Been switching back and forth between my regular bag and the Cobra bag, so both bags are...off, if that makes sense. My bag is a stand bag so I figured I'd try a cart bag from Cobra. Takes a little getting used to. I've nearly tipped the bag over probably a dozen times already expecting the non-existent legs to kick out .
Cooler pouch is indeed awesome; super roomy. The lack of a Velcro strip is a bit of a bummer but not at all a deal breaker. I've only taken it on a cart and have also noticed that the clubs do tend to not seat properly.

@sirchunksalot The only downside to me shopping at Ross or TJ Maxx is that most of the clothing doesn't come in my body type, lol. Supposedly the tight shirt/skinny pants look is about over, but you'd never know it shopping there. The oversized/baggy look that I grew up in is a fat man's dream!

I think a week of parties and talk shows probably led to his poor play at colonial more than anything else.
This is most likely the biggest culprit and absolutely the route I would have gone as well. He knew he played lights out and it probably wasn't sustainable. Why not take advantage and enjoy yourself a little? I imagine his teaching schedule filled up pretty quick, too!

I see how it is! Leaving me out of a road trip. Do you think this old guy can't hang and party all the way out there? Well maybe your right on that part. You could have had almost a free ride. Business trip you know!
Your loss. Once my clubs arrive, I will take my revenge out on you during the challenges.
Seems like an idle threat Tom, seeing as how I'm fairly certain that Jason and I could scramble and likely still be a distant second playing you!

... Finally switching to The Raven, my Phoenix summer course today where all my competitive rounds will be played. Lying in bed I played it in my head last night and the Cobra's will be interesting providing some options I didn't have in the past on two long par 4's and particularly several par 5's where the 7 wood could be ideal. In the past I found myself between my 5 wood and my 4 hybrid.
Looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Have any of you ever tried playing the forward tees to see what kind of score you can shoot?
I'm a mid to high handicap player and have heard of people playing forward tees to practice different clubs in their bag, have some shorter shots into the green to get an idea on how those clubs perform into the green.
I'm curious to see if anyone else has tried this out and if it helped their game or not.
I did it once last year just to mix things up a bit. Definitely gave me some different looks. If I recall, my score didn't change much if at all. I would likely do it again at some point. I've also never played from the back tees and would like to try that too just to say I did it. I've always maintained that, for pace purposes, I would happily play from any tee box if everyone else was playing it. Its just never come up yet.

Owen and I hit the front nine at River Heights again today. Looks like they're nearly done with the irrigation work they've been doing so hopefully we can start alternating nines soon. Rained yesterday so it was both hot and muggy today. Another day that had to be put into perspective. Wasn't thrilled with the way I played but last year I would have been ecstatic.
The good: Putting- no three putts! Lob wedge- this club has really come back around. Hitting it with confidence and getting it closer and closer to the pin.
The bad: I'm chunking way too many shots. My longer clubs, which were a strength recently, are abysmal.
The weird: I don't know what's going on with my driver. Hooking it again. If I play it as such I can pretend its a draw but something is up. Also, Owen tells me I'm scooping most of my clubs now. I'm still not totally sure what it means much less what to do about it.
Overall- three doubles, five bogeys and a par to close out the round. Shot a (+11) 47. Owen played great after an iffy start. I think he said he was +2 over the last seven holes.

@JerryB at this point I’m thinking I’ll swing down to IL, pick you up, and we will drive to Cobra HQ to pick up our clubs. Might get them faster that way!

Been a couple weeks since I last checked in; I've already managed to par every hole this year. Not gonna lie, feels really good. I added in a second line to start tracking birdies. Still a much more elusive one but I've got two so far.

Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights again today. Another weird one. All aspects of my game are shifting again. Putting has now become my strength and my wedge game, particularly really close to the green, has come back. My irons are still pretty iffy although on short par 3's I'm still a disaster. On the other side of the coin are suddenly my longer clubs; they've fallen apart. Hybrids, woods, driver...they're weak hooks that fall out of the sky.
Owen was playing really well. Everything was clicking for him other than a mini blowup on the par five 6th where he three-putted for par. He finished with a 42; I grinded my way to a 49.

I would love to wear these a part of a scramble team uniform, but I think one could only pull them off if the team was in first place or dead last.
-
My grips are all different at this point. Driver has a stock Lamkin grip. 3 wood has whatever PXG branded grip it came with. 7 wood has a blue Tour Wrap of some sort. My hybrids have black Tour Wrap jumbo grips. Cobra AMP irons still have whatever stock orange grips came on them. Wedges have standard Golf Pride grips. Putter has a cheap knockoff grip from when my son tried his hand at re-gripping clubs. Next clubs will be a lot more uniform!

I've tinkered a bunch with my putter grip since the start of last year. Tried using the claw grip, left hand low, and a few other hand placements. LHL wasn't overall much better, but it really seemed to help me dial in my stroke on the whole. Now I've got more of a baseball grip with my index fingers down the sides. Another thing on my list of things to work on but my putting isn't bad enough to care yet, lol.

Nice looking course @sirchunksalot! Looks like I would lose a lot of balls there. Great to hear you're digging the clubs!

Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights today. Started out...interesting. Hit a great drive, then hooked my wedge left where it banked off a tree and rolled to just right of the green! Chip and a putt for par, followed by two more pars. Even through three is a new best.
Now we caught up to traffic in front of us, causing us to wait a bunch and lose our rhythm. On four I chunked my tee shot then pulled the wedge to the left a bit on my way to a double. Then things suddenly went south with my driver. I sliced one into the river, then my next two driver tee shots were snap hooks. On nine I pulled the drive left again only to be bailed out by a tree again on my way to a par save.
All told I managed to salvage a really solid (+9) 45. After the fact it looks great, but in the moment it was a frustrating round. Owen finished a couple strokes behind me, but he also wasn't happy about his performance at the time. Looking back, though, I'm actually really happy. Tons of positives to take away!

I usually leave it in just to save a few seconds (and I'm really lazy) but it's a bummer because there's no better sound than the ball rattling in the hole. If I'm part of a larger group I'll defer either way if anyone has a strong preference.

Working around the house today but kept taking breaks and hitting wedges into the net in the garage. Spent mini sessions on alignment, partial swings, and takeaway. Results were encouraging but mostly just therapeutic.

... I was out here over a year and saw them running and they were kinda fast but not cartoonish fast. Then finally I saw a coyote chase one and it sprinted full speed across the fairway and it was very cartoonish fast!!! Pretty rare to see them running at full speed.

What/How Did You Practice Today?

Hit a medium bucket at the range today, just using my 50° and 9iron while trying to work out the kinks. Didn't work and may actually be worse. I need outside help but just don't have the available time to get a lesson in the immediate future.
