I am also happy to report that I got to the range yesterday and started to put them through the paces around the practice green and making some full shots at targets downrange.

Initial report:

• Really liking the feel off the club-face. Its a muted thud kind of feel? The SM9 I hit last month was similar.
• Green was soft due to some recent rain, but the ball certainly had more spin than my gamer. Very noticeable on the short pitch shots I was making.
• Turf interaction is great. Just what expected from my fitting results.

I have a couple videos for all this and will post those as soon as I can. I think you guys will like it! More sessions planned with more video.

Happy Sunday spies!

Okay as promised here are couple videos of some pitch shots around the practice green using my current wedges and the vokeys. I could tell the difference right away in how much more spin came off the Vokeys. They are new so I know that has a big impact with the grooves being fresh. But feel wise I really like the turf interaction with these grinds. I can be a little more aggressive with these types of shots. Let me know your thoughts! Today I am taking them on the course for the first time to gather data and then again next weekend. I will also plan on doing a 15-20 yard flop shot test, chipping test, and getting carry and spin data from the simulator place down the road.

Test #1 - Around the green pitch shots (10-15 yds) 60 degree Lob Wedge

• Video 1: Maltby 60 degree 8 degree bounce vs. Vokey SM10 60 degree M grind 8 degree bounce.

 

 

Test #2 - Around the green pitch shots (10-15 yds) 54 degree Sand Wedge

• Video 2: Maltby 56 degree 12 degree bounce vs. Vokey SM10 54 degree S ground 10 degree bounce.
• *i mishit one or two of these but meh...

Good news, bad news....

Good news: My wedges were just delivered, yea!!!!  

Bad news: I'm out of town for the next 8 days so I can't play with them 

Now I'll have to be content with watching the others play with theirs! That didn't come out right but you get the idea.

Vokeys on the course, notes from 9 holes on Sunday:

- I got to use each SM10 multiple times. Playing on normal bent grass fairways and some soft sandy bunkers. Since this is my normal type of course here in Ohio, the grinds and bounce options were on point. Turf interaction felt good. Never felt "diggy" and the club face didn't twist or camber awkwardly thru fairway or rough

- I took full shots with each 48, 54, and 60 and really liked the ball flight. Distance control was attainable with in a couple of yards. I could probably be more aggressive with my target areas in some cases.

- A couple of pitch shots got me closer to the pin b/c of the increased spin control, so I was able to save a par or limit to a bogey.

- Bunker shots were OK, but that was mostly me. I had two really difficult lies above/below my feet that caused the most issues. And the sand was soft and thick.

A solid outing overall for the SM10s. I really like the feel of the ball of the face. So much so that I am kind of getting addicted to that.

To the Vokey testers, I hope you guys all have a great experience.  As a PING S159 tester, I was most excited to see how differing sole grinds would complement my game…long story short, the improvements made were instrumental in helping me gain confidence and hit better shots.

I’ve had a very difficult time finding specific differences between SM9 & SM10 besides slightly less offset.  I’m looking forward to not only the stories, but the photos you share along the way.  Play well and have fun!

Christmas in June! Glad you got your SM10s in hand now. That black finish is just a tad darker than the nickel on mine. At least it looks that way

It's pretty muted.  I looked at both during the fitting and I couldn't tell THAT much difference between the two. But I liked the more murdered out look of the all black finish.

Still waiting on mine. Great reviews so far. Can’t wait to get my hands on them and see how they compare to SM8s I’m gaming now.

So another pitching/chipping session yesterday at the local range showed me how much more control I have with these SM10's.

This first picture is the result with my 60 deg from about 15 yards away. I am use to the ball rolling out more, especially since these are range balls. But they kept checking up sooner and stopping!

This next picture is the same thing just aiming at the yellow target and accounting for the increased stopping. Not bad, just have to get use to it!

Have a round scheduled on Saturday with @ZoonORama so more data from that will be shared. Still planning on getting some full shot videos and a sim session in for the swing and spin data. Any other ideas out there from my fellow spies? Anything specific you guys want to see?

It was fun to try and just spin the heck out of it.  More to come in the review, but I had a few surprising results. Really looking forward to tomorrow and seeing how the clubs interact through actual turf.

Update: Grinds are EVERYTHING. SM10s performed exceptionally well yesterday. Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads out there!

I curious of how everyone is finding their new wedges? All the different grinds people got, Im curious to compare and see what we all think.

I completely agree with you @HeathS16. What was interesting was I played a new course this past weekend and the ground was super hard and dry. This course is a public one that doesn't have a large sprinkler system to keep the grass watered so it was downright desert like in some areas. My SM10's did a decent job, especially my 60 degree with 8 deg bounce.

I played a course I don't normally play and we are in the time of year in Oklahoma that things are becoming fast and firm.  Still have some decent green out there but by July it'll be a greenish yellow lol.  That said, the wedges were absolutely solid. I've never fancied myself good enough to really notice the turf interaction but with the SM10s I get great feedback, whether it's square faced or open. 

 

The only thing I didn't get to try out yesterday was the 58* out of the sand....oh well just another excuse to give to the wife as to why I should play more.

Even if I can sneak away from the 2 year old and 5 year old for range/short game practice is good so I tell her I will just do that instead of play, works every time.

I'm finally back from my granddaughter's KC softball tournament and will be picking up my Vokey's from my neighbor later today, assuming he hasn't sold them on eBay . (In case it needs to be said; I'm kidding about that, of course, as they are terrific people who always look out for us.) I can't wait to start testing them!!!
