Rickp
I don't have a problem with the 16th hole fans. I don't care for the “noise†during the swing (backswing) and putting. It's add a fun time for fans in an otherwise pedestrian hole. I'm not sure how the Highway Patrol spend all the DUI fines! Rickp
For those that have never attended the WMPO and think the party atmosphere begins and ends at the 16th; you couldn't be more wrong. On the walk in from the parking areas, I witnessed throngs of ASU kids passing around handles of everclear and stumbling through the front gate, every time I made the trip. These people are not at all typical golf fans; the fellas put on their freshest pastels and the girls dress to the nines. Then they all get increasingly inebriated and proceed to talk so much crap about each other that by the end the week I'm feeling genuinely worried about the future of our country. When the marshals raise the “quiet please†signs, the ingrates consider that their cue to get loud and personally abusive toward whom ever happens to be making a swing (on every single hole). The behavior from a sizable cross-section of fans in attendance is borderline deplorable and I can't really see myself ever attending again. To each their own but for me personally, the event is a total sh!t show. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I saw similar situations, maybe not as bad @ TPC Hartford many years ago when when the Insurance Companies handed out tickets like M&M's. Now that the tix aren't as plentiful it seemed to me the last time I went it was tamer. Edit; nice touch by Jon Rahm with the Chris Tillman shirt on 16 Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list

MGoBlue100
That's a ton of work so why don't they just leave it up year round? If I was a tourist playing that course it would be so cool to walk in and play that hole with the stadium up. I could have my wife sitting in the stands and have her toss me a beer after my hole-in-oneMy guess is they reconfigure the setup slightly every year. Corporate hospitality drives that hole, not drunken Minnesota Viking fans or AZ St coeds. A little bigger, a little better, a little nicer every year for the BIG spenders! HeathS16
When it first started it was just a bunch of folks having a great time and everyone enjoyed it because it was different. Chal
I was at the tournament last year and this hole is so much fun. The rest of the course was awesome as well. Most fun I have ever had at a tournament and I have been to The Masters, US Open, Muirfield, Arnie's event. I think more tournaments should lighten up and try to make the events more fun. Bags
So I'd really like everyone's opinion on this hole. When I first started watching golf I really enjoyed this hole. I thought it was awesome how everyone was trashed yelling booing cheering whatever. The awesome videos of the drunk fans were all good and great. Now I must admit I think it's a little too much. I don't mind the cheering/booing but have some respect for these guys Jobs. Are people that dumb to yell in a backswing?its the only tournament of the year and 1 hole - agree backswing yell no good but guys prob know it might be coming understanding the atmosphere Bags

TheWahoo
It seems that the attendance just over the weekend at the Waste Management tournament is greater than that of the entire week for many if not most of the other tournaments. As a result, the Thunderbird Charities raise more in a single tournament than others do over multiple years. I heard a commentator state that the construction of the stands on the 16th begins in October and takes about two months to take down after the tournament. It was also noted that what is not maintained for the next year tournament is recycled.
