ole gray
I had an interesting day at the Taylormade Kingdom of Reynolds Lake Oconee. I hit balls with regular Stealth irons and the HD model with several different shafts to include regular and senior flex. The ball used was the TP5 model which is a great ball however I wish they would have had the Tour Response or similar compression ball to use. The fitter knew his stuff and he could tell what lie I needed by marking a ball with a black verticle line and then had me hit it. After only a couple of head swap outs the mark left on the clubface was straight up and down. 1 degree up with 1/2 inch increase in shaft length was the ticket for me. I'll report back after I have had some on-course time with my new Stealth HD irons! Called and the message said they were off for the holiday.... I could actually drive back down there and pick them up as it's only 40 miles away and it shouldn't take long as they had all the components on-site. Flex is only relevant to a shaft line in the same weight class. Enjoy the process and take in everything you can and have lots of fun! Video editing at it's finest! I inevitably hit some of the worst shots I've seen from myself in a long time every time I get in front of someone in a hitting bay. I can just hear the store associate's thoughts "has this guy even played golf before?". Once I get a little warmed up and use to them being there, I start hitting them a lot better. Just remember they've seen the full spectrum of swings. I remember going into a club champion when I first started because a friend said I should get fit for clubs early. Went in, hacked it up for about 15 min. The guy very respectfully told me he didn't want my business yet . Recommended I stick with my beginner set and get some lesson to at least get my swing consistent. Didn't charge me for the fitting and I immediately became a repeat customer for that location. Did my putter fitting there a few months ago and it was great. ole gray 1 Quote Callaway Rouge ST Max LS 9* Driver w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Shaft Callaway Rouge ST Max 3W w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Shaft Taylormade Stealth2+ 3Hy Ping iCrossover 3i Callaway Mavrik 4Hy - Benched Mizuno JPX 923 Forged 5-AW TaylorMade Hi-Toe RAW 54-10 & 58-10 L.A.B. justbobgolf
I think if you're taking up someone's time and not necessarily bringing value to their store, it's perfectly fine to pay a little fee. Something like $50 for an hour fitting is understandable. But if you purchase a set it should be deducted. As long as you purchase something over $500 I guess. Sdub
I really have a problem paying a big box store for a fitting. First, I have no confidence in the level of experience the fitter has. Second, I'm not going to a big box fitter... even if it's free. Don't trust them. No level of confidence. Not worth my time. WWeppler
I’m from Canada but we have an excellent golf academy nearby with fittings at them and I can’t recommend them enough. As a lefty, they had everything I could ever want (I know Canada = hockey = lefties). It was $250 over 2.5 hours going through every club in my bag and any club I could want for my skill level and swing speed. The guys there were super helpful and allowed me to take the spreadsheet they gave me to my home course and order my clubs through them. drifter
Did a Titleist fitting for driver 100.00 bought the driver and they took the 100 off the price of the driver. Was well worth the 100 to get fit out doors and see the ball flight plus they really work with you to get the right setup. Will never do another indoor fitting just not the same go team Titleist. Golf Detective
Heres the short of it: over 40 years building golf retail from every aspect from A - Z into multi-multi-million dollar totally successful golf businesses which still operate today Expecting to get something for nothing is the norm we live in today - NOTHING if any true value is free A true fitter is an expert and should by all means be paid for their time Did someone put a gun to your head and force you to go get fit By paying for the fitting, you now have committed to the process which makes you a serious buyer and not a time waster Businesses cost money to run and wasting someone’s valuable time and not purchasing is basically stealing from that business - but that is the society we live in today - that’s to bad YES - Charge for fittings - but provide a % credit back once they have purchased the product they were fitted for. You go into an outdoor bay and your name is on a sign as you come in. You have new Taylormade balls to hit with. He gives you time with your own iron (7 iron) or wood to log some data for comparison and you're off. The fitters are very through and it's a 1st class operation. I was determined to go with one model and I should have been opened to more options. My bad as they allow time for you to try different models. Pricey however you get what you pay for. Patrick Dawes
I have used a couple of different fitters the last couple of years both the big guys (club champion - I was looking to try some specific shafts that only they carried in my area) and the local store that has been around for years in West Springfield, MA for my new set of irons. Club Champion was a little more thorough with the fitting but I think a lot of that came down to me having a good fitter that cared about the fitting. The local shop was good too just slightly fewer options in things like shafts to try but I was going in knowing I was going with the stock shaft option due to budget so it worked for me at the time. I don't think I would have paid full price for the club champion fitting (it was $400 but got it for $100 with purchase and I knew I was buying a couple of wedges so it worked for me when I did it. I will say club champion clubs take some time to get to you but they are very thorough and if you are getting special lofts or lays them triple check and you are getting what you ordered (they measured my clubs and found that they did not match the spec sheet for the built form Callaway and I had not used them enough to for them to be that far out of whack only a year old and maybe 10 rounds on them. The nice thing is they send you a code for a free fitting with an equipment purchase you can give out to friends so if anyone wants it send me a message It is good until 12/31/24 Quote Patrick Dawes
