Divothead
Just thought I would say Hi from the UK, I,ve been playing golf since last june My handicap is now 9.5 i`m in my mid forties. My lowest round is 68 yet thats not in a competition...I`m usually nervous in competitions which costs me shots The members of my club tell me the more I play in competitions the more i will just relax and get on with it, I`m hoping you can give me some advice on how to handle this. Divothead
Well I had a great weekend`s golf I played my first ever matchplay where I had to give my opponent 3 shots and I won 5 and 4. I also had another top 10 in the weenkend medal dropping my handicap to 9. So I`m feeling great getting to single figures in 10 months of golf!! My aim is to get down to 5 become a CAT 1 golfer and represent my golf club in future competitions. I`m going to leave a weekly post here each week and perhaps build a picture in words of my journey. I`m sure there will be lots of ups and downs! rouge subzero Fujikura Evo 2 shaft F2 3 wood Mitsubishi rayon 818.21 hybrid Even flow black Ben Hogan irons apex 4 shafts S18 wedges 50/54/58 Cameron and Crown M1

JohnSmalls
Impressive work! I will be happy making half of the progress you've made in 10 months. I've noticed from any competition that I have been in that confidence is contagious. Your mindset is key and the next shot is the one that counts. Know that you are the best golfer stepping out onto the course and no one can take that away from you. Welcome to the forum, glad you have joined us. Looking forward in following the journey! Divothead
Well todays golf was again a very positive experience for me I played in a two man stableford event The Leggate Putter at Burnley Golf Club the wind was so so strong. Me and my partner won our match.I was striking the ball so pure the strong winds barely moved it off line. We were one point up stood on the last tee..we all got good tee shots off! My partner shanked his aproach shot leaving me with some work to do. I said no worries it`s fine but really my arse was twitching a bit!!! My pitch in was to strong as I was feeling the nerves this left a birdie chance at 40 plus feet I left it 5 feet short but bang on line. The opposition got there four placing pressure on me to make the four to take the win. My partner asked me how I was seeing it and I replied hitting the back off the cup!! And thats what it did. Golf love it... Tueday medal next hoping to keep the flow going. rouge subzero Fujikura Evo 2 shaft F2 3 wood Mitsubishi rayon 818.21 hybrid Even flow black Ben Hogan irons apex 4 shafts S18 wedges 50/54/58 Cameron and Crown M1

Divothead
So I played in the May cup at my golf club yesterday and I tee`d off early it was raining and I had on the full Galvin green water goretex gear. I didn`t seem as nervous on the first tee as I have adopted a new strategy well I tried two new idea`s one clearly worked and the other didn`t I ripped it down the first in to the head wind and sat my nine iron approach shot 15 ft right of the pin 2 putted and par,Yes we are away!! I keep a relaxed atitude all the way round even when I hit my drive out of bounds on the par five. I came in with a 76 and had 41 putts (yes total melt down 3 putted 5 greens and that was one of my idea`s that clearly didn`t work) I finished joint 3rd on score but came 7th on a card play off,Still a top 10 and still brought me down to a H C of 8. The putting problem was that I made the 3 foot putts more than what they actually were..I normally just walk up and wack em in but this week i marked my ball and lined up took to much time over them setting in doubts...Next week this will not be happening...wack em in!! rouge subzero Fujikura Evo 2 shaft F2 3 wood Mitsubishi rayon 818.21 hybrid Even flow black Ben Hogan irons apex 4 shafts S18 wedges 50/54/58 Cameron and Crown M1
Divothead
I Have been working that hard on my game over the last 6 weeks I have not had time post on my progession. So where do I begin lets start with the work I have been doing to help me reach my goal of becoming a CAT 1 golfer. I have been playing nine holes golf most week days and then later in the evenings working tirelessly on my short game/putting My putting has improved quite alot and has made quite a difference to my scoring. Also my chipping and pitching has moved up a level and I seem to be building confidence in this area knowing that I can achieve what I set out to do. My 50 degree Callaway Mack daddy forged wedge has been instrumental round the greens producing the goods time and time again..such a confidence inspiring club. I have dropped the three putting to a minimum now and I`m building momentum in this area also My stats putting have dropped to 1.9 putts per round (Watch this space) I have played in the Saturday medals shooting 75 twice and another 76 Also I have played in the 36 hole club championships where the course is set up as hard as it can been played with the tee`s right at the backs and the pins in the toughest locations on the greens,This is all played on the same day. I shot 76 in the first round and 78 in the second round coming in level par nett and 19th overall position in the club in my first year. The presidents match play cup I have played in two rounds winning them both to progress to the quater finals. I have beaten some tough competition an ex club champion (2 HC) and also another highly skilled player (4 HC). The highlight of the month was being asked to Caddie in the British Open qualifing rounds for a local Proffesional. What a inspirational day that was, The weather was glorious (thats a rarity in the North England) and we almost qualified to the regional qualifing round we were 2 shots over!!. Another Highlight was being selected to be a Golfspy tester for the Bettinardi queen B9 putter. My handicap has dropped from 8 to 6.7 in the last 6 weeks .....Will I reach my goal of 5 for this season the clock is ticking!!! rouge subzero Fujikura Evo 2 shaft F2 3 wood Mitsubishi rayon 818.21 hybrid Even flow black Ben Hogan irons apex 4 shafts S18 wedges 50/54/58 Cameron and Crown M1
