Bulldog
Costco has generated some buzz in the golfing community in recent years, both with Kirkland branded balls and clubs, and with name brand golf products in the online store. Additionally, some Costco warehouse stores have a larger selection of golf products than others. This thread is for those who want to share information on products, availability, experiences, informal reviews, rumors, and anything else related to Costco golf items. Bulldog
When the Kirkland Irons showed up on the USGA conforming list in January, there was a lot of buzz. Rumor was they would come out this spring (2023). When searching the USGA Conforming database now, I don't see the Kirkland irons anywhere. I've looked under "Kirkland", "SM Global" (manufacturer of the current v. 2 Kirkland wedges), and "Southern California Design Company" (manufacturer of the v. 1 Kirkland wedges). There's a lot of work and expense in developing a new set of irons, even if you contract it out like the wedges. Could it be that Costco has pulled the irons because they are too similar to some other irons made by one of the big club manufacturers? fixyurdivot
The thread title definitely drew me in. I'm pretty confident a good many of us would never have thought to see the likes of Srixon, Mizuno, and Taylormade products being offered through Costco. But, for stock, off-the-shelf sticks, why not? Marketing is marketing and saturating the market with ones products to drive sales is key to profit. We'll know they've moved the needle when PGASS, Dicks, and Golf Galaxy start offering hotdogs, brautwursts, and pizza by the slice. Golf2Much
Living in Key West, we don't get to "America" very often. Last weekend I was part of a Florida State Golf Association team that rated the new Greg Norman Shell Bay Golf Course in Hallandale, Florida. Because it's a five plus hour drive up there, I actually drove up the night before and stayed overnight at a hotel in Florida City. with nothing to do, I did the most American thing I could do: I drove to the closest Costco and joined. I got there about 7 pm, got my card and strolled around. I couldn't believe how many people, especially families, were shopping late on a Friday night. The only golf related items they had in the store were the four golf gloves for $20. Unfortunately, I don't use a glove. As I made my way to the front, I realized that many were there not to buy items, but to have dinner. Almost like a Friday date night at Costco! After paying for my two $40 compact camp chairs, I stopped at their food court. It was packed. Here's what I had for dinner: A 1/4 pound hot dog, soda (with a refill) and a slice of pepperoni pizza for $3.73 (including tax). No wonder everyone was there to eat. You wonder how they can do that!? It was really good. Bulldog
Rumor Alert! James Robinson, of YouTube golf fame, just released a video in which he says that Costco will release a Kirkland driver and a set of Kirkland irons. The driver's rumored price will be $199.99 and will look similar to the Titleist TSR2. The rumored price for the irons will be $499.99 for a set that will look like crop of current hollow body, blade looking irons. He indicates that the release date will be November 1 of this year. That seems an odd date to release new golf clubs, as least in the northern hemisphere. However Costco has a history of selling products long before their normal season. Previously the wedges were done by Indi, but Indi is owned by Southern California Design Company...so there may be a new company name assigned to make the irons. Roger that, but there are two searchable fields in the USGA database. One is for manufacturer, and one is for product name. Searching for "Kirkland" does find the v.1 and v.2 Kirkland wedges under product name, but no other Kirkland clubs are shown. And I'm still confused as to why the Kirkland irons no longer show there. I looked them up myself when the articles about the irons came out back in January. Now the link for the irons in the USGA database goes to page with this: "Make sure to search one manufacturer or one model. Please return to the previous screen and try your search again."
