Why? No bullshit, flaming and big ego's. It's that simple, just people who enjoy the game, are respectful of each other and have a good time.

I'm not so sure about the above, because I have seen it all on these forums. Some golfers are so full of themselves, their "golf ego" is bigger than they are. And then, there are the players that just enjoy the game...

  2. Here we go! Again, as someone said, no right or wrong answers here! If you play a lot of golf, and your game IS where you want it to be, and you don't really lose a lot of golf balls, by all means, play the best ball for you! Even if it's $55 a box!! Me, I don't play that much, and still lose a few a round, a lot sometimes. And being a 20+ capper, I an NOT spending that kind of dough to hit it where I won't find it, which happens, a lot sometimes. If and when I CAN get my game to the point of NOT losing a dozen premium balls over 4-5 rounds, I WILL play that better ball. I play a decent 2-piece ball, that keeps me in the fairway for the most part, and has decent manners around the green. And, what is funny, I don't seem to be losing these as fast as when I put a better ball in play. A urethane cover ball just has too much spin for me off the driver! I really would like to play this type of ball, just need to find one THAT I can keep on the fairway. Still looking, and experimenting with different balls of this type. Would really like to play a 3-piece, for the ability to hold a green on a 150 approach shot. And how about stop and hop from 50 in! Plenty to look at and put in play. I don't need any suggestions, as I move along in my search. I play my 2-piece mostly, and pick up a dozen of something 3-piece,  and put it in play during a round, to see IF it will work for me. Went to GolfTec in March for some swing corrections, and now just need to get out there to work them in my game..I will be purchasing $40-50 golf balls this year, and when I find the "ONE", it will be my gamer...

Yeah, I think Bryson definitely got caught up in chasing size and distance.

Big loss for the tour whether you like him or not.

If he or Sergio never come back, I will not miss them. I actually enjoy the Tour without all the names that left, but those two are the worst!

  4. I can't believe we are still talking about this. You have to use your imagination on a lot of golf shots. This is one of them. If you are not buying a club to fill the gap, then figure out how to use one your current clubs to fill this need, with a made up shot, using your imagination. Choke down, or swing harder on another club, to fill that gap. A little practice at the range would help with this. What do you do for 20 yard chips? I don't have an exact distance club for this shot, so I have to "make it up", using my imagination, with some learned golf skill mixed in. This is golf!

  5. I play less than 20 rounds in a season here in the Chicago area. I usually start the season wearing a pair of winter type golf gloves, than switch as the weather gets warmer to a left hand glove. I used to buy FJ WeatherSoft, but than switched to the PGASS house brand gloves, PGA Tour. I find for the price, around $7, they are well made, with no issues of seams coming apart, and fit snugly, as they should. I have one of those plastic glove hands, to put the glove on after wearing, and it can dry without stretching, and it will keep a good shape. One glove can last me a season, and I always have a new spare in my bag, if for any reason I want to switch. I have on occasion, washed a glove in the kitchen sink with cool water, and a little dish soap, if it is looking a little dirty, or just want to kind of renew the glove's shape. I rinse it well, put it on the plastic glove hand, and let it air dry, putting it out in the sunshine if weather permits. These are synthetic leather gloves, and even after washing, feel very good, and retain their grip, and never feel slick. I use Lamkin Crossline oversize grips, and I never feel the need to put a death grip on the club with this glove. This is a very good glove for the price, and would invite anyone to try them. They have ALL the sizes, in stock at the store. This is my go-to glove, and I am looking forward to this season...

great big bertha pitching wedge which is a 44 degree, I hit it 100 - 105 yards

Great big bertha approach wedge which is 49 degree, I hit 70 to 80 yards

What wedge is available for 90 yards.?

Pick up a specialty wedge at 46*. Should fill your gap, or learn to hit a knockdown with your 44*...

  8. I use a yellow ball, and use a Check-n-Go in red Sharpie, to get the "equator line" on the ball. Takes a little time to do a box, but in my mind, I feel it helps my game. I use it on the tee, and on the green for alignment. I don't get anal about the alignment, and change it 3-4 times, especially on the green. I just line it up in the basic direction, and play away. Easily identifiable from a short distance on the fairway, as I show my playing partners my ball on the first tee. Does it help my game? Maybe! At least, again "in my mind", I have done something for my game that takes away any question or doubt about equipment I am using, as I am a high capper. Confidence in my equipment is paramount to me, so I can enjoy my game.

I'm in this exact dilemma right now.  I'm a little wild off the tee (who isn't) and wouldn't mind seeing what's out there.  On the other hand my Radspeed driver is only 2 years old and there's a very low probability that any of the new drivers will be a significant improvement over it.  I can guarantee if drivers were a little cheaper I would be all over a new one.  Looking at $600+ for a 2023 model ($850 for a Paradym with "stock" Ventus shaft) has me reluctant to even demo anything for fear of falling in love with something new.

I do have some shop credit though so I'm sure I'll find a way to justify hitting up some demos once the snow melts.

Maybe go get a swing evaluation, as it might help with the wildness off the tee. I am doing this in March, just to see if there is some small tweak to help me find the fairway, and greens more often. Not rebuilding my swing at 66, but a little correction to what I am doing. Just redid my bag in 2020-not buying anything for a few years down the road...

R580xd came out 20 years ago with a $500 pricetag. I'd say driver prices have remained fairly unchanged since.

Bought a demo of a club the just had been released that year. Club retailed at $299. I purchased a demo of that club for $125+ tax at Golfsmith. Played that driver for over 10 years. Now I have a G410, purchased in 2020, for $399. Will be playing this driver at least 10 years. Once I find something, I get comfortable, it helps my game, I play the hell out of it. I can always change shafts, if I really need to, which I don't do "exotic" shafts, just tried and true brands I know. Golf is expensive as it is...

