That is exactly why I tee my ball at 1/8” to 1/4” above the top of the turf when hitting my 4-wood from the teeing ground. This creates a perfect lie but does not get the ball elevated too far above the ground. chisag 1 Quote DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max, Newton Motion 4-Dot shaft 4W - Titleist TSR2, Newton Motion 4-Dot FW shaft HYB - Sub 70 949X 21*, original HZRDUS Black 85-S shaft 7W (if played) - Titleist TSR, ACCRA TZ6 7S Irons - Cobra King Forged Tec X, KBS TGI graphite shafts Wedges - Edison 2.0, 47* (bent to 48*), 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100 Tour S Putter - Evnroll ER10 ""Outback” Mallet Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023) or Vice Pro Plus Bags - Vessel / Ghost stand bags Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote) Spoiler Lots of short game practice has made this a strength; now the driver is causing problems! I have seen many hockey players and former hockey players who hit the ball beautifully from off the ground, even with their strong-lofted fairways (and sometimes with a driver). Many hockey players that I know and with whom I have played golf, have problems with their knees, too. Bradka13
I had always teed everything until last year when I started SEVERELY hooking irons (mainly my 7 for some reason) from the box. It helped to play it off the deck but this year I am back to teeing almost everything with mostly better results. Like several have stated, why not take advantage of a perfect lie? funkyjudge 1 Quote Driver - Titleist TS2 3 Wood - TaylorMade Rocketballz 2 Hybrids - Taylormade Rescue knockoffs Irons - Taylormade Burner 2.0 52 Degree - Cleveland CG14 56 Degree - Titleist Vokey BV 60 Degree - Ping Glide 3.0 Ball - Depends if I find in or have to pay for it. Stuka44
I tee up everything. I hit exponentially more fat and thin shots, when hitting the ball off the ground, even when I am playing lift, clean, and place, which is most of the time given course, and weather conditions. So I'm not sure what I would be trying to prove to myself by hitting any of my clubs off the ground from the tee box. I reduce the chances of a chunk or skull by using a tee by about 98 %. I'll take it. IF I EVER HAVE CAUSE TO HIT PUTTER OFF THE TEE, ITS GOING ON A PEG!! hoppman 1 Quote Driver: Cobra King Speedzone Irons: Mavrik 4-GW Wedges: CG-14 56 & RTX 52 Hybrid: Callaway Apex Pro 2H Woods: Gigagolf 3W, Putter: Ping Scottsdale Wolverine Ball: Srixon Z-Star XV Link to comment
RoverRick
Jack Nicklaus said do it every time it’s legal. If it wasn’t an advantage they would let you do it all the time. Mike B
Jack Nicklaus once said always tee it up if allowed. He is a lot smarter and better golfer than me, so I listen to Jack. Everything on a tee if allowed. Even at the range. TJ Hall 1 Quote Coming back to golf Link to comment

srhjacks
I just started experimenting not using a tee except for driver and 3W, if the tee box is good. Girldad18
I tee up everything. I have not played a hole where I used a sand wedge or lob wedge to tee off with so... I had a friend/teacher tell me a long time ago that using a tee is the only place on a golf course you are guaranteed a perfect lie. So that is why I use it.
