Yup, I think more and more better players are moving to more forgiving irons they can still work if needed. Especially long irons. I know it is a Hot Take but I see no reason anyone (other than just for the joy of it) should be playing MB's when many Players Irons offer everything a MB can do but with added forgiveness on slight mishits. Grand those that grew up with MB's, especially at the highest level might be reluctant to change but even Rory the last player to need more distance, is playing more forgiving long iron with a Stealth Uni and a P760 4 iron. Yup, I'll never understand why a pro wouldn't look at a CB instead of an MB if the CB does everything the MB does but gives more forgiveness on those not-so-perfect strikes, which do happen to pros. bens197
If there was one point that would summarize my thought on this set it was how incredibly forgiving the longer irons play. I shared several 4 iron swings that were not “instagram v reality” because quite honestly, it became so fun to hit knowing I could make the same swing and hit it nearly on center every time. Just like when many started to put hybrids in their bag. Once it was rare and now almost everyone has at least one. There is no stigma anymore and really it’s a results driven game. After going through it, I’m pretty sure I can’t go back to hitting into a net and relying on LM data to tell me if the clubs are right. When I tested, it was between Mizuno 223’s and the T100’s. The Mizuno’s are incredible irons but these were flat out better. They were so much more precise and for the first time in my golfing career, I had incredible confidence with my irons. It was not uncommon to play 18 and hit 13 or 14 greens in a round. I haven’t played this well in years and it’s because of the T100. It's a very good club, but for whatever reason it's just a very hit and miss club for me. ... If we all loved the same things what a crazy crowded place the world would be. But if I start playing some other irons, the T200 5 iron will still be in my bag. I may eventually play some different short irons like the Cobra King Tours but the 7-5 T200's are just silly good for my swing. I had 215yds for my second shot on a par 5, a little uphill but a 5mph wind at my back and never considered anything but my T200 5i. Came up just short of the green but I just have so much confidence in that iron I was fine with that. Just a bummer that amazing iron is giving you trouble. I'm sure there are plenty of options that are high enough quality it wouldn't hurt. The Titleist was great because it was on a range with Pro V1s. The fitter asked if I wanted to know the tweaks or clubs I was hitting or just go blind, I went with the blind trust route. He was measuring my old irons while I hit top, my lie angle on old clubs were all flat. After few hits he shifted me into 1up and changed shafts and it was like I was playing a new sport. We proceeded through my longer irons and seeing my 4 iron return to a high piercing flight felt great. They had different size grips for each shaft too which I hadn't seen before. All in all it was my best fitting from a leaving confident I had got them right and not the feeling of I'm going to be in the wrong clubs in a few weeks. He also recommended Pro V1x to help raise my spin numbers and I haven't gone back. chisag, StrokerAce and GolfSpy_BEN 2 1 Quote Ian Lydon Driver: Callaway Rogue 9.5 3W: Cobra LTDx 3H: Callaway XR 16 Pro Irons: Titleist T100 (2023) PW-6, Titleist T200 (2023) 5-4 Wedges: Sub 70 (52 and 58 Tester) Putter: Ping Anser G2
DonnieGolfs
1 hour ago, GolfSpy_BEN said: The Titleist fitting experience is second to none. After going through it, I’m pretty sure I can’t go back to hitting into a net and relying on LM data to tell me if the clubs are right. Getting fit on a range, where the flight shape and distance can be observed, is critical to my comfort with the clubs. I have a hard time with sim fitting too because the ball flight just isn't reinforced the same when you see it flying. The feedback isn't the same.
