would be helpful - I think most shot tracking apps for iOS work on this premise. Being in Canada, with a shortened season compared to many AND (I think) paying a higher currency adjusted sub rate really pushed the value proposition for me. Especially as Shotscope has upped their game year over year. It a confusing long term business model for me unless everyone adopts it - then I wonder how many people will continue to use that model at all. It’s not that hard to record shots on any phone shot tracking app with no sensors etc - V1 game is something that I very nearly came to a happy medium with - reasonable subscription models, enough data for me and a reasonably good experience for the price. But again with $0 subs from Shotscope, my other leaving if I have the sensors and devices.

Hello all new to forum, question for the arrcos users. I have the link, but the GPS is way off when on the greens. I can mark the pin location and make my putts. When I check the app to verify the pin location and putts are off with actual flag.

is there any tips or something I’m doing wrong? Link has good gps signal.

How much is “way off”? GPS can be slow to catch up to me when I walk fast - like after the fourth putt 😆- but if I walk leisurely and linger close enough to my ball or the pin the accuracy of Arccos (and Shotscope) was better on the greens.

I used a teaching pro's Trackman 4 to add my launch data.  After warming up, I hit 3 shots with every club and my ball (Prov1x), printed the data report, and used the club averages for the 8 categories.  The session took about 1.5 hours.  A few shots were edited due to Trackman misreads, but the shot averages were consistent with the Smart Distances.  I have not field tested the updated Info, but expect improved Caddie AI suggestions.

Arccos is an expensive annual membership, but I enjoy the ease of using the technology.  When the subscription increases, I'll evaluate it like I would with my insurance, streaming, and wireless services.  Arccos is not for every golfer, but it works for me. Technology and service companies need to continually innovate and provide value to users so they will renew subscriptions.

The Caddie suggestions from iPhone and Watch varied a few times, but it helped me shoot 77 or net -1 today.

Today I played my first round of golf since coming back Arccos.   I did not have any difficulty that I was aware of.  The only shots Arccos did not pick up, again that I am aware of, is a couple of tap in putts.  I am sure I spent more time than necessary fussing with Arccos on the course today, but I wanted to make sure things were working correctly.  Since I left Arccos last year they have really stepped up their game, especially with the Apple Watch app.  It all seemed really intuitive to me.  Hoping that as I move forward I will continue to enjoy this product.  In a few more rounds I will start looking closely at the date/trends that it is collecting.

Today I played my second round of golf since coming back to Arccos.  Again, I experienced no difficulties or problems.  Like last time, the only shots missed were short, soft, tap in putts.  Using my apple watch for shot detection, I am very happy with the results.  My concern is once the weather gets colder and I have to put on a long sleeve or jacket, my apple watch may not detect all shots  Reviewing Arccos videos they make it plain that the apple watch should not be covered.  How do you guys/gals handle this?  I do have my old Link, but that never really worked well for me, and I do not feel like spending more money for the new one.  One of the reasons I came back to Arccos was what I heard about the Apple Watch app.

You may have to wear your watch outside your jacket sleeve.

It’s has worked under a long sleeve shirt so far, but I haven’t tried it a lot yet. It’s still warm in Canada!

HOw does the Arccos belt clip / caddy work for everyone? I just got it and my first use of it was terrible - missed a ton of shots, constantly had to be updating stuff in the phone. Would have rather just kept the phone in my pocket.

Any potential tips?

If you are using the Link.  You can’t have a jacket on. If you do put it on your pant pocket. Then you can keep the phone in your golf bag.  Let me know if you have any more problems.

@KC Golfhad it outside my pants, clipped to my front right pocket which is where I usually keep my phone. I guess My shirt (which was untucked) was over it for some shots but my phone is usually in my pocket, so didn't think it was that big a deal....

If you are right handed it needs to be on your left pocket.  I put mine halfway down the pocket for best results.  If you have a newer Link tie a cord to it, or drill a hole in the old clip so you won’t lose it on the course.  I lost one of mine that way.

The Link issound connected to verify a shot, so that could be the issue if there is something that is covering the link, etc.  I find using the Apple Watch is a lot better.  I know you probably don’t want to hear that.  But that’s the honest answer.

@KC Golfstupid question, so you use the apple watch in place of the caddie link? And, which Apple Watch do you have?

Yes.  I bought the second gen version of the Link after not liking the first Gen but it was still not great.  So I started using the Apple Watch this year.  I use the Apple Watch 6.  It works great.

@KC Golfyeah...that is what I was worried about. I guess I will return the link and try the watch.

@KC Golfand thanks for everything.

I hope it works out. If you have any questions feel free to ask us.
There are a number of guys on this thread that have far more experience than I do with Arccos. I have only used it for a couple of years.

  • 3 weeks later...

Has anyone else noticed the number of false positives has gone through the roof with the recent update? I'm not entirely sure when the update happened, but I noticed A LOT of detections that weren't real when I played on the 26th. I was tempted to chalk some of it up to it being a CPO day and carrying a bunch of clubs with me everywhere I went, but it has been just as bad in the in the 45 holes I've played since that day. I also noticed a couple shots where it registered the "recommended" club rather than the one I actually used. I never actually pulled the recommended club out of my bag? Anyway, it's a big nuisance to have to delete a bunch of shots, whether it is done real-time or after the fact.

Just thought I would post this year for Apple Watch users.

I had a problem with the Watch crashing at the start of the round.  Arccos said that the Watch Arccos app does not update automatically sometimes, so they suggested removing the app and reinstalling.  Works even better now.

I have not noticed this with my IOS App.  I hope you can get it sorted out.

I know the app updated as I've noticed some different formatting for some of the things. My phone also did a firmware update around the same time, so I suppose it's possible it was my phone, but I'm pretty sure @DiscipleofPenick observed some strange behavior too.

I tried using the watch last week when I forgot my Link. My battery drained incredibly fast using the watch to detect shots. I think I got to hole 13 and my watch was dead. This was a 7 am tee time after charging all night too.

I find if you don't turn off some high battery use apps on your watch, it does drain if you have strong brightness on.  You can assess and improve the battery life with some online tips on saving Apple Watch battery life.
