Mrs.Manbearpig
Not sure how I came across this but seriously?! Michael Jordan banned from golf course for wearing cargo shorts By Houston Mitchell November 29, 2012, 7:38 a.m. Michael Jordan may be the greatest player in NBA history, but even he can't get away with wearing cargo shorts on a golf course. Jordan showed up at La Gorce Country Club in Miami on Wednesday wearing cargo shorts, which is against the dress code at the facility. Apparently no one noticed until he played a few holes of his round, because while on the 12th hole, Jordan was approached by club personnel who asked that he return to the clubhouse and change his pants. Jordan refused. (It would have been great if Jordan said, "I can't hear you over the sound of my six NBA rings.") Jordan then was asked to never return to the club. Which seems a bit harsh. A representative of Jordan released the following statement: "Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants. He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code. This time, he was made aware of the violation on the 12th hole, and at that point he did refuse to interrupt his game, and return to the clubhouse and change. We were not aware that he is not allowed to return to La Gorce. I guess it's their loss -- as MJ is a great golfer, and a great guest." Link to article home So I understand that golf courses have dress codes but and a certain look is wanted on the golf course, but seriously?! I don't think Michael Jordan is going to be poorly dressed to begin with and to lose the status of a HUGE celebrity playing at your golf is kind of a silly thing to pushing. That's just my opinion. Thoughts?
Moecat
I'm not sure what makes cargo shorts "objectionable" attire for a "nice" golf course? So what if there are pockets outside?

skihippy
This is stupid and could have been handled very differently. revkev
I saw this headline and was wondering what it was about. Now I know. Thanks Mrs. MBP. Seems very different from any club that I've ever been at including the one I caddied at as a kid - good clubs only deal with their members who are always responsible for the behavior of their guests. RoverRick
Cargo Shorts?! Get a rope! Hell, my club will let you play if you violate the dress code, but will ask that you not wear that next time. I assume repeated offenses my get you booted. I really do not know because it was so hard to play golf in a pink tutu I did not wear it again. With nothing under it, it was breezy too. RR you must be feeling good right now Hope your treatment is going well. As for this club, sounds like they would get along very well with the USGA right about now. Those cargo shorts aren't in the spirit of the game and are a competitive advantage over shorts with less pockets. RoverRick
RR you must be feeling good right now Hope your treatment is going well. RPJIII is undergoing treatment. My problem is lack of adult supervision, wife will not be home tonight so I drank my supper, I mean I had dinner at the club after golf this afternoon. Actually, I simply had a few beers (5 from 3 until 8), so sadly I am responsible for my actions. GolfSpy WD
Michael pissed someone off, bottom line, and they wanted to b*tch-slap him publicly in an attempt to humiliate him. My club has the same rule regarding cargo shorts, though if someone(clubhouse employee, golf employees, guest's member or another member) has not informed the guest prior to teeing off, it is understood the it is QUIETLY & DISCREETLY brought to the member's attention FOLLOWING the round. This said, no one would even get to the first tee in cargo shorts..LOL. Someone would discreetly & quietly inform the guest"s member to have the guest make the appropriate change of attire. The way this was handled was bush league & very tacky, and without knowing a damn thing about this club, trust me, it aint a top tier club, I don't care how much it costs to join or play. Money can't buy class & whether you're a MJ fan(I happen to be)or not, that was a classless way to handle this situation. Great post Nidine! Fairways & Greens 4ever +1 (except for the MJ fan part, though he is an awesome basketball player) Based on reputation, they probably really wanted him out and there was no other good way to do it. It's kinda like nabbing Al Capone for tax evasion. @GolfSpy_WD

jayhawker
Pshshsh dress codes? What are those? Never heard of em. The course I played at over the summer had one rule...shirts required. The rest I guess was just implied. I did see an old guy once play the whole round behind me with his shirt off, then put it back on when coming in sight of the clubhouse. RookieBlue7
It just reinforces the fact that celebrities are treated differently lots of times. He showed up in cargos and someone gave him a pass to start. A member saw him and complained so they had to take action. He's not above the dress code, IMO. Ever heard the story of Bill Gates first trip to Augusta? He shows up at the airport with his clubs and shorts on. The driver told him they had to stop and get pants. Gates says he'll buy some at the course. The driver explains that he can't take him on the property with shorts on. He goes in the Augusta Wal-Mart and buys pants to wear onto the grounds. People in that Wal-Mart were in line with a multi-billionaire and likely never knew it. Shambles
Rules are rules. That business with the cargo shorts is also enforced at my home course and in other courses around me, along with other dress codes. Thing is, it's so commonly followed that some people get away with wearing them on the course sometimes, especially if they wear them neatly. MJ simply got hit by the technicality. Any club wants a sense of decorum and order within it's premises. Members and guests contribute to that by dressing appropriately to make the general atmosphere more pleasant for more people.
