mgustin
Black body, silver face. I can see how contrast would be important. Wonder if drawing black around the outer edge of the stickers might help with the contrast? Great job on the putting! Three putts can be killers. Big reason for my working on my EXPUTT! Hate giving up strokes and having my last 25 feet take more strokes than the first 375 yards. cksurfdude
gavinski91
I have a white face on my putter, and haven't had issues as long as I don't have the light pointing directly at the putter face (and I don't use the stickers). I stick with overhead lighting, and sometimes an additional reading light pointed at 45° down on the mat from behind. cksurfdude, cnosil and GolfSpy_SHARK 3 Quote Driver - Radspeed XB at 7.5°, Aldila Rogue Silver 70-S 3 Wood - Radspeed, Aldila Rogue Silver 70-S 5 Wood - Radspeed, Fujikura Motore X F3 6-S Utility - Pro 225 3i, Mitsubishi MMT 105S Irons - Pro 225 4-5, 223 6-PW, KBS $-Taper 120 Wedges - King Cobra Snakebite 52° & 58°, KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 S Putter - Stroke Lab Black Ten 35" Ball - Chrome Tour Powered by 2020 ExPutt Official Review | 2021 Cobra Connect Five Participant | 2023 SuperSpeed Official Review
GolfSpy MPR
If all goes well, I will be unboxing an ExPutt in the next couple of weeks! Very excited about this, first, because I love the idea of having a way of dialing in distance control. Being winter-bound for roughly six months a year gives me a lot of time to practice 8 foot putts, but little chance to practice 30 foot putts. Popular Post Rearviewmirror
So I don't want to overdo this, but this thing has literally turned around my putting game. Granted, I did make some technique changes due to what it combined with my Mezz revealed, but even so - holy moly! For folks not familiar with Arccos, the two lines are my last 30 rounds. The grey trend line is rounds 30 to 16, and the orange line is rounds 15 to 1 (1 being most recent round). The low point on the orange line was the round before the ExPutt. As you can see, it's been quite the improvement!! That one dip in the orange line was on a course where they had just deep-tined the greens and there was maybe an 1/8" of sand on top. Predictably, putting was abysmal over those 3 January rounds (average of -7 SG relative to scratch). So, in February and March, I started again with daily Exputt practice (along with practice on a perfect practice mat) - maybe 5-10 mins per day. Sure enough, I played two rounds in Arizona last week and my putting was back to -1 SG (relative to scratch). So, a 6 stroke improvement from just putting. The key for me seems to be to keep practicing (exputt and mat) a little bit each day, otherwise those putting skills erode quickly. For me the only challenge is disaggregating poor technique and the impact of practice. The ExPutt helped me identify where some things were going wrong, which combined with a bunch of practice has ironed out a lot of my putting woes. I've regressed back a little bit as seen below in the orange line (honestly not been practicing as much with ExPutt as I've been out on the course more) and as a result have had a couple of three putts creep in, along with a few shorter misses during aeration season. That said, it's still night and day from where I was before. Weather has started to warm up and I'm guessing green speeds will follow, and I do typically putt better on faster greens. GolfSpy MPR
So I've received my ExPutt, and I'm very, very impressed. Like others have said in the thread, I love the ability to set random flat distances, imagine that distance in my mind, and start matching feel to distance. GolfSpy MPR
A more serious question for my fellow ExPutters: talk to me about the face stickers. Right now, I'm probably getting a face read on about 70% of my putts. I am using the included stickers. My intent is to buy a bunch of stickers from Amazon so I never have to think about stickers again. I figure half-inch would work, though the included stickers are slightly bigger than that. Have you all found lighting tricks that help the ExPutt have a higher read percentage for face? Any suggestions for a sticker that's worked for you? I have some white tape that I just put on and take off. I get lots of use out of a single piece and just stick it on the grip of an extra putter. Doesn’t have to be round. And I don’t think size is that important. lighting is always the biggest issue. Overhead lighting is the best. I saw your setup on Twitter/X and would also suggest trying to get the camera higher. Had to double check - still have the original stickers on my gamer that came with the unit a few years ago! This putter is all satin finish; the other one I use is all black. I think, or I guess .. stickers, or tape, could only help the unit distinguish the corners of the putter..? Also have indirect, overhead lighting (still incandescent floods in the basement). And my cam is at the higher end of the suggested range given the distance from it to the front of the mat. Have not seen the newer version .. though would guess, again, the startup is similar in that it need to find the mat before you can proceed... That part also gives you a chance to test cam positions and view on-screen how the mat is "seen" by the unit. I think finding some reference points there is useful. I vary the length of my backswing (similar to the clock system for wedges), so I know based on how far back I swing how fast the ball will launch in mph. (Admittedly the values change so you do need to recalibrate regularly) Combine that with the chart below that I put together during my test and I can usually estimate how I should putt