Favorite Golf Hole Ever Played, and One You Want to Play Badly

Recommended Posts

Favorite I ever played is the 16th at La Quinta Mountain course.  The view from the tee is incredible and birding the hole from the sand left of the hole didn't hurt:)

YES on Pebble #8. No other better test of golf when its breezy or windy. #14 at Spanish Bay, for me, is one that puts a smile on my face.

#8 is a test off the tee, and to the green when there's wind in play. The 1st shot seems benign from the tee box, until you get to your ball and then the "cheek squeezing" begins. 🙂 Club selection and being able to flight the ball are critical.

I'd love to play any hole at Pine Valley. However, having played all the Pebble Beach courses, aside from Cypress, I feel fairly content.

Favorite I’ve played is easily #2 at the Country Club of Rochester. Downhill  slight L to R par 5. It’s 517 from the back so what makes this great is a postage stamp green surrounded by bunkers and Allen’s Creek. A newly added bunker doesn’t allow you to hug the right treeline. I love love love this hole.

One that I want to play?  Has to be 1 at Bethpage Black. I’m a simple guy. I’d love a photo of the sign in the foreground and me on the box.

There are 2 back to back and they are not the greatest holes or the most scenic, but I have a lot of history with them and they follow 2 holes I really never got on with. Holes 17 and 18 at the Chester Golf course in Nova Scotia. They are preceded by 15 a long double dog leg part 5 with a silly hill in the landing area, blind second shot and 3rd to a elevated and hard sloped green. 16 is a longer par 3 with run offs the front and back and two bunkers on either side. Just getting it on the short grass is hard.

However after that you land on 17. A par 4 with elevated tee box going down towards the ocean. When I first started playing there it was always driver, as I got better it required more thinking and depending on the time of year it could be 5 iron because of how dry it would get.. The green is tucked behind a group of birch trees and depending on the player or time of year sometimes you can squeeze over or through. This also leads right back towards the ocean where you start your round. The green has some really fun pins and it is all OB on the right. It makes you think, plan and execute your shots in order to score well. Sadly the photo really doesn't do it justice.

This has always been a favorite of mine. Then 18 comes. You tee off from sea level and for the longer hitters it can be driven, however us mortals get to pick how much we want to chew off. To the right is all ocean and marsh land (The background of my profile is of this hole). If you take your drive straight and long you are on the side of a hill with a really awkward stance. The green slops back to front making downhill putts super fast and tricky. Again not a particularly hard hole, but one that has a true decision off the tee and placement for your second shot. It is a great way to finish off the round. This also happens to be the course where I shout my best ever score of 72 (par 70) and went par birdie on these last two holes.

They really do. The best part is there is some for everyone. From the getaway at Canton and links at ben eoin (highly underrated), to Northumberland links and very private accessible fox harbor to local Halifax courses (brunello, Ashburn old and new, glen arbour, aspotogan, lost creek and more)

https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-courses/north-america/canada/nova-scotia?page=1

It's a easy place to find a lot of good courses.

Definitely not my favorite, but a hole I NEED to play again. 3rd hole at the Pete Dye Challenge at Mission Hills Country Club. Played in a 2 day tournament in 2005 and was awarded a 13 on this hole. Needless to say, I didn't win a skin there nor was I in contention for anything...to top it off I had the pleasure of answering the dreaded "what happened there?" question. One day, I'll have my revenge. #stillabitbitter

My favorite hole has to be number 4 at Golden Ocala. I think that's the replica of the postage stamp at Royal Troon, it has been awhile since I played there. Followed in a close second the Barge green at Coeur D'alene golf course.

There are a few courses/holes I want to play on my bucket list. 18 at Pebble Beach and 17 at TPC Sawgrass are probably at the top of my list.

It seems like this may have turned into the most famous hole you e ever played. So there mine would be 17 at Sawgrass.

My favorite hole ever was the 14th at LaGrange Country Club, now Heron Creek and on the front 9, in Lagrange, Indiana. It was a course where I played lots of comfort I’ve golf. This is a great risk reward par 5, double dogleg left first, right second OB left, pond in front of the green, bunkers and OB long.

It was 510 from the back but if you hit it down the left side with a draw or were long enough to carry the corner of the trees the ball would kick down a hill and leave between 225 to 190 in from a hanging lie over the pond.

3-7 were all in play, all the time - great golf hole.

Par three, Cabot Cliffs, Number 16, Inverness, Cape Briton, Nova Scotia, CA.  One beautiful view and a tough little shot.  Played it before it was open to the public.

If you love #8 at Pebble Beach as I do, then you’ll have to try 18 at Whistling Straits.  It is the ultimate hole in golf.  You hit from as close to the cliff as you dare drive it, then have a do or die shot to the three lobe green.  No matter where the pin is, you’d better have your A+ game with you, especially if you’ve had a great round up until you reach 18.  Truly a monster challenge which, if you make par, will make you think you’re the greatest golfer on the planet.

My favorite was the first at the Old Course.  The hole itself isn't anything special, a hundred-yard wide fairway, a tiny wee creek in front, simply.  But to be there, you've gone through a bunch of hoops.  You've walked around the town, and you're standing right in front of the R&A clubhouse.  If you get to play this hole, you get to play all the rest.  Its one of the best experiences in golf.

I agree. I was lucky enough to play once in some light rain. It is something that I will never forget. Just hitting and walking and smiling and smiling and smiling.

Favorite golf hole I have played is number 8 at Pebble Beach. It is a beautiful hole with a tough green to hit when the wind is blowing! The golf hole I would love to play is number 16 at Augusta National with the Sunday pin position.
