Picking shafts for direct 2 consumer brands

Intrigued by a couple d2c brands out there for new irons and wondering how to consider shaft selection? Is it something where I could go get “shaft fitted” at club champion? I’m a ~6hdcp w/ 9i as 150 club.

Most DTC have KBS shafts as their stock options. The KBS Tour line specificity is very popular.

It would be possible to get a good feel and idea for how a shaft would perform. But not perfect.

Given your handicap I'm sure you have a solid idea of what works for you. Whether that be typical flex or weight.

Club champion to my knowledge only carries two dtc brands. New level and PXG.

If you were interested in those brands you could do a fitting for them. Other dtc brands like Sub70 you would need to go see them and get fit.

Picking shafts blindly can be hard if one doesn’t know what works for their swings and how other shafts feel. It’s possible that getting fit for one set of irons and a shaft will have that shaft carry over to another. I’ve had several shafts work on multiple heads, but have had good shafts work in one brand and not in another.

I had an iron shaft fitting at PGATSS where we picked a head in the neighborhood of the clubs I tend to play and hit tons of shafts to see what worked best.  It worked well for me and only cost $100 - well worth it IMO.

You are not stuck with the DTC shaft options as most DTC will sell you the heads alone.  You could then build the irons yourself with your chosen shafts or have your local shop do so.

Good luck whatever route you choose.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

I think you are getting at my thought process of “does liking a shaft translate between golf heads and if not how much negative impact would it have?”

It all comes down to feel and if that feel affects the swing positive or negative.

As an example, I fit into dg s300 in a lot of clubs but it doesn’t work for me in Srixon.

Modus 120s didn’t fit my swing with pxg, no issues in other clubs

Having dealt with Sub 70 I can tell you they really do a good job of getting the right shaft by phone. They have a lot of shaft options and even if it’s not listed they can usually get it if you’re looking for something in particular. They do have some fitters they work with but you’d have to call to see if one is in your area. They also do in person fittings if you live close enough.
