Callaway Chrome Tour

Has anyone played this ball lately?

I just picked up a sleeve from PGA store and im looking for a little something more, (mainly spin and control) around the greens without losing distance off the tee due to an overly spinny ball.....i used to love the CSX but it was too high spin off the tee......i love the prov1 i currently game but i dont get enough stopping power 30 yards and in......the guy at the store recommended this but has never heard of the LEFT DOT (he kept correcting me to left DASH and didnt understand there was another ball called left dot), so I am not too confident in his recommendation.

if not this ball, any suggestions for me?

Not the Chrome Tour, but I bought a dozen Chrome Tour X and so far they have performed really well compared to the Pro V1x I usually use.

They're definitely worth a try to see if you get the performance you are looking for from them.  Personally, I find them to be miles better than the Chrome Soft lineup.

... I had some credit with Callaway and picked up a dozen Chrome Tours because I like knowing how all the premium balls play and I enjoyed their performance. Similar to Maxfli Tours for my game which can be purchased $109 for 4 dozen. I probably would have bought 4 dozen Chrome Tours with their $164.98 for their buy 3 dozen get 1 dozen free promotion but they only offered it with the triple track, which I really, REALLY don't like. So I purchased the same deal on the Taylor Made TP5x in regular ole white.

I've tried both the Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X and really liked the performance of both. The durability was really the only issue for me, with some of these balls getting nicked throughout the round and having to be replaced without hitting any major obstacles (cart path, tree, etc.). The feel off the clubface was my biggest pro for both of these balls.

i was shocked to see what you wrote about the spin numbers of the CT.......this is supposed to be the lower spinning ball....not sure why you saw the opposite.   Thanks for the review

I found that the Chrome Tour X was just a livelier ball. I don't know why the CT had higher spin numbers, I even enlisted the help of @Derek Eskam when I tested the balls and we both saw the same numbers on several sessions with different Trackman simulators. We both love the CTX over the CT and based on "on course" performance it was no contest. I like the CTX so much it is in my bag now. I do still play Titleist PV1X and left dash but the CTX is the first choice. That's not to say the CT is a crappy ball, I just prefer the CTX by a long way over the CT.

Chrome Tour and Tour X are very good balls. I would say they are much better than the Chrome soft line up, although I did like the LS. Both balls performed very well. The original white box test, I leaned towards the Tour, but after playing them for a while, no doubt the X is the better ball for me. Maybe it was the 2 near HIO and the actual HIO with the white box Tour X that swayed me. ***I had an incredible month or so of ball striking*** My gamer is still the Maxfli Tour and Tour X though. I didn't find the Chrome Tour line to be better than Maxfli. The value of the Maxfli is hard to beat. I will say Callaway did join the ranks of the elite ball manufacturers with this line.

Is there a ball 30y in that you get enough stopping power? Like you hit a prov1 then X ball and that one just hits and stops?

Just saying cause while prov1 may not be the most spinniest ball from 30y in, it also aint on the bottom of its class. Which means it not going to be a drastic difference between it and whomever is the spinniest from 30y in.

Personally I like the feel of prov1 and CT 30y in. Just has that feel of the ball sticking to the wedge ever so slightly longer even tho it does not mean it adds spin. The prov1x and CTx on paper should spin more from 30y in.

But I prefer CTx for the game overall. I like a firmer feeling ball as I move up to irons, woods, and like a firmer ball for putting acoustically.

Funny how different testers had different results. For me, the Tour X was just too spinny through the test. On the course I found it affected by wind on medium to short approach shots and on the sim saw higher spin numbers with driver. I need all the help I can get to keep spin numbers down with driver.

The Tour suited my game best and is neck and neck with the TP5X in most categories. Lately I've been rolling the Tour great on the greens and playing well with it overall. I'm curious to try the X again this summer just to see if I'm still of the same opinion on-course.

In testing for me, the X was a little too lively and putting with a milled face putter the feel for distance just wasn't there as it was with the Tour. The Tour spins enough for me with wedges and approach iron shots.

But like a lot of things, it comes down to personal preference and what feels and plays how you like/want the ball to.

