I appreciate all the great photos and the bunker with the steps looks crazy. Also I appreciate that Pine Valley has plenty of pine needles all over the ground this time of year.

That bunker is famously called "The Devil's Asshole"

Thankfully, I'm my 3 times playing there, I've never been down there. Did drop a ball in there to see if I could get out.  I could not

Holy Waste Areas....Batman!  What a beautiful time of year to play, the colors are spectacular.

I will admit, I didn't realize the first few pics were the short course, and I'm thnking.   Hmmh, doesn't look too tough to me, I don't know what all the hype is about....ha   Then the prime time event showed up!

The hole you hit to 5 feet and birdied, was the no. 1 handicap right?  Looked like a helluva approach.

LUCKY MAN !!!  And three times, no less!

I regret not being able to play at Pine Valley when I was invited to play there in the early 1990s, which is when I was playing my best golf (6.something handicap).  I had a client and dear friend, long since departed, who was a member at Pine Valley, plus a few other courses in the greater Philadelphia area.  He invited me to play as his guest at Pine Valley, cautioning me that absolutely no business was to be discussed anywhere on the premises (I already knew about this, so it came as no shock to me). We set a date, but when the date arrived it was raining like crazy with plenty of thunder and lightning.  I’m a notorious “mudder” (hey, I’m Scottish-English-Welsh, so I play in virtually any weather), but this day was too miserable for anyone to play golf.  He said not to worry, we would set another date to play.  When he re-scheduled, it was at a different club where he was a member (Country Club of Olde York Road), and we played there about a month later.  It was a nice course, and I greatly enjoyed Stan’s company, but it was no Pine Valley!

On my golf trip to NW England and Scotland this summer, I encountered several bunkers with steps to get in and out of them. A few, particularly at Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale, and Royal Troon, were even deeper than the Devil’s Arsehole at Pine Valley.

I think you should have titled this as a gratuitous photo thread...that course is gorgeous! I'm glad you got to play there and put up a great score. Those waste areas and bunkers look intimidating, especially the Devil's A$&hole. Seeing that set of steps going down in there is just scary.

Thanks for sharing your experience!
