Fitness Goals: Helping Each Other Reach Our Goals

Recommended Posts

Had a decent workout this morning. I think I did something a little wrong when doing squat to presses because my upper back is feeling a little off and I shouldn't really be using my upper back for that workout. I'll do a lot of stretching throughout the day and hopefully it's a nothing.

Didn't weigh in this morning, but I've been doing pretty well on the calorie intake front.

Got a workout in this morning. I started a new program called "Prime, Pump and Burn." It has a nice setup based on the first workout and I'm looking forward to the rest of them.

Also, my back seems to be back to normal today, which is great news! I was a little concerned yesterday when I was feeling some weird pain.

Weighed in at 196.0.

I was chasing my 5 year old around the yard yesterday after playing a really good 9 holes.  I got tripped up on the edge of the patio…fell in to a patio chair.  Right side/ribs , going to the ER in a bit make sure it’s nothing serious.  I’ll most likely have to take some time away from working out.  Which really stinks, I’m in the best shape that I have ever been in.  I’m in my forties, I shouldn’t be chasing anyone around.

Ribs are the worst! Stock up on Claritin / Allegra - no sneezing!!! It's been a while since I've had a ribcage injury, but I remember how painful and debilitating they are. Keep doing what you can tolerate pain wise - atrophy happens quickly doing nothing (outside of the first couple of days). Prayers for a speedy recovery!

Last week my wife was out of town, and I ended up taking all of last week off from everything as I morphed into an unpaid Uber Driver. No tracking, no workouts, no nothing. It was kinda nice, except I kept catching myself going overboard snacking on the kid section of the pantry. Friggin Welch's fruit snacks, I can torch a whole box of those before you know what's happening. Got back into it yesterday with the first of the last two weeks of FFG.

After the next two weeks I am going back to my four day split focusing on strength, but I am going to incorporate several of the rotational exercises from FFG into my routine.

Lol my weight fluctuates quite a bit from day to day - hydration and size of the loaf that is pinched affect it! I had a 10# swing in three days a few weeks ago that really threw me for a loop!

Haven't been on this thread in awhile. Big bummer about your rib @Owengeorge13! I fractured a rib back at the beginning of May and it is brutal! My recovery time back to relatively normal activity was about 25 days, but it was almost 6 weeks until all of the soreness and discomfort went away. Hopefully your recovery time is even speedier!

I have been keeping up with my Tonal workouts and have the final workout of a two week strength program tomorrow (schedule for tomorrow @0530 before the kids wake up). I've been doing pretty well on not jumping into too many snacks, but have not weighed myself in a long while. I'll have to try to remember to do it when I wake up tomorrow morning.

I also started a golf training program and the first few days have been back to the basics! The first 2 days were strictly focused on addressing the ball and grip and not moving the club at all. It's a very interesting approach to evaluating my golf swing!

Today's Workout: FFG Week 12/12 Velocity B - One more workout left! https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/16338757379

Monday's Workout - FFG Week 12/12 Velocity A - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/16303547206

Didn't do much tracking over the long weekend and stepped on the scale at 188.9. Again, mostly water weight and poop, as I'm back in the 183's today. But having a 7# swing over the weekend is a little eyebrow raising when it happens. Just have to make sure that I don't have 4 consecutive cheat days on long holiday weekends! Monday's workout was short, as I was gassed. I went hard over the weekend - a 4 mile run on July 4th followed by a couple hours of pickleball and kickball (finished the day with 22,560 steps), golf on the 5th, a trip to the drive in on the 6th with pickup football, golf on the 7th, and a baseball game on the 8th. I got halfway done with my squats and decided that half the sets on all the exercises was enough, I didn't want to hurt myself.

Two days of walking…

feeling better, still pretty tender.  Going to hit balls at a driving range tomorrow.  Signed up to play nine holes on Sunday afternoon.  Net championship is in two weeks at my golf club.  I’ve come in 4th two years straight I thought this would be my year.  I’m hoping to play/make the cut this year…

I followed the TB12 diet for ten days and I think it did wonders for my rib fracture.  Tomorrow will be 14 days since the injury

Walk on treadmill…

I also went to the range today.  I only hit PW and 8 iron.  Mostly half swings.  Had some really bad shots, it started to come together in the end.  I also sneezed at the range I almost had to lay on the ground for a couple of minutes.  I think I’m about three weeks away from making a powerful swings.  Playing nine holes on Sunday afternoon , I’m guaranteed to shoot better when having a fractured rib.

Peer pressure, maybe? .. got an old buddy with all kinds of hip, knee, ankle issues to start walking; he's been going fairly regularly. Plus - he and his wife are down here visiting for the weekend (50th HS Reunion) and he says he's gonna start biking (!) so gave him an extra bike sitting in my garage.

I have purposely stayed away from this thread due to back surgery ( June 26th) and just wanting to follow drs orders with just doing nothing but get up and move and short walks. Just shy of 3 weeks post op, I am feeling pretty good considering where I was 8 weeks ago. My walks are still short, but my recovery from those walks is soooo much less than it was just a week ago. I've made a couple of .6-.8 mile walks and would be down for the rest of the day and the next day. If I did anything other than sit or lay on the couch i was very un-comfortable for at least a day. Last Saturday my daughter flew in from Chicago. We parked and I walked into and around the airport. I don't know how far but I'd guess 1/2 mile. Then we went home and the wife started doing yard work. I grabbed the pruners and clipped a few branches off one of our trees in the back yard. Got yelled at by the family for doing something. We then went out and had a few drinks my daughter wanted to go too. After that was a get together with some official friends and got home later than I wanted. This day took a lot out of me and I was really tired yesterday but I wasn't hurting like before, more like just tired muscles. This tells me my body has turned another page into getting back to normal life. I'm not pushing it but getting excited to do things again. PT, work outs and then golf. Not to mention I have football season and since we are well below numbers for officials I hate missing games.

I bought a Garmin S70 in May. I'll need to look up the rest of its capabilities other than golf.

My weight is dropping as well. All I'm doing is trying really hard to change my eating habits. In May I was 254 LBS. I stepped on the scale a few days ago and it read 237 LBS. Super stoked.

Awesome work and glad yo hear your recovery is going well! My best friend had to have back surgery a couple of years ago for a slipped disc. He was borderline bed ridden before the surgery and has fully recovered. It sounds like you are well on your way to recovery. I hope the best for you! You are doing amazing work so far and it's incredible that you're already down 17 pounds!

@JFish350 - Glad to hear that your recovery seems to be going well. Great that you're down weight, even with the limited mobility! Keep up the great work!

Personally, I have been keeping up with my program Tonal workouts, but the new program I've been on for a couple of weeks is 3 days a week. I think I prefer 4 or 5 days per week to be able to start the days with exercise more often. I've also been working on a golf training program and it's very interesting because it's almost entirely focused on hitting positions and flexibility. I haven't played a ton of golf lately, now that my LAB DF3 testing is slowing down, but we shall see how it translates to the course.

Weight has been fluctuating between 194.6 and 198, so not a lot of progress there.

1. Functional fitness routine/jog treadmill 5k

2. walk double stroller 4 miles

Rib is feeling better, still sore in the morning.  Going to try and start back up on LiiFT4 next Monday.  I’ve played 9 holes twice.  Going to try and play a quick 9 tomorrow morning and another 9 Friday afternoon.  Although I didn’t score terribly, I’m not where I need to be to participate in my clubs championship this weekend.  Looks like I’ll be sitting this year out.

Sorry, That's a bummer missing the club championship. Work all year and then have to moss it. Hope you heal up with no issues.
