got one on the way! thanks to testers and Lab golf for enabling the tests. I can’t believe I got this monster rather than the bettinardi tri sole i’ve been lusting after for some time. But because of the testers and my own fitting, as well as playing with the Labs at the PGA store, i’ve got my reasons. It’s gonna be a long month.

I picked up one of these DF2.1's yesterday at PGASS for the first time... and I will say.... I am VERY intrigued.  Granted the mats inside the store aren't the best test for any putter, but I spent about 30 minutes moving through several varieties and kept coming back to this one... the shaft angle may be the reason this finds its way into my bag... with the SC Newport 2.5 in my bag... and expecting to pick up the Jet Set Newport 2 from my shop tomorrow... I have no reason to be considering other putters... except.... this thing ROLLS THE ROCK!  Anyway, I can't wait to hear your results with your new putter MZZZ.

After rolling the Scotty X 5.5 and 9.5, I was close to pulling the trigger on one of those until I got selected to test the DF2.1, and...while the Scotty is a thing of beauty, this thing just instills so. much. confidence over the ball, it's nuts.  It may not be the "one" for everyone, but it sure is for me. 🙂 (that being said, those Jet-Sets are reDICULOUSly beautiful)

Thanks Sam... I felt that way the first touch of the putter... confidence... it was crazy.  The Jet Set may go in a display case on my mantle... while I to to the course and make putts with the DF 2.1.  🙂

I should probably post this on the testers thread... but since I have an audience with you..;)  It looks like the test clubs they sent out had the upgraded shafts (at least your appears to).  Did you talk with the CEO at all about that in your conversation?  What are the gains between the stock shaft and the upgraded shafts?  Obviously... price is quite different... just curious about $/performance ratio... may be an unfair question since you didn't test the stock shaft, but wondered if that came up in your conversation?

While I didn't speak with Sam about that, in particular, I did ask the fitter about their experiences (my fitter currently uses the Mezz with the Accra shaft).  His words, I believe, were that the standard steel was awesome, but the Accra was THAT much better - it was the only one I truly considered, as I wanted to spec the putter out to the closest option I would have chosen if I were ordering with my own money - and the Accra was the only one of the upgrades I would have considered.  That being said, he said the steel shaft that's "standard" was designed for them specifically, and my money would be on the differences being negligible - were I to order today, I would go with it instead of the $100 upcharge (as 'cool' as the Accra is).

In my case the Accra was the recommended shaft with the Mezz so that's what I went with.  My fitter felt it would be a great combo for me.  So far it has not disappointed.

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

my current gamer is a seemore center shaft mfgp2 that i bought years ago because I thought based on my misunderstanding of their sales pitch that the whole point of the seemore was that it stayed true to your path during the stroke. but it doesn’t actually. according to the lab ‘revealer’ face balanced putters open on the back and through stroke. my current opinion is that while my seemore requires me to stabilize the face manually by unconscious micro adjustments, the df just sits there on the line by default waiting for me to do something to eff up my stroke. if my hands are calm, my face is calm, on the df. on the seemore, my hands have to constantly work to hold the face angle. that’s what it feels like to me, anyway. under this line of thinking, master putters like cantlay and smith feel their toe hang face close on the backswing, and they perfectly cancel the opposite force on the through stroke. its a big job and they do it perfectly, while I decidedly do not.  The df just sits there, true to the line, until/unless you eff it up. it’s a different ballgame. at my cc fitting, i holed 7/7 putts with the bettinardi tri-sole toe hang blade, and only 6/7 with the df, but the feeling etched itself into my brain. i’m a one putter kind of guy so the bettinardi was out. unfortunately cc didn’t note my measurements so i wasn’t able to buy from them. i actually had a horrible experience at cc that i will detail at some point once enough time has passes so i can be objective.

as far as the shaft,  i went with stock steel. i may have hit 100 putts over a few days at the pga store with their ‘stock’ df 35”, and I loved the feel. a stepless black kbs that felt like butter,  which enabled superb roll control for me even on those cement mats. i hit so many bombs i was constantly looking around to see if anyone else was watching, which of course no one was.

i was sorely tested by the polar stability shaft, but even though everyone loves that shaft, i haven’t hit 100 putts with it and been impressed, so, I figured why gamble when I’ve got a sure thing in my pocket?

you make a good point. for whatever reason, the df sets up/lines up for me better.

i putt looking at my target, not the ball, so my main thing is that the ball is launching on my intended line. for me, the df did that right away, while the mezz i had a bit of a tendency to pull to the left.

please take this with a grain of salt, experience may vary, putting is different for everyone etc etc and my experience may not map to your experience AT ALL!

in my putting journey, in retrospect, when I was focused on trying to “rock my shoulders” to putt, i had some success with left hand low, but after some improvement I plateaued. i went to the claw with the same motion, and became more accurate <10’ but struggled to be confident on lag putts. at some point i got the idea from somewhere to try to rotate my chest about my spine, and that’s when putting started to become a joy for me. I then discovered I could hit my intended  line better with a stock standard grip, which is where I am today.

with my current mechanics, i can putt all 3 ways, left hand low, claw and standard. I still practice all 3 as a way to maintain my feel for the weight/face angle of the putter head, as well as my ability to consistently generate a center strike on my intended line.

when I go on the course i go to the standard grip.
