Cost of Your Fitting?

I had an interesting day at the Taylormade Kingdom of Reynolds Lake Oconee. I hit balls with regular Stealth irons and the HD model with several different shafts to include regular and senior flex. The ball used was the TP5 model which is a great ball however I wish they would have had the Tour Response or similar compression ball to use. The fitter knew his stuff and he could tell what lie I needed by marking a ball with a black verticle line and then had me hit it. After only a couple of head swap outs the mark left on the clubface was straight up and down.  1 degree up with 1/2 inch increase in shaft length was the ticket for me. I'll report back after I have had some on-course time with my new Stealth HD irons!

This is the recommended way to fit for lie angle.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the fitting and can't wait to hear how you play!

Thanks buddy I'm excited too!   I texted Taylormade yesterday to ask if they had begun building my new irons and no response.  Called and the message said they were off for the holiday.... 😁

I could actually drive back down there and pick them up as it's only 40 miles away and it shouldn't take long as they had all the components on-site.

Ball Speed    Launch Angle    Landing Angle    Back Spin    Peak Height yds   Carry Distance    Total Distance

I definitely was coming out of my posture ALOT during my fitting so my center strikes were off. Lot's of shots off to the right with poor strikes. Hopefully, these numbers will grow once I can rotate around my spine better. He put me in a senior flex which was definitely an eye-opener.  I guess at 72 years old and my flexibility gone to the shat house brings senior clubs. 🤪

Remember there is no standard for flex. What is senior in one can be regular in another. Flex is only relevant to a shaft line in the same weight class. But also keep in mind the recoils can play stiffer so again it may be their version of senior in this shaft.

Maybe those are just the post fitting results videos 😁.  Enjoy the process and take in everything you can and have lots of fun!

Video editing at it's finest!

I inevitably hit some of the worst shots I've seen from myself in a long time every time I get in front of someone in a hitting bay. I can just hear the store associate's thoughts "has this guy even played golf before?". Once I get a little warmed up and use to them being there, I start hitting them a lot better. Just remember they've seen the full spectrum of swings. I remember going into a club champion when I first started because a friend said I should get fit for clubs early. Went in, hacked it up for about 15 min. The guy very respectfully told me he didn't want my business yet 😆. Recommended I stick with my beginner set and get some lesson to at least get my swing consistent. Didn't charge me for the fitting and I immediately became a repeat customer for that location. Did my putter fitting there a few months ago and it was great.

I think if you're taking up someone's time and not necessarily bringing value to their store, it's perfectly fine to pay a little fee. Something like $50 for an hour fitting is understandable. But if you purchase a set it should be deducted. As long as you purchase something over $500 I guess.

Simple, the golf fittings should be free, especially considering the cost of a driver and irons!

I really have a problem paying a big box store for a fitting. First, I have no confidence in the level of experience the fitter has. Second, I'm not going to a big box fitter... even if it's free. Don't trust them. No level of confidence. Not worth my time.

I’m from Canada but we have an excellent golf academy nearby with fittings at them and I can’t recommend them enough. As a lefty, they had everything I could ever want (I know Canada = hockey = lefties). It was $250 over 2.5 hours going through every club in my bag and any club I could want for my skill level and swing speed. The guys there were super helpful and allowed me to take the spreadsheet they gave me to my home course and order my clubs through them.

Cheers,

Wepps

Did a Titleist fitting for driver 100.00 bought the driver and they took the 100 off the price of the driver.

Was well worth the 100 to get fit out doors and see the ball flight plus they really work with you to get the right setup. Will never do another indoor fitting just not the same go team Titleist.

Heres the short of it:

over 40 years building golf retail from every aspect from A - Z into multi-multi-million dollar totally successful golf businesses which still operate today

Expecting to get something for nothing is the norm we live in today - NOTHING if any true value is free

A true fitter is an expert and should by all means be paid for their time

Did someone put a gun to your head and force you to go get fit

By paying for the fitting, you now have committed to the process which makes you a serious buyer and not a time waster

Businesses cost money to run and wasting someone’s valuable time and not purchasing is basically stealing from that business - but that is the society we live in today - that’s to bad

YES - Charge for fittings - but provide a % credit back once they have purchased the product they were fitted for.

In the golf industry over 40 years.

played since age 8.

Low round 63, 3 rounds at 29.

Expert in most all aspects of the game; equipment, fitting, instruction.

Host golf radio show.

Went for a Driver, Woods, and Irons fitting today with Pure Science Golf in Clearwater Florida... and it was amazing and under $200...

Worked with their Master Club Fitter Robby Richardson who was brilliant... By the end of the fitting, I was crushing everything he put in my hand and loved the decision I made...

-Mizuno MP 245's 4I thru GW
