Keep track of your stats for a better game

Recommended Posts

I use an app called GameBook to keep track of my stats.  I don't use the app every round, but I do it enough to get useful data.  You can see in the pic below that I need to work on my front 9 scoring and putting.  Part of my problem is that I never get to the course early enough to hit balls or warm up, I literally jump out of the car and go to the first tee.  I'm not going to tell you that keeping track of your stats will shave strokes off your game, but it certainly won't hurt.  Do you keep track of your stats?

Been using GameBook too.  Makes it easy.  Striker's app does that as well.

If I don't use an app, I'll just keep it on a scorecard - keeping track of FW hit, GIR, sand/saves, chip/saves, putts per hole and length of 1st putt.  Good to see where you've lost strokes...

I started doing this last year to see where I was really losing strokes.  I was using a combination of Tour Striker and The Grint to do it.  I am going to try Game Book.  The problem i found before was trying to find and app that doesn't use GPS so my battery on my phone will last.  I definitely think it helped me drop a couple of strokes because more then anything it made we look at my game realistically.

GameBook does not use GPS, it is basically just an online scorecard.

I do FW, GIRs, putts and up and downs. For a while this year I did distance to the hole from inside 120 because of the SCOR test. Just too much for me. The first four work fine. I could do it the way Bones does and actually I have a sample of that from league.

I used game golf a little but once I got new clubs I forgot to switch the markers over so I only kept track on a scorecard. The last few rounds I played in July I kept trtrack of everything, Fws hit, GIR, putts. As well as the outcome of the shot like if it was a pull ect.

It was very helpful in trying to figure out why I haven't been able to break 100 when in my lessons my swing is very good.

Next season I will put the game golf back in the new clubs and try to see how my stats stack up.

I will have to try GameBook, but I am not much on having the iPhone out on the course. I think it might be too distracting. Maybe it's just something to get used to.

I track GIR, putts, putts per GIR, and up and downs within 25 yards of the green. I don't track FW hit, usually high. I should track driving distance, maybe I will add that next year if I can do it without loss of concentration (I find I usually forget until a hole or so later; too late!)

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I just keep stats on my card, score on the top line, fairway on the second, GIR in the third, and putts in the fourth line.

I've been using Game Golf for about three months now. My girlfriend bought it after she saw a commercial for it since every time she turns on the TV the golf channel is on. She's a saint. It's been a game changer for me. Being able to spend 15 minutes reviewing your round afterwards and seeing the shots that you hit teaches you a lot about your game. It's especially useful to see your stats for approach shots from different distances and what your misses are. For instance, I miss short 35% of the time when I'm 150-175 out which is a combination of poor ball striking and thinking I hit my 8 iron as far as Rory. It also puts things in perspective when you realize that "bomb" you hit off the tee only went 240. The only downside I've had with it is the crappy belt clip that I've broken twice. The first time they sent me a new one right away. This time I've decided to just keep it in my pocket since it works through pants with no issues but their customer service is very good. I'd say its definitely worth the money.

I can help if you want.

Develope a game plan that seeks to eliminate the big misses (penalty stroke shots) and work the short game hard.

You have a good enough swing and the unteachable attribute of distance.

The one thing you don't want to change is your demeanor. You are a pleasure to play with. Good luck next season, I'm rooting for you.

Thanks! The demeanor isn't going anywhere. That may be the strongest part of my game cause I can shrug off a bad hole or 2 like it never happened.

I'll gladly listen to any advice you or anyone is willing to give cause next season I plan to enter a tournament or two and I don't want to embarrass myself too much lol

I've got Game Golf, but haven't used it yet.  It will be a few months before I'll be able to see if it helps.  I'm terrible at keeping track of anything more than my score and a few notes for GIR, putts, etc, when I'm playing a round, so I'm hoping it works for me.

I keep my stats on my GolfPad app with the added bonus of mapping every shot and reviewing it after every round. Like jbil, I'm disappointed in the bomb drive that goes 225-240, but if it's in the fairway, I'll take it!

My "bombs" off the tee go about 225-240, but make me smile ;)

Here's a video I found today that does a good job explaining what I was getting at in my earlier post in this thread. Might also be helpful to anyone that might be interested in Game Golf.

I will have to try GameBook. I usually use the Nike Golf 360 app, which I find very easy to use and helpful, but it doesn't track enough stats. Only tracks, score, FW hit and misses L or R, putts, and GIR. Would be much better if it calculated scoring avg for each Par 3, 4, or 5.