  11. I purchased a G410 in 2020 for $399. That is my limit! And, I will be playing this driver for quite a few years. I am not one to be buying drivers every, or even every other year. My last driver, a Diablo Octane, I played for 10+ years. Not a club ho, as I try to make an informed purchase, and then stick with it. $600+ is kind of getting into stupid money territory fo me. Don't really care what the pros are playing...

  12. 1-Keeping the ball in the fairway. 2-Making much better approach shots. Short game with the wedges really got overused last season, so back to #2. Time in greenside bunkers, or rough around the greens has got to be LESS than it is now. Better accuracy with the approach shots is a main goal this coming season. 3-Just trying to keep a positive attitude when things start going off the rails. This makes for a much more enjoyable round, for all involved..4-Shooting in the low 90's is a goal, if all of the above goes well, just for starters. Will adjust this goal as the season progresses. In March, going to Golftec for a swing evaluation. Let's see if it finds something to help me...

IMO, this is why people don't like and question fittings and lessons.  We go to a fitter to find a product that performs and if that club is different that what you have been playing it will and  probably should feel different.   Different can be evaluated as awkward.  The measurements that were discussed are taken to help you determine how you should hold and move the putter during the stroke based on bio-mechanic matchups.  Additionally it may change your visual perception as Edel fitters work to correct aim biases and feel since they leverage weight placement to help control distance.   A properly fit club should help generate confidence that will make if "feel" good over time.

One way to think about it. I am goingvto a swing evaluation in March, but I do this just to "tweak" my swing, and that I am doing the right thing. If not, it is usually an eye opener, with a learning curve for the body. To me, putting is a different animal. Must be relaxed, and it can't be uncomfortable. Over time, maybe not so much...

If you want a true understanding and fitting of putters David Edel of Edel putters has the most comprehensive and best fitting I have ever seen. He measures and  takes into account the players height, wing span, forearm and upper arm length Your arm fold on your backswing. Than he starts fitting you for the putter. They are able to change head style, hosel, aim lines, weight/counter weight. Best putter fitting I've ever seen.

All of the above is great! How does it feel when they are done, and you are holding the finished product in your hands? To me, that IS what COUNTS!! If it feels really good, great. If you putt better, it was worth it! If it feels awkward, eh, to much time to feel like that!!

Nice work!  Brings back memories that, well quite frankly, are just fine being memories.  Of course the guys before me said "yeah, but we did it with slide rules".  When I left, I told the young bucks "yeah, but we did it with HP41's" 😜.  As to the data, I suspect that it could be skewed by the vast majority not having been fitted and just buying off the rack.  But I was curious to see if those on the tall vs. short side tended to buy putters accordingly.  Looks like more buy just based on feel... or maybe look... or maybe logo... headcover, all of the above???

Didn't have a fitting, don't care about data. I just know what feels good, and that I am comfortable in my stance and set up. Putters should appeal to your eye. To each his own. Kinda whatever works for you, go with it. Spend as much as you like, or as little, as long as you are happy with it! I did!!

  16. 5'8", and I use a 29" putter. Started at 33", but never got comfortable. Wanted to be over the ball, so I started choking down in practice one day, and would mark where I would have my top hand. I was too upright, and felt like I was stabbing at the ball, missing right every time. Cut it to 29", and has been good since. Done this on 2 putters...

  17. For sure, I love the simplicity of my Garmin S10. My phone stays in my golf bag, or in the cart. So far it has been pretty accurate. Playing partners use their phone apps, and we are no more than a yard apart sometimes. Yeah, they are a little pricey, but figure out what you would spend if you paid for apps over a period of time. I got tired of the "FREE" apps, because after a while, the pester you to subscibe, or bomb you with ads, so much, I could not use the app! I had tried 3 different apps over 5 years-same thing every time.

Thinking I will pick up a GPS golf watch this week. Been trying to use one of those free phone APPS and find it to be cumbersome and to much of a pain. Was thinking of getting the basic Garmin S10 as its cheap and looks to do the basic task of letting me know accurate yardages to the green and hazards, doglegs etc. But after more time watching/reading reviews maybe the Garmin S12 would be a good upgrade for minimal increase in cost? Or am I best to take the next jump up to the Garmini S42 ? Anyone with opinion on these models or for that matter any other make/model in which you found to be nice?

So, did you get a Garmin? I love mine. So simple to use. A little pricey, but with out the hassle of pulling out your phone on the fairway.

Selecting a larger grip means you're using different muscles in your forearms.  It may also have something to do with grip tension.

I'd take one club out of your bag and try a smaller grip to see if that offers any changes.

I went to oversize grips about 8 years ago, and it is the best thing I did for the pain in my hands and arms. I could not even play 9 without pain, especially in my forearms. With oversized, I have relaxed grip pressure, and no pain. I play Lamkin Crossline Oversize on all clubs, except driver, which has a midsize. My putter has a SuperStroke Traxion 2.0 CB..

I really like the Srixon Q-Star tour.  It is a lower compression and fits my swing speed (88-92) well.  It has a urethane cover so more susceptible to wear.  Excellent off the tee and holds greens.  Alternatively, the Bridgestone e12 plays very similar off the tee, has the same feel as the Q, but doesnt hold greens as well.  Is also a 3 piece ball but has a different cover and handles the wear and tear better.  My #1 choice is still the Q but interested in trying the Vice Elixr and TM Tour Response.

I thought about the Q-Star, not tour. Says it spins better around the greens, because of the cover. Not urethane, but better than low price 2 piece offerings. Might have to try it..
