Xander definitely deserved the win, and DeChambeau cemented himself as a fan favorite. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out in future majors.

I love the Olympics, and one of the main reasons is that it's a showcase for amateur sports. Professionals in any sport don't belong there, neither do people who live in one country representing another.

My hope is that it's an LIV sweep for the top 3 spots.

Just curious as how y'all feel about the environmental impact of EVs? Cobalt and lithium mining create as much if not more pollution than petroleum and battery disposal will be a nightmare. I fully understand the need to get away from petro, however are EVs the ultimate answer? Curious to hear the opinions of those more educated on the issue.

Well, since I have seen ZERO of those films, and have only ever seen two of those TV series (The Crown, and Abbott Elementary, but neither within the last year), I would have no idea whatsoever whether any of those choices were good ones, nor would I care even a little). I do suspect that Paul Giamatti was great in The Holdovers, since he is great in every acting role that he takes on, but I still don't care about any self-congratulatory and phony awards presentation.
Agree completely, Doug. I'd prefer to see an awards show for the best surgeon than anything that pumps up the court jesters. They'll soon be replaced by AI anyway

Frigid day here in the Villages, woke up to 62* temps and it's still a brisk 68 at 1:15! Time to get the woolies out of the attic.

With my current health situation, golf for me is limited to one of the several putting courses we have in the villages. I've found that THC actually enhances my putting.

As the grip is the only connection we have to the club, standarization is key for me.
I use Winn oversize grips on all of my woods, irons and wedges, and a Winn mid size grip on the putter.

My current fetish is Miura irons. I have neither the skill or aptitude to hit them as well as I'd like, and always score better when playing more forgiving clubs yet the feel of a well struck iron while rare, is worth the effort.

I'm 76, and expect to feel old at 85. Recently diagnosed with blood cancer (MDS) and was given 18 months, however I'm not accepting it. Still playing executive courses 5 days a week, and work on the putting courses every day.

I started playing Miura irons a few months ago and have grown to love the feel and feedback. I'm a chop with a serious L.O.F.T and no doubt my scores would benefit from more forgiving clubs but there's nothing like the feel of a well struck Miura forging on those rare occasions when I can execute. Also in the bag are Callaway EPIC 5 and 7 woods, a pair of Wishon wedges (48 and 54) topped off by an Odessey stroke lab CS V line putter.

Sorry to hear about your wife but glad you were able to remarry. My father was from Tamaqua PA. My wife and I lived in the Villages for 8 years and just moved back to Va. It was a great place if you do not get to involved in the politics. Have a great time playing golf.
Thanks, we are both enjoying everything TV has to offer. I avoid politics on all levels, so that's a non starter for me! May I asked why you returned to the frozen tundra?

... panhadl touched on this but I love this idea. They should have a forward forward tee box for beginners, kids and senior ladies or very senior men. Most courses could easily accommodate this with tee boxes off to the side of the fairway and if that isn't feasible, just put some tee markers in the ground at an appropriate distance.
My wife doesn't usually play because of shoulder issues, so when I do get her out she just tees off at the appropriate time from the 100 yd marker. It keeps her involved, no special tee boxes required.

By your description, one minute per four golfers is saved per hole which equals 18 minutes per round. Somewhere in your math, you converted 15 sec/Golfer/hole to 1 min/golfer/hole which converts to 72 min per round. Struggling to add slows the game too (jk!).
Another aspect that slows the pace are having one or more players hit multiple, multiple mulligan tee shots, and looking for lost balls. We have a limit of 3 min for a lost ball.
My post was admittedly poorly worded. The scenario I was referring to was the 15 or more seconds it takes each golfer to mark, lift and align each putt. We rarely see one putts, often two and far to often 3. Each one taking a significant amount of time. Marking, cleaning and aligning each of those putts takes a significant amount of time per golfer. I stand my 1 minute per golfer guesstimate, but not the manner that I originally posted it. I appreciate the feedback, play well.

Sounds like 4-4:15 for walking makes sense at your course. However, our course in FL doesn't lend itself for walking as the the course is spread out and the walk between some holes could be as much as 1000 yds. Hence everyone uses their own golf cart and plays 'ready golf'.
Are you in the Villages? It's the same situation here, on the 9 hole exec. courses.

Perhaps the tees aren't as much of an issue as the greens are. I'd propose that once on the green you get to lift, clean and line up your ball once, and only once. Continue to putt until your in the hole. Saving a guesstamated 15 seconds per golfer per hole would possibly shave an hour and 12 minutes from an 18 hole round per foursome. Thoughts?

I keep the set I play with regularly plus a spare, and a few extra putters. I usually just donate what I don't use.

Does Your Group Have a Tradition When Someone Gets a Birdie?
in General Q&A
Posted · Edited by excourse
I'm back to playing thanks to 5 rounds of chemo, and currently play with 3 separate groups. In all of them, it's a sip of birdie juice from someone's flask. I actually had one tuesday, second shot on a par 4 never left the ground from 80 yds, and after curving around a bunker it settled a foot from the cup.