for any given shot. My path is consistently to the right (3-6 degrees) and my face is pretty close to square (most of the time). My favorite putt came in the first practice session. It was a 47' putt that I hit 67'11". Yes, while you're in practice mode, go to the menu. Select "Analysis." It will take you back to the green, and it will seem like nothing changed. But at the bottom of the screen, you'll see that you've begun a sequence of 18 putts. I believe these will be random, from 10-50'. When you complete at 18 putts, it will automatically bring up the analysis screen for your distance dispersion, face angle, and path. To date, I haven't seen a way to pull up the historical information. I believe it is supposed to track trends after you complete x number of analysis sessions (I think it's five), and I'm just getting there now. jbern, cksurfdude and TJ Hall 3 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX E722 16.5°, Tensei AV RAW Blue 65 S Epic Super Hybrid 19°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 22°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 Epic Forged 7 27° 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 7–PW Diamond Tour Inazone 3.0 50°, 54°, 58°, Aldila NV 95 Graphite DF3, Counterbalanced 37", TPT shaft, Garsen Quad Tour 17" Full WITB with pictures
jbern
I forgot to mention that my putter is a black, Sub70 AL-6 putter. So when I don't use the white dots, I do not get a single club path or face read. With the white dots, I probably got 90-95% success rate. I couldn't tell that there was any difference, so I just turned off analysis mode after a couple of putts. I'll have to remember to take photos of the screens so I can log the data myself or something. I could seriously do the random distance putting practice for hours! It was a lot of fun! Yes, same here. When I'm using the ExPutt for random distances, I try to have my only thought to be distance control. This has (in two nine hole rounds) transferred nicely to the course. I pick my line, then over the ball, I'm simply trying to roll the ball the number that's in my head. After you get the minimum analysis sessions it will post a graph after you complete the next analysis session. You can then choose to save or drop the data. On the older system there is no way to get back to the screens without doing another session. Even if you do an analysis session you will see a summary for your practice when you exit. It does not save practice session data. jbern
So I've been having trouble getting Exputt to register putter face impact angle and putter path. I have also been getting some crazy path readings (e.g. I had one putt that registered as 12.5* right path and the next putt was 11.4* left path). I have the white dots on the sides of the putter. I have the camera height and mat distance within the ranges provided in the instructions. Previously, things seemed to register about 95% of the time. For some reason, I am now getting less than 50% success rate for Exputt logging those two data points. I'm expecting this to be an alignment issue or lighting issue because I have old school florescent lighting in the area with the Exputt and I have the fixtures to replace them with pretty high quality LED panels. My questions are: Is there any need to align the Exputt mat directly inline with the camera or is it ok if it is offline a little? I have mine offline a little, like the top graphic because of a wall. However, It successfully calibrates every time. I tried to skim through the thread to find the best lighting direction setup and didn't see anything, but Did anyone experiment with lighting from various sides of the mat? Ball placement - I haven't found this to be an issue that I know of, but I'm wondering if I should align the ball a certain way for every putt to help with consistent results? cksurfdude 1 Quote WITB (link to detailed post here): Driver: LTDx 9* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) Fairway metals: 3W TSR2 14.25* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) | 5W Gen4 0341XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75 S) Hybrid: 4H Gen4 0317XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75HY S) Irons: 659 CB 5-AW (Project X Rifle 6.0) Wedges: 286 54* & 58* (KBS Tour 120 S) Putter: AL-6 armlock | Unofficial review here | DF3 OFFICIAL MEMBER REVIEW HERE Ball: pro drip: red & blue | Tour S Pushcart: 4.0 | '23 MGS Clicgear 4.0 Pushcart Tester | Link here

Totally guessing but maybe yeah on your current setup .. just, again, guessing that the angle + face rotation + are you RHed? may be interfering with readings..? Maybe try setting the cam up on a box or something temporary so it's in line as a test? jbern 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Driver...Callaway Paradym (Aldila Ascent PL Blue 40/A) 3H .. I don’t think there is a need to align them directly in line I have done offset and angled and it seemed to work correctly. The spots and such on the mat are used to help the measurements. 2. Lighting is the biggest complaint and there doesn’t seem to be a great answer. Overhead seems to work best if you can do that. I try to get the most ambient light I can. Camera height also seems to be a big factor. I try to get mine as high as possible and I get better results. 3. the ball just needs to be in the ball area and the system will say ready when it detects the ball. I recall you also want to use a white ball since colored balls throw off the readings. cksurfdude and jbern 2 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: XCG7 Beta 15* w/Fujikura Fuel Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
