jbern
I have three ranges that are pretty close to work or home. The cheapest one is $5 for 36-40 balls. They have a mat area and a grass area that is only open during certain times. Another is $6 for a small bucket (40 balls) $10 for a large bucket (80 balls), but always has the grass area open for use. The last is $8 for 30 balls, $12 for 50 balls, $15 for 80 balls, BUT getting a bucket of balls also gives you access to their practice area, which is awesome (large putting greens, chipping area and sand area)! The balls at all ranges are cheap, old, deteriorating range balls. I try to save the best/newest ones for driver, but sometimes there aren't any. bens197
Rochester, NY has a few options. The most popular is $12 for about 75 balls. $20 for 150. Grass range about 20 minutes from home is $12 or $16 (I can't recall) for 80 balls. The popular option has a top tracer range similar to a top golf setup with a full bar has unlimited balls for 1 hour with the top tracer and that costs $45 for one hour. Rob Person
The GC I work at has 1 size for the token, but you pay per amount wanted. The machine is not setup for payments. 1 token is $12, 2 tokens is $20. Each token gets you approximately 75-80 balls. We also replace the balls every 2 years. The driving range closer to me recently changed to a card only ball vender, no tokens can be bought, and you can select size on the screen. Small $10 (30-35 balls) med is $15 (65-70 balls), large is $20 (approximately 100 balls) Trevor613 1 Quote WITB- Driver -Titleist 910D, 3w- Titleist 910F, 5hy/7hy- Titleist 910H, 6-PW - Stix , 52⁰, 56⁰, 60⁰ - Stix , Putter- AI-ONE DB / Lombardi Tour 34 custom Just an old newbie golfer, trying to learn and improve 1 club at a time. rcookwv
One downside to living in the country is the nearest driving range is almost an hour away. That range charges $15 per hour and you have to take a cart up to the driving range once you get there, it is a pain. A good thing about living in the country is having enough room to put my own driving range in at my house it is not perfect but it is very nice to be able to hit every club in the bag and never have to leave the house. Trevor613
The main range that I go to uses yellow Bridgestone balls that have been "governed" so that we don't hit them past the fence. You could say we're the beta test for a rolled back ball! The feel of these balls is not great, but they are kept in good shape and the bad ones are weeded out regularly. They have a machine that disperses the balls and the cost is around $8 for a small (about 35 balls), $12 for a medium (50 to 60 balls), and $16 for a large (80 to 90 balls). The mats are fairly new and they refresh them every few years. The other range I will occasionally go to uses normal balls from every brand and model that have most likely been fetched from ponds or woods. You'll get an occasional dud with a huge slice in the cover. A large bucket with about 75 balls is $13...but it is cash ONLY! The mats aren't in great shape and the entire place could use a full renovation, but you're hitting full shots with real balls to decent targets. Coulter
A couple of years ago a man in his 70s? decided to turn his cow pasture into a driving range about 20 minutes from my house. He is a PGA pro named John Hearnes I believe and still gives lessons and spends his day up in the little shop he had built on the range with his Boxer. Last year he bought new Bridgestone practice balls and raised the price of each bucket of balls by $2 making the total come out to $11 for a large bucket. This range is hands down the best one around me. I get free balls at the club I’m a member at and still only use that range to warm up before a round. Any time I go to the range it is Mr. Hearnes range that I head to. Rob Person 1 Quote I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag. Link to comment
Clubs by Buzz
$12 for a member size bucket 80ish balls. $14 for a large. 120ish balls. $60 per month for unlimited balls plus $30 GF& cart after 3:00PM. For an avid golfer the value far exceed monthly fees. Hit a bucket of balls and play after 3 on Sunday the saving is about $40. It's an easy ROI. If you practice once a week or more, check out the clubs/course player development options. You can save a bunch. Just make sure the course isn't so busy you can't book a teatime. Cheers.
