PMookie
I hit two large buckets of balls yesterday. I spent a lot of the time working from just 1/2 shots, to full shots, working on getting my right elbow in the proper spot on the way down, and the position my hands should be in at impact. A lot of punches. I’ll say this: when my elbow is where it should be, and I hold my posture correctly, the feeling of the ball off the face, and then seeing the ball flight, is magical and keeps me coming back for more!!!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, Rickp and 1 other 4 Quote Driver: Ping G430 Max 9*, Ping Tour 70X Fairway: Ping G425 15*, Ping Tour 70X Hybrid: Ping G425 22*, Ping Tour 80X Irons: Ping i230 4-GW, TT DG X100 Wedges: SMS 50D/54V/58DModus 130 stiff, +1” Putter: EAS 1.0 Ball: Titleist 2023 AVX
russtopherb
Another easy-going small bucket for me, mostly wedges and shorter irons. I did hit a few 5i that were quite good (for me). It's amazing what happens when you let the club do the work and have good tempo since you're making sure not to even go over what feels like 70%. Man, do I ever love the CBX wedge. If the CBX 2 are even better... wow. But that thing was great on the range. I'm taking my dad to Pine Hills next week (playing the Nicklaus course) so I'm making sure not to aggravate my elbow at all this week to play it safe. cksurfdude, cnosil and PMookie 3 Quote In my Big Max hybrid bag: ST-X 10.5* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 15* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 4h Linq Blue R Flex Halo XL 5i-DW CBX 54* & 58* ER5 Tour S
PMookie
Ran out to hit balls, and then when I got to the course, I thought, “Why not just play 9,” so I did... With two irons, 7 & 9, a 54* wedge, my putter, and driver. That’s it. Funny thing is it worked just fine! On any holes where they might have been too long for the irons, I had a slight breeze at my back, and I worked on really compressing the ball. For holes the irons were a little long, it was fun to hit less-than-full shots into the greens.I hit three or four different balls off every tee where driver was possible and I found the Q-Star a worthy opponent to the Snell MTB, the TP5X, and the AVX. It held its own off the tee, distance-wise, although it flew noticeably higher off all clubs. Our greens are so hard, NOTHING holds, so I wouldn’t be missing much by playing a ball like this. edingc
Great half bucket, chipping and pitching lunch session today. How in the world do you get to the point where you are controlling the hands but not being tense while doing so? Tension is the death of my swing, and it took me about 15 balls before I was able to just relax and let the swing happen. Tense 9 iron - 130ish yards, high 70s swing speed, thin contact, sawed off/out of balance finish, high weak fading ball flight. Tension-Free 9 Iron - 145 yards, mid 80s swing speed, flushed contact, balanced follow though, penetrating straight/slight draw ball flight. This is a cyclical struggle for me. Just can't convince my brain that I will get the club in the right place without putting a bunch of tension in my wrists, forearms and shoulders. russtopherb
2 days in a row hitting a small bucket with no major elbow pain. I'm a fan! Hit a small bucket bouncing around the bag, playing an imaginary 9 hole round. I struggle still with arm rotation on the backswing, for some reason my arms do it naturally when I take half swings but when I go any more than that they don't want to rotate and I end up with a flubbed shot. When I get it right, my goodness - what ballflight. When I don't, ballflight is so much lower and off to the right. Bumped into my brother's father-in-law at the range and had a nice chat about practice vs. playing and the focus differences. null
I started the George Gankas program this week. I have only gotten through the pre-shot module (posture, grip, ball position, alignment, etc) so I worked on implementing his setup ideas without worrying about changing anything else in my swing. Noticed a really big difference in the shot shape I was generating (much less right to left curve). Even hit a few baby fades with the driver. Very promising. Really looking forward to progressing through the program. russtopherb, Rickp, edingc and 2 others

edingc
Another good half bucket at lunch, split between 7/9/54 and driver. Really trying to focus on staying tension free, and that helped work some of the kinks out of my driver swing. I saw two driver swings hit 108 MPH on my Swing Caddie, which ties my personal best reading since I've gotten the SC200. I'm also beginning to write down what feels are working at the moment, as this is the best I've swung my irons all year. The inevitable end of the season is coming soon, so I want something to reference for when I only get to hit balls off mats once every other week or so through the winter. I bought Monte Scheinblum's "Efficient Swing" series a few weeks ago when he was running a special for $37. He's not in vogue like GG is, but I find his teachings really resonate well with me. I had purchased his "Drive for Dough" series a while back as well, but this new purchase is really focused on building a swing from the ground up. For me, I focus on the takeaway, pressure shift and backswing and then can just let my body do the rest. As I said, I'm hitting my irons better than I have all year, so it must be working. cksurfdude, Kenny B, PMookie and 2 others 4 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. edingc
