Not that anything I say would put a hole in your troll tent, but most in the US did grow up playing baseball and wearing baseball hats is part of the culture. Girls, boys and everyone in-between. It has nothing to do with loud or conformity but everything to do with keeping the sun out of your eyes when engaged in a sporting activity. Fact is, what started out as a baseball cap is now a fashion statement and athletic accessory for professionals and amateurs alike in just about every field of athletic endeavor. Why, I even saw several Europeans (!) wearing them at the President's Cup, Solheim Cup, and the Olympic Games, among many other events and sports. The standard baseball cap is convenient, comfortable, can be cheap...or $495 depending on your social economic class - again, (!) - and is now considered unisex. It has become ubiquitous in most modern societies. As for me, I'm very continental. I just wear what my mommy tells me to. Golf2Much
With sunlight hitting the Key West ground 76% of the daylight hours, you need protection from the sun! However, the average wind speed is 14 mph. Through in the average annual high temperature is just shy of 83 degrees. I vary the brim size based on the wind and stick with light weight, white (reflect versus absorb) hats because of the heat. I tend to play first thing in the morning to help beat the sun and heat. Before I leave, I walk my beagle, Scout (she's a good girl). During the walk, I assess the amount of wind. If it's calm, I'll take the wide brim Ahead Palmer hat (far left). If it's blowing the normal 10-15 mph, I'll take the shorter brimmed Imperial Florida State Golf Association hat (middle). For windy days over 15 mph, it's typically the Ahead light weight material baseball cap (far right). Then again, all of the above logic goes out the window if wearing a certain hat goes better with my outfit! That includes color matching and/or coinciding with various golf events (e.g. Masters, US Open, The Open, PGA Championship, Memorial (Jack inspired hat), etc.). I has something similar happen when some high school kids on the JV Golf Team asked their coach how did I steer my electric cart as I went past them in the parking lot, so I sent it toward them and did a nice 360* before heading back to me and my trunk. Josh Parker
I am always on the hunt for good hats. Because of the hot temps and how bad I sweat, hats don't last long. I found this brand on Amazon and have been testing it out for the couple months. It's been amazing and hasn't shown any sweat marks. I have rinsed it with water and just kept going. I plan on buying a few at this point and will put my business logo on them. Best hat I have ever found for durability and veteran owned. Brand is called Ankor.
