golfluvzme
Man, this is supposed to be a "Show what you got" thread, right, LOL. I am not a huge fan of snow, but on the right putter and put there by the right guy, I LOVE it. Here is one that I received from Tad Moore, this past December. My brother made friends with him and introduced me, last year, sometime. By the time Christmas rolled around, Tad thought enough of our family of golfers to put three handmades together and send them West a surprise Christmas presents. My dad, my older brother and myself, all wound up with a putter that would have been BIG $$$$$ back in the 80's, if you remember those days. He left them raw and did all of the stamping, himself. He knew that each of us would wind up putting some of our personality in them, through finish, paint fill or even some face work. I chose to give the face a milling pattern that I won't see on the guy next to me's putter, anytime soon, I am certain. She is in paint fill, right now, then headed to the new bag. I'll keep you posted on how she turns out and how sweet she rolls the rock. Thanks all, LaMont in AZ
SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 11, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 11, 2010 Quite a beauty, even without paint. I think the snow, without paint adds nice texture to the top view. Helps make the topline and cavity stand out. Volvo Intorqueo All the cool kids follow me on twitter: @GolfspyDave If you are not a cool kid, following me on twitter will make you cool... HoosierGolfer
While I tend to feel the same as most when you talk about "snow" on a putter, I'm old enough to remember that there was a reason this was done, at least in the case of Truett Mills, where it was done to reduce some of the glare on the flange of putters he hand made that were finished in black oxide, which in his case were pretty shiny. My experience says that it really did not do that much to reduce the glare as was intended but that was the reason none the less. The past few years however, it has been done to death and a great number of classic putters have been scarred for life which is pretty sad in more than a few cases. I'm a fan of very few or no stamps outside of the makers name, maybe model etc. If you have all stamped up with personal stuff, you better be sure you love it, because it is a resale value killer. SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 12, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 12, 2010 What to you think about the additional painted line on the top line of the later models? I had associated the dot/oval top with the MIlls and I was surprised when I found one with the top line. Seemed unnecessary to me.