... Exactly why I mentioned the TP5x in my post. The TP5x, Chrome Tour and Maxfli X are basically interchangeable for my game. One of my playing pards lives in Tampa and is a looooong hitter. He played the Chrome LS and visiting me here in Phoenix he picked up some Chrome Soft X and lost about 20yds off the tee. Spun waaaay too much for him. I gave him a sleeve of Chrome Tours and he loved them, no surprise since he loved the previous LS version.

Yeah, I tried the old Chrome LS for a while but they felt a little 'heavy' compared to the TP5X. The Chrome Tour is fortunately a big step up in feel and performance for me.

The only modern maxfli balls I've tried are the Tour (non X) after I received a free sleeve of them. I was impressed with the feel and performance, but I plan on picking up a sleeve of Maxfli Tour X to try out too. It's encouraging seeing a number of people on here enjoying them and you're not the first person I've seen say they're up with the more expensive premium tour balls.

Maxfli is the best value. Hands down. I lose nothing when playing either the Tour or Tour X. The X has more spin, so I use it on less windy days, it is longer by a couple yards as well.

if not this ball, any suggestions for me?

I've been gaming the Chrome Tour this season. Last season I swapped back and forth between the Chrome Soft X LS and the Left Dash. The XLS was a little too much spin for me overall and the Left Dash flew a little too high for me. I whitebox tested the Left Dots and loved it. The Chrome Tour isn't exactly the Left Dot, but it's a lot closer than either the Left Dash or the XLS.

Compared to either XLS or Left Dash, the Chrome Tour flies significantly lower and flatter and has lower long game spin. Short game spin, it's pretty comparable to XLS and definitely more spin than Left Dash. It's low(er) compression comparatively, but still plenty of ball speed.

Mostly an aside, but I randomly pulled a sleeve of Maxfli Tour X's for a quick evening 9 tonight and immediately wanted to swap back to Chrome Tour. I've routinely seen ~290 off the tee with Chrome Tour and was around 275-280 tonight with Maxfli Tour X. It's not a perfect comparison, of course, because the X is going to be much spinnier, but for me, the Chrome Tour is a great fit.

I played the Chrome tour this past weekend and tbh, its another dud for me in terms of being better for me......it was not noticeably longer or shorter off the tee...the mid irons were nothing special....even feel was middle of the road. right around the greens, the spin was not high enough so stopping a chip was tough for me.....Its not a bad ball but it just wasnt better.....to me the best ball Callaway has made is the CSX

I've played 4 rounds so far with the Chrome Tour after usually playing the ProV1 and I gotta say i'm hooked. I'm looking for minimal spin off the tee and these help with that, but I'm able to spin the ball quite a bit in the wedges and get the ball to stop when I need to. I like a feel a little on the softer side and these feel amazing - I tried the left dash a while back, and while they sent off the tee, I didn't like that with irons if felt like hitting a rock to me. Biggest difference is the added distance. a well hit driver is going noticeably farther and irons are maybe half a club longer. highly recommend giving them a try

I actually bought some SC tours and it didnt work for me at all.....i was disappointed.....The current Prov1 still hits the trajectory i like, but i need a little more distance.....the feel os the CS tour was ok but prov1 was better all over for me

Got some free samples of the ball, usually play the AVX and found this to play just as well for me. Little firmer and spinier for me but would game it at the right price

I’ve mentioned a few times on different threads within the forum, but I absolutely loved their LS ball … for me, it’s been the best ball for my game.

A very close 2nd behind the LS is the Maxfli Tour X and I’m just about through their large 4 dzn box (for the price of 3) … and will be buying the Chrome Tour X’s large box 4 dzn for 3 price set this wknd. Excited to try them out.

Lastly, I still cannot get over how great a ball the Maxflis are at their price point … they’ve stolen my business from Vice and Snell.

I love the Callaway Chrome Tour ball. I used to play the Chrome Soft, but will continue to buy the Chrome Tour.
Although it may not be the longest ball out there, I have been getting great distance out of it. The softness/feel is very similar the original chrome balls, but I have received more spin on approach shots.
Occasionally it launches higher than I personally like, and can get caught up in the wind.

Overall, I highly recommend this ball and it is worth the price. For reference , I am a 7 handicap and I average about 285 with driver.