Rough day at the range today. Hadn't hit a golf ball since last week (Wednesday, I think?) due to all of the rain we've had. I've been focusing on making a better hip turn with a lot of mirror swings, and for some reason I think I just psyched myself out before getting to the range. Hit a bunch of stone cold shanks with my wedge. Only brought the 7 iron which was awful. Ironically, driver contact, flight and direction were good (result of better turn instead of sway, less head movement), but distance and clubhead speed were only OK (saw a max of 98 MPH, a full 10 MPH slower than last week's best). Long story short - I was anxious to try the new hip turn, shanked several wedges to destroy my confidence, and then had to spend 45 minutes after my half bucket doing takeaway drills because I started shanking chips and pitches in the short game area, too. Ouch. cksurfdude and sirchunksalot 1 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. CarlH
Stopped by the club, grabbed my LW and 4 balls and made my way over to the chipping area. Practiced varying between high shot and low shot to 2 different pins for about 1/2 hour. Didn't do it intentionally, but I had grabbed 4 balls from my used ball pocket in my bag and 2 of them were Taylor Made TP5X and the other 2 were Snell MTB-X. edingc
Another day, another bucket full 'o shanks. I'm not sure what's going on but I'm at a total loss. And very frustrated and angry, which I know isn't helping things at all. Literally, of the 30ish balls I split between my 54 and 7 iron, 90 percent barely got off the ground and dove hard right. I'm supposed to have an iron fitting tomorrow with the local Mizuno rep, but I'm contemplating cancelling. russtopherb
I hit a large bucket this morning, working on my wrist set and backswing. Looks like I was getting a bit lazy for a while, and my wrist set was more up than slightly back, which results in wipey fades. My irons were great, 5i off the tee was the most consistent long shot I had all morning. Driver & fairways... eh not so much. I even tried the hybrid which was blah as usual. Seriously thinking about going all irons for my next round just for the heck of it. I scored 110 my last 18, can't get any worse by dropping the woods... Spent 45 minutes on this today hitting half 54s and think I got it all squared away, finally. I had been working with a different swing thought relating to my hip rotation, and while I was getting better rotation of the hips, I was no longer hinging properly at the waist. Because of that, the shaft had no where to go but up and out, which led to Shanksville. Thanks to @THEZIPR23 for bringing some levity to the situation with the Tin Cup reference. I did end up cancelling my Mizuno fitting today, which is a bummer, but I was just putting way too much stress on myself thinking about it. There will always be another time - the weather doesn't look like it's going to cooperate this afternoon anyway. One drill that really helped me today was this one from Monte: Sometimes we just have to take a step back and get out of our own way. I have suffered from shankitis pretty much my whole golfing life. I'll never forget my first set of irons I ever got fit for. Titleist 962 DCI's. It was a static fitting, not really a fitting but that's what they called it then. + 1 1/2" and 2* upright. Got my hands on them and took a large bucket of balls to the range. Shanked 100 of them in a row. Got another bucket and shanked another 100 in a row. Not kidding I didn't hit the face once. Obviously angry, depressed and a disaster I went home and came back the next day and everything was fine. . One of the things that I have found to cure them almost immediately now is to focus on my right knee staying inside the ball and more toward the target. Fixes it most of the time. edingc, russtopherb, cksurfdude and 1 other 4 Quote Stealth 2+ 9 (Diamana PD 60 S 45") Stealth 2+ 15 (Diamana PD 70 S 43") G425 19 (Raijin 2.0 85x) G425 22 (Raijin 2.0 85x) ZX7 5-9 (KBS C Taper S) Vokey SM9 45 10 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 49 08 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 55 08 M (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 59 04 T (KBS 610) Spider GT Splitback 34" ProV1 #23 Twitter @THEZIPR23 "One thing Golf has taught me, is that my muscles have no memory." revkev
Had a lesson - found a couple of alignment/set up faults to work on - so no changes with the swing but big changes if you know what I mean - doing the same thing with a different set up felt really weird. I’ve been having trouble getting the ball to go at the target except with driver - I hit a lot of balls at the target after the lesson today Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy cnosil, edingc, russtopherb and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 R flex - 44.25 Fairways: Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood Alta CB red 65 R flex Hybrid: Ping G410 26 degree Alta CB Red 70 R flex Irons: Ping G430 7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex Wedges: Ping 195 S54, E58 Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5” Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. DrMJG
Had some spare time today so I took time to really hit my 7i. I have begun to feel comfortable with the new grip. That took longer than I thought it would. I put the same grip on my 4h and felt it was perfect by the second swing. I changed to a Golf Pride with a bit less tapering because of a need for my right hand. Seemed to work well for the hybrid. Still feels a bit off on the 7i, so worked to get a better handle on it. (Pun intended, sorry.) Made the club feel heavier even though the weight of the club did not change. Now the older grip was showing some serious wear, so it might be simply getting back to "normal" After 25 whacks, I began getting the loft, distance and direction better in order. I seem o have a fuller control the club and it feels very comfortable. My arthritis is not even noticed. I was fitted for the grip, as well. Should be a solid fix after this weekend.
